#Fps feeling.. not like what it's supposed to?

I've kind of just been putting this aside till now, it's honestly sort of weird, i'm at 70-90 fps with DLSS 3 quality very high settings on cyberpunk 2077. Although, the fps feels sort of choppy. Now this can fall into a few things

  1. Monitor (it's 1080p 60hz) but it feels smooth sometimes, sometimes it doesn't like right now
  2. Dlss has input lag

1080p60 monitor

Do not use frame generation on 60 Hz displays, and especially with no vsync

#

Frame generation really wants a 100Hz+ display with VRR to shine as then frames can be delivered whenever wherever

#

Turn off frame generation and adjust your game settings so that you are able to consistently get above 60 FPS.

#

Then, turn on vertical sync because otherwise it'll tear like no tomorrow.

#

If you want to avoid these workarounds, you will need to purchase a new monitor

lilac compass
#

You know everyone says V-Sync is one of the worst things to happen to humanity

#

What does vsync even do?

wise basalt

#

I have a few more questions if you mind

#

Now that vsync is enabled, do I enable reflex and dlss? if i turn on reflex, do i make it on or on + boost.

wise basalt
# lilac compass What does vsync even do?

On non-VRR (FreeSync/GSync) displays: hold the frame until the monitor is ready to display

On VRR displays, this wait is much shorter and if paced correctly, won't lag

#

it just goes up more than i want it to at times

#

like my gpu is sitting above 95% most of the time

#

but my cpu sometimes goes above 70%

wise basalt
lilac compass
wise basalt
#

But most of these stuff won't be relevant while you have a 60Hz display

wise basalt
lilac compass
#

also, since i turned on vsync, i can't help but feel like it has this latency

#

it's not major

#

but i noticed it quickly

wise basalt
#

Hence the "get a new monitor"

lilac compass
#

it's coming soon 😂

#

i do need an upgrade anywhom

#

alright i think that's about it

#

thanks a bunch

swift bear
# lilac compass but my cpu sometimes goes above 70%

I turned off boost mode. Something is causing my CPU to boost from 3.9GHz all the way to 4.7GHz, and it was not made for that. Made a lot of heat and actually made it perform much worse, might want to turn it off.

wise basalt
#

This user is likely using a desktop. In which case you'd be deleting performance for no good reason.

#

Also, assuming the cooling system was working correctly and the CPU doesn't end up in a situation where it cannot maintain PL1/TDP, boost should not cause performance loss

lilac compass
#

it runs perfectly with cyberpunk I love it

#

ghost though, when i turn it on it goes to 30 fps

lilac compass
#

ghost of tsushima

#

my fps goes down to thirty

#

but I just used the nvidia control pnale

#

panel

#

To inject vsync in

#

Like I turn vsync on in ghost of tsushima, My fps is capped at 30

#

But i just used nvidia control panel

This may shock you, but modern CPUs don't throw away their entire turbo

#

They shed in 50/100MHz steps

#

like GPUs and 15MHz steps

#

You do realize that you are describing expected behaviour?

#

Go ahead and read a CPU review in the last 3 years

#

You did not even mention your CPU model

#

So what?

#

Because I literally just described modern CPU behaviour

lilac compass
#

Hey, uhh, I noticed in certain times, the 99% fps goes down, to nearly 40, while my fps is staying at sixty. Now if this is a monitor/vsync related issue, it's fine. But I fear that perhaps my gpu is weak?

#

In cyberpunk 2077

#

Also, if i did get let's say a 144hz monitor, and I get 90 fps on dlss, would it actually feel like 90 solid frames per second? @wise basalt

wise basalt
wise basalt
#

It's usually still indicative of relative smoothness, though

#

Usually microstutters appear when this gets too low

#

Ideally I'd see about 50FPS 99ths when you are at 60 delivered

#

Because game engines are inherently variable time, some jitter is expected

lilac compass
wise basalt
# lilac compass Input lag of 44 fps?

Pretty much, yeah, if you achieved 90 with frame generation, everything is delayed by 1 extra frame per real frame. Since there are 45 real frames...

lilac compass
#

No frame gen

wise basalt
#

You'll be in a really good place lag wise

lilac compass
wise basalt
wise basalt
lilac compass
wise basalt
#

pretty much, yeah, if you want to get tear free high refresh or intend to use frame gen

lilac compass
wise basalt
lilac compass
#

So it’s even better?

#

Perfect

wise basalt
#

With this, frame rates no longer need to be an integer division of the screen max refresh rate, and games can pace much better to reduce lag

lilac compass
#

Nothing I hate more than choppiness

wise basalt
lilac compass
wise basalt
#

e.g. if you dip below 60 FPS on a 60 Hz monitor, some frames will show up at 60 FPS equal, and some 30 FPS, for example

#

This can show up as uneven pacing

lilac compass
wise basalt
wise basalt
#

but if you want ghost free monitor

#

normally go oled, but if can't stretch that far or you use the computer for non-gaming/videos a lot, ips (samsung va is also good on their high end stuff)

lilac compass
wise basalt
#

99th is usually more dependent on how quickly the cpu does things

lilac compass
#

Yeah it’s just my 99% fps drops sometimes in crowded areas, and the actual fps is obsolete

wise basalt
lilac compass
#

I don’t think it’s ram

#

It’s most likely cpu

#

I might have a solution

#

One second

lilac compass
# lilac compass One second

Yeah it got slightly better, but, in your opinion do you think DLSS looks better than the "native" image in cp 2077?

#

i put quotation marks because the native image in this game is TAA

#

if you turn off all upscaling it uses TAA

#

So it comes down to

#

Is dlss 3.5 better than TAA

#

@wise basalt

wise basalt
#

so not really a valid comparison

#

instead, compare DLSS Ray Reconstruction On vs Off (off meaning using generic denoising)

#

This will depend on game
