Hey there!

Earlier this week, my laptop's (MSi ge66 Raider Windows 10) GPU (3060 Laptop GPU) stopped working!
By stopped working I mean that in device manager I got an error code 43 that windows shut off the GPU.
So instinctivley, I tried updating the driver, that didn't solve the issue. So I decided to uninstall the gpu. But before that, I made sure to create a restore point just in case. After the restart, the GPU wouldn't should up at all so I reverted back to the restore point and well, got the same error as before. One thing I realized as well was that the usual Nvidia softwares (Gefore Experience, Nvidia App, and Nvidia Control Panel) wouldn't open anymore. The container wouldn't launch them either. So I uninstalled all of them, and reinstalled them but to no avail, they still wouldn't open except geforce experience. So I tried for a second time yesterday to uninstall the GPU and this time it was a success. No more error code 43, however, the GPU still wasn't working. It wasn't being used, nor could I open the Nvidia Softwares. Im starting to get a little worried. Currently, without my main RTX Gpu, Im running the CPU's GPI, it's holding up alright but I would really love my GPU back.
Any suggestions on what I should do? I highly doubt it's structural damage as I haven't opened the laptop and the warranty sticker is still there. Cheers!

Addition - My CPU is an Intel i7 10870H, Laptop is about 2 1/2 years old!

Code 43 is usually a hardware issue

Get it checked out?

#

Like even my nvidia softwares dont open, would that also be a hardware issue?

Contact MSI about fixing your laptop under warranty, assuming you're still in the timeframe (IIRC 2 years is minimum in the US)

Nvidia software can't be installed without an Nvidia GPU, so once it's installed, it's going to always assume that a supported GPU is present and working correctly. I don't know why exactly it doesn't even start up without one (as the app is not open source and, as mentioned in #rules, we're not Nvidia)
One thing you can try is running nvidia-smi in a command prompt. Assuming your GPU is still responding to commands from the driver, you should get some statistics (utilization, used VRAM, etc.)

Am I cooked?

Like ive tried even DDU, no avail. Restore points, no avail. Uninstall, reinstall. No avail.

No NVIDIA software opens except geforce experience, but it won't let me go to tabs. And it just tells me I got a driver update over and over. ATP I could install it like 10 times back to back its crazy

Oh and, yeah I can't get my monitor to connect either.

I'd consider it very likely that this is a hardware issue then

I took it to my schools IT Director, and he said most probably overheated because of dust accumulation. I wouldn't be surprised. Im posted in a relativley dusty country and haven't had the chance to clean the fans.

Aight gang, there's no way to diagnose it for sure right with like a software or sumn

Code 43 in Device Manager + nvidia-smi not working + DDU not doing anything is as certain as you can be

Could try running a Linux Live ISO, but Linux doesn't play well with Nvidia Optimus in the first place, so that might also not work if the GPU would be functioning correctly

No problem

If you want to try the Linux ISO:

  1. Have an 8GB flash drive ready, it will be completely erased during this process
  2. Download Etcher (https://etcher.balena.io/) and EndeavourOS (https://endeavouros.com/#Download, select a mirror closest to you)
  3. Flash the ISO onto the flash drive with Etcher
  4. Hold Shift while clicking "Restart" in the Power Options dialog in the start menu and boot from the USB (I forget the exact option labels, but I'm sure you can find them)
  5. Select the Nvidia option in the boot menu (should be the 2nd one)
  6. Hope that it boots
