Hello there! I have a relatively new PC (built it 2 months ago) and I realized quite a problem now. Whenever I start a game using DX12 (tested in The Finals and Fortnite), I get a crash before the game finishes starting, I also get a BSOD in half the cases with mostly the error CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT, however I also got one with MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION, which is very frustrating. I tested on drivers GRD 551.86, 552.12 and 552.22. I ran multiple sfc /scannow checks and also made sure no game files are corrupted. Here is my build:
Intel Core i9-14900KF
MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
Gigabyte Z790 AORUS MASTER X
64 GB RAM DDR5-5600 CL36
2x 990 PRO 2TB SSD (however one is still empty)
Nothing is overclocked.

When I don't get a BSOD, I also get the error that I'm out of video memory.
Thanks in advance for help.

That's a great system you got there

Our first stop for any kind of driver issues is AutoDDU

I've ran AutoDDU now, unfortunately, the problem's are still there

I tried a CMOS reset, the only thing I changed afterwards was enabling XMP, but it didn't help unfortunately

including spurious GPU-related errors

  • Update your motherboard's BIOS to the latest. Because you have a Gigabyte motherboard, pay attention to the Revision number! Check your motherboard's PCB or packaging for more info.
  • Enable the Intel Baseline Profile to see if it improves.
  • If it still persists, also attempt to DDU or over-install Windows in case of driver or Windows corruption. (by over-install, you use a Windows setup USB, but instead of booting from it, you run the setup inside Windows. It should upgrade your Windows while keeping apps and files.)
