I am getting terrible performance all of a sudden, specifically in Fortnite. I know the game is an unoptomized POS but none of my friends are experiencing this. I used to get 200+ fps consistently, now I can barely maintain 60 or lower. I also get random drops down to 20 fps or lower. It happens more often when I am being shot at and/or meeting other players, meaning I lose a lot more than usual.
I have also tested this in GTAV, which I previously had 60 fps (which the game is locked to)- now down to 30-45 fps.
I have also seen the behavior in Space Engineers, which is a very demanding (re: unoptimized) game. I used to get 90 fps or more and now I can't even move the frames are so bad.
My system specs:
RTX 4070 12gb
Ryzen 5 3600
32 gb ram
ASRock B550 Phantom gaming 4 motherboard (with the recommended bios upgrade).
I mostly play games on my TV which is 60hz at 3840x2160 resolution, though the issue also occurs on my monitor (1080p 144hz)
All games are installed on one of two SSDs and Windows 10 is installed on a hard drive.
Fixes I have tried:
(specifically fortnite)
-Tried all graphical presets, including low, performance mode, and the geforce experience recommended settings
-Predownloading the streamed assets (30 GB of stuff that the game doesn't have to download on the fly anymore)
-Clearing the web cache as directed by Fortnite support (dunno what this did exactly but it didn't help)
(overall system)
-Updating to latest NVidia drivers
-Rolling back to previous Nvidia drivers
-Running DDU in safe mode then reinstalling latest driver (this helped at first but the issue soon returned)
-Dusting out my PC and verifying that nothing was unplugged or loose
-Checking my temps using open hardware monitor which looked ok but I have no idea what they are supposed to be
Any help is appreciated!
