i got myself a brand new gaming laptop with Geforce rtx 4070 mobile gpu after setting everything up and updating the graphics driver i found myself testing different settings for the display, i have a 240hz refresh rate display that seems to run as normal on integrated graphics but the integrated graphics adds delay and some other issues but whenever i switch the display driver to the nvidia gpu only option suddenly it shows up i have 2 monitors connected one for the integrated graphics and one for the gpu and it locks to 60 hz unable to change settings from windows or the nvidia control pannel. there is the option to pick 240 hz but it just reverts back to 60hz unless i select my integrated graphics to drive the display again. only then it lets me pick back 240 hz and it works normally.
i want to drive my display with the gpu since it has less latency and it runs better how can i solve this?

Nvm

#

The options are there, but it's still less than expected

i mean it works alright sometimes but sometimes it's finicky xd

What cables were you using?

I'm on laptop

#

its my display

#

i don't have hdmi or display port connected or anything

Can you show the contents of Device Manager > Display adapters?

sharp mortar
#

it went bonkers again

#

opening the nvidia control panel lets me pick refresh rate for the monitor when set to run the display on the gpu but when picked just goes back down to 60

#

if i want to temporarily fix it id have to pick optimus (integrated graphics) and select 240 from the windows settings display settings and then set display to run on gpu again until it decides to nerf back down to 60 again

#

its very interesting and i have no idea what could be causing this

#

i just got the laptop and installed the latest drivers suggested for my gpu on nvidias drivers site and restarted pc havent done anything else

Yeah, this definitely is looking nonsensical. Contact the laptop maker on the problem.

#

The iGPU seems to be staying on and intefering

sharp mortar
#

perhaps if i disable the integrated graphics from device manager

#

could that backfire somehow xd

#

okay it seems to be alright for now

#

made my screen 200% scale but after changing back to 150 its aight

#

will keep track of how things go if i run into issues again which i doubt i should i suppose ill update the topic xd

#

system feels much better overall it seems like the igpu was indeed interfering with the dedicated gpu

sharp mortar
#

the problem with the refresh rate going down to 60 persists i have no idea why it still decides to turn it down

#

now instead of having integrated display and gpu display it has 2 gpu displays somehow LOL

#

what even is this xd

#

Disabling devices in Device Manager is more like "pretend it doesn't exist" than actually turning it off when it comes to GPUs

#

It WILL backfire and slow everything down

hard patio
#

Well, more like, it didn't explain how

#

On desktops most of the stuff is already taken care of for you, and leaving the iGPU on won't matter

#

On laptops though? If there's no MUX switch, doing that will usually cause problems instead

#

Your laptop does have one, but right now it isn't working 100% correctly

#

This likely will do a severe number to your battery life

#

For now, if this workaround works, feel free to use it, but you REALLY should contact the laptop maker about this oddity

sharp mortar
#

alright i figured the issue out
i booted into my bios and apperantly display mode was set to automatic and i set it to nvidia gpu only which seems to have solved the issues

hard patio
#

There you go. Sometimes, some laptops are just funny and you actually have to go to the BIOS. (Make a bug report to the laptop maker, this shouldn't be necessary...)

i wonder what makes peeps that make laptops with rtx 40 series set the default device for use to be the integrated graphics

#

thanks for hitting me up^^
