I recently got an NVIDIA graphics card but every time I play a video there's an utterly insane blooming effect and it hurts my eyes. How do I get rid of it?

Do you have a HDR monitor?

Yes

Is your YouTube screenshot taken in HDR mode?

idle finch
#

Yes

Is RTX Video Super Resolution and HDR turned on?

idle finch
#

How do I check?

silver sandal
#

NVIDIA Control Panel > Adjust video image settings

#

example

They were both turned off. Turning them both on did nothing.
Below the HDR option it says "Status: Inactive"

silver sandal
#

OK. Turn them back off. The cause is something else.

Anyway, next up is to try HDR calibration

#

follow the steps, maybe close all browsers and restart your PC, and recheck the same video.

#

Remember that you'll have to use your eyes to determine if things look correct or blown.

#

Screenshots don't really work properly sometimes.

#

OK I'll give it some time to see if the changes revert, cuz that's happened sometimes. If it ever does revert I'll let you know.

#

Looks like it worked! Thank you so much!

#

boom ❤️

#

have fun with your monitor's HDR capabilities!

#

It reverted just now, and neither using the HDR calibration tool nor restarting the computer worked this time.

#

Did you recently clean install graphics drivers?

#

There was a driver update

idle finch
#

How do I do that in GeForce experience?

silver sandal
#

No, what I meant is that if you updated anything in the meantime

#

If you are able to pinpoint why...

You may want to recalibrate the monitor.

#

Yeah

idle finch
#

Tried that three times. Didn't work at all.

#

Also tried restarting my computer. That didn't work either.

#

My HDR monitor has AMD FreeSync if that helps

Try using DDU to wipe all traces of graphics drivers and monitors

#

After that, reinstall the drivers.

idle finch
#

DDU?

OK I went through that whole process and it appears to have worked for now. I'll let you know if I have any more problems.

idle finch
#

OK I AM WAY BEYOND FED UP WITH THIS

#

NOTHING I'VE TRIED HAS WORKED

#

DDU. CALIBRATION. RESTARTING.

#

NOTHING HAS WORKED!!!!

#

sigh

#

Is there anything else you can suggest @silver sandal?

idle finch
#

Nvm I figured it out

Sorry for yelling
