I am trying to run the Speed Way benchmark on my recently built PC with 3DMark. Unfortunately, about a minute after I run the benchmark, it says that an error occurred with the following details.

File: F:\futuremark\jenkins\workspace\Tango_release-1.0.8@2\engine\external\3dmark-sdk\sdk\dm_gfx_project\dm_gfx\dxgi\swap_chain.cpp Line: 240 Function: IDXGISwapChain::Present Expression: result Error: The application made a call that is invalid. Either the parameters of the call or the state of some object was incorrect.
Enable the D3D debug layer in order to see details via debug messages. (0x887a0001)

I contacted 3DMark support and they said that my GPU driver is crashing. So, I did a clean install of the latest driver, but still keep getting the same error. I am not sure what else to try, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

3DMark Speed Way

Does Port Royal and Solar Bay, other RT benchmarks, crash in the same way?

Also check Time Spy and Fire Strike, DX12 non-RT, and DX11 benchmarks.

#

As you mentioned Speed Way, you probably own it

Speed Way gives the error in the "Collecting System Information" phase

deft zodiac
#

So what you are saying is that the benchmarks didn't actually run and gets stuck in the collecting system info phase?

#

Can you try uninstalling SystemInfo and reinstalling that first?

I have not played any games on this pc that use ray tracing yet

deft zodiac
#

If it does, then retest with no RT

thorn flicker
#

Okay

Just a minute ago, I ran Speed Way in the interactive mode and it worked fine. Does that tell you anything?

thorn flicker
#

The audio, that is

deft zodiac
#

What happens when you press CTRL-ALT-DEL?

thorn flicker
deft zodiac
#

Yeah, when it crashes

#

Or, Task Manager (turn on always on top first beforehand) - can be opened with CTRL-SHIFT-ESC

thorn flicker
#

Lemme check

deft zodiac
#

To figure if it's the entire PC or just 3DMark

thorn flicker
#

Yh, it appears that just a few things freeze with port royal. My mouse and every currently open window. Once I stopped it via task manager, everything went back to normal

deft zodiac
#

So it also freezes the rendering of some other apps, but not all of them? Curious

#

And the entire system is still up

thorn flicker
#

yep

deft zodiac
#

How did you perform the clean install of driver?

thorn flicker
#

First I just did it in Geforce Experience, but when that didn't work, I used DDU

#

I guess I can always try uninstalling 3DMark and reinstalling it, to see if it's an issue with that

thorn flicker
deft zodiac
#

No harm (try this: uninstall 3DMark, and uninstall Systeminfo from Windows Settings, restart the PC, then install and run 3DMark)

thorn flicker
#

okay

thorn flicker
#

That didn't help 😭
I have been talking to 3DMark's customer support and they seem to think that it is an issue with the hardware of the graphics card. I really hope this is not the case.

#

I will keep you updated

#

Strangest thing: everything works fine if I make it not be full screen

#

Do you think it has to do with me having an ultrawide monitor?

deft zodiac
#

Do you have other video cards to test with?

Common signs when PSU is failing:

Won't power on.
Bluescreens or completely freezes seemingly randomly, slanted more towards gaming or rendering.
Resets or powers off when launching a game, or during gaming.
Boot loops.
No Post/Video
Failing fan sounds from PSU.
Smoke.
Tripping the power surge when turning it on.

#

Also

Artifacts: If you see strange visual glitches or distortions in your games, it could be a sign that your PSU isn't providing enough clean power to your graphics card.
Driver crashes: Frequent driver crashes during gaming can sometimes be caused by power delivery issues.

#

Try these in bios

Okay thanks.

Fixed it! I use Windows Onscreen Keyboard for some things, which is apparently considered an overlay, even though it doesn't seem like it at all. Closing it made everything work like a charm.
