#FPS Capping

My FPS ranges from 500-750 with a 4070 and a i9-13900kf. I see people with a 3060 and a i7-12700 getting over 1000 fps. When I change my hertz from 240 hz to 60 hz, it still ranges from 500-750.

Make sure the settings are identical (without knowing the game name I am assuming both are minimum settings and 720p or less as it looks esporty)

Task Manager > Performance > Memory. What's the clock speed and amount of RAM slots in use here?

wheat ore

Interesting...

#

Game running?

turbid merlin
#

Yes

#

Even when I change my hertz of my monitor from 240 to 60 the fps is still the same. I even lowered the 3d res in Fortnite and it is still the same fps. I see pcs with a 3060 and a i7 running 1000+ fps and I am getting only 300-400 fps with a 4070 and an i9.

@wheat ore

#

ping me back so ik

wheat ore
#

Also keep in mind that in 2023, the engine of the game got a massive overhaul. The game is more difficult to run as the same setting labels now mean a completely different thing. Check the video dates.

@wheat ore

#

It's as if my FPS is capped

#

Right now I have it capped at 360 but when I am talking about when I put it as unlimited.

#

I changed it to 50% 3d res.

#

Still same

#

But this is what interests me the most.

#

Same FPS even when I change my hertz.

#

@wheat ore any fixes?

wheat ore
turbid merlin
#

Oh ok

#

But still. Idk how a 3060 is beating a 4070

#

Even when I change my settings to Epic instead of Low the fps is the same.

wheat ore
#

Every single screenshot is screaming "single core CPU bottleneck."

turbid merlin
#

What is that?

wheat ore
#

13-14% CPU

turbid merlin
#

This is a prebuilt from IBuy-Power I got it as a Christmas present.

wheat ore
#

This may sound very low, but the i7 you have have a lot a cores

turbid merlin
#

If you want I can send you the name of the prebuilt.

wheat ore
#

I think I'm gonna have you download hwinfo64 and check the game again with it open in sensors only mode

turbid merlin
#

iBUYPOWER - SlateMesh Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i9-13900KF - 32GB DDR5 RGB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 12GB - 1TB NVMe SSD - Black

wheat ore
#

Post the numbers shown there

turbid merlin
#

Where to download?

wheat ore
turbid merlin
#

What does it do?

wheat ore
#

Once you're in game, post the entire thing here

#

Get usage metrics, temperatures, clock speed, and more of your hardware

turbid merlin
#

That?

#

I don't know what these numbers mean.

wheat ore
#

Open the sensors

#

This is the info screen

turbid merlin
#

which ones do I ss

#

There is a lot

wheat ore
turbid merlin
wheat ore
#

Max CPU/Thread Usage is very high though

turbid merlin
#

there

#

That's everything

wheat ore
#

There doesn't seem to be any trouble here, just that the CPU is somehow running out of time on a per-core basis

turbid merlin
#

Can you simplify?

wheat ore
#

Can you screenshot your Manage 3D Settings page in NVIDIA Control Panel?

wheat ore
turbid merlin
#

Is that good?

wheat ore
#

Now do the same for Fortnite's own profile

turbid merlin
#

Wdym?

#

I go to program settings?

wheat ore
#

Program Settings

#

Yep

#

If game does not show up, click Add. It's probably there.

turbid merlin
wheat ore
#

Can you recheck the performance after you hit Restore here?

turbid merlin
#

Huh?

#

Wdym?

#

Where is restore here

#

I'm sorry I am new to PC gaming.

wheat ore
turbid merlin
#

Restore?

wheat ore
#

In the future, there's usually no need to touch any of the settings you touched here

#

And yeah. The one with the NVIDIA logo

turbid merlin
#

I click yes?

#

U there?

#

@wheat ore

wheat ore
#

Yeah

#

Also, honestly, if you're already hitting 700 fps anyway consider getting out of Performance mode and use DX12

#

Reward your eyes

#

Frame rate is well in excess of your display refresh rate

turbid merlin
#

Ik but I get more FPS in performance mode

wheat ore
#

Remember that 240fps is 4.16ms, and 700fps is 1.46ms...

This looks like a more than half, but...

In absolute terms, it's less than 3ms

Compare to a normal 60fps frame's 16.67ms

#

You're already in real tight

turbid merlin
#

wdym

wheat ore
#

You're already well below the frame times of a normal 60fps setup

turbid merlin
#

Ik but im trying to get the most FPS out of what I paid for

wheat ore
#

Hmm. Anyway, see if the performance improves.

Do you have other background stuff going? This includes anything involving live wallpapers!

turbid merlin
#

Nope I close out everything using Task Manager. Only a plain black background.

#

I turned off all startup apps

wheat ore
#

msconfig

#

?

turbid merlin
#

huh

#

what iss that

wheat ore
#

OK, then nothing wrong there either if you don't know what that is

#

(Just checking if you disabled anything hardware related)

turbid merlin
#

How do I check

#

Because I followed a tutorial on YouTube on how to get more fps

#

and I followed everything

#

So IDK if I did

wheat ore
#

There isn't a need since you didn't know of its existence, but usually in the services tab of msconfig you can disable services. Want to keep all Microsoft and hardware driver services on no matter what.

wheat ore
#

Don't follow optimization video guides you find in youtube

turbid merlin
#

Sorry

wheat ore
#

Undo everything you did following them

turbid merlin
#

What do I do though

#

To check

wheat ore
turbid merlin
#

Idk the videos

#

I followed a lot

wheat ore
#

If it used a third party debloater tool or anti Windows spying thing, assume your OS is hosed and consider reinstalling Windows.

turbid merlin
wheat ore
#

OK. Undo them

turbid merlin
#

The videos told me to go into the windows setting and turn off startup apps, put your power management mode on high performance, and then I followed all the NVIDIA 3d settings they had on

#

Shall I just restart my pc?

#

Reset I mean

wheat ore
#

No need, just undo everything it told you to do EXCEPT for the startup apps part

turbid merlin
#

Ok

#

I watched plenty of videos what if I don't know where to find them kekw

#

nah my fps is def capped or something

#

look

#

I have the 3d res at one

#

It should be running atleast 2k fps

#

same fps when i turn it on 100

#

bruh

wheat ore
#

Single core CPU bottleneck...

turbid merlin
#

explain

wheat ore
#

Game can't run faster than what the maximum a core can run (any additional cores don't matter at all when this happens)

#

Textbook case.

turbid merlin
#

Then how does my friend with a 3060 ti and an i7 get 1200 fps 😦

wheat ore
#

Tell your friend to post a current screenshot

#

And check if the i7 or the RAM is overclocked

#

Your system isn't overclocked since it's a prebuild

#

At these potato settings the GPU pretty much becomes irrelevant

turbid merlin
#

He is on vacation for winter break. He has a 1k Prebuilt from Bestbuy though.

wheat ore
#

Since you have worse than Switch graphics

turbid merlin
#

These graphics are what all the pros use to get the most amount of FPS.

wheat ore
turbid merlin
#

It is preformance mode though 😦

#

So do you know any fixes

wheat ore
#

Anyway, honestly, just enjoy the game

#

As far as the game and hardware is concerned, there isn't really a problem when you're already hitting 700 fps

#

Consider increasing graphics quality

turbid merlin
#

I want to hit over 1k though

royal depot

#

If you are playing on potato settings then are you really “getting what you paid for.” Turn some settings up and enjoy the game

#

I’ll see if I can find settings that reach 1k tho

potent root
#

Are you using HDMI or DP Port

turbid merlin
potent root
#

If you are using HDMI you won't be able get that high amount fps you want and using the right monitor to get a higher fps.

I'm happy getting 200 with my 2060
