#bios sees 16gb of ram 3200 mhz but windows can only use 8 while it says that it sees all 16

This may sound funny, but does this happen with XMP off?
havent tested didnt think it would be the issue
I'm going to guess this probably works fine in another computer too
friend doesnt have one to test the ram out
unfortunately
Test single sticks
Also some unoptimal configs
E.g. both sticks on same channel
Inb4 dead mem channel
thats not the issue, ram is on 2/4
What? I mean, put it on 1/2 or 3/4
Basically intentionally breaking dual channel
If 1/2 shows the entire 16GB, then try 3/4
If it's still the same, then now try any of the following:
- 1/3
- 2/3
- 1/4
nonstandard placements that would still result in dual channel
gimme a sec
poor mf changed his mobo from a dead one and he may have got another bad one
Yeah, I usually don't expect ram to just go "hasta la vista" so quickly
3/4?
Seems weird it's reserving a quarter of the RAM stick
Starting to look really sussy
By any chance, does the computer use AMD integrated graphics?
i assumed dead stick/mobo ram channel
no hes got a ryzen 5 2600x in a b550 mobo
Then we can rule out reserved-for-VRAM memory
yup
Definitely very odd
1/4 still 12.2
Hmm
With the stick at 1 in, remove the other stick. What's the RAM seen, 4.2GB or 8GB?
we're testing out the other configs first
(I will be driving very soon and may be unrespnsive)
and then doing one by one
dw about it
IIRC the last untested config is 2/3
2/4 to double check
