#Temperature issue

both the CPU and GPU are on the very slow side for today's games
if you normally play games unlocked or at 60 FPS vsync, try limiting the frame rate to 30 FPS. (This will make games less smooth, and may feel more sluggish, especially in games without NVIDIA Reflex.)
i want to play with at least 60 fps
What are you playing?
valorant, csgo, minecraft, gta, farcry etc
the game performance profiles for these games are too wide
valorant and csgo should run on potatoes, so disregarding them for now
minecraft is cpu bottlenecked, so also that
that leaves gta and far cry
they're on the heavier side
since you want both 60 FPS and less heat, there's not really much you can do
other than dropping settings and resolution
in gta i have 80 fps with freezes
and farcry i can reach a 100 fps
but i generally have 40 fps in fights
but idk why i have only 30 fps on csgo
and its really hard to play
its like valorant, i need to wait for 30 min to play without freezes
You shouldn't be freezing.
You may have problems elsewhere
i keep my drivers up to date, i dont install cheats or else, i dont have an antivirus, i clean up my pc every month and when i play i generally close all my programs except spotify. but i dont lose perfs with it so. and i have freezes only on valorant but i optimized it, im playing it for 2 years and i never got problems like that, in csgo too i was running it 200 fps in the past but now im only at 40. And i got on a french support and they said that it should be my temps soo
i changed the thermal paste and etc
but its the same
Download hwinfo and show me what it says for both the CPU clock speeds and temperatures.
can you give me the link
(Once installed, open in sensors-only mode)
are these numbers in the windows desktop or in game
your CPU usage is extremely high
the game was running
just i did an alt tab to screen
i unlocked my background fps
so it is running the same
in all likehood, you ran out of CPU. to verify, close the game and see if the numbers change while idle
there's only so much two Skylake cores at 3.1ghz can do
i dont understand
especially since you have a laptop dual-core CPU, there's basically not much CPU around
my cpu is a 4 core
and i know those
you have a dual core
and if this is idle
You probably have other problems
since you shouldnt be at 58% doing nothing
what else is open?
i have hwinfo running, im on a discord vc, and i have a music running on spotify
no, don't run anything else for now
okay
end your discord vc, stop spotify, and other background stuff
and see if your CPU idle goes to 5% or less
k
my cpu is at 3%-14% while there is nothing except the task manager
and this is hwinfo
OK. Now let it sit for 30 minutes and check the idle temps
Alright. In the meantime, now check game performance
Your CPU is now doing nothing in idle, so you should be able to check if the freeze's cause is because you have too many things going on, or if it's something else
yeah, from all it looks like it's not thermals
so the only remaining thing is if you're running out of CPU. Now that we got rid of background stuff, this would be the real test if the CPU is still enough or not
this is while playing mc
without anything else opened
and for the idle
do i open hwinfo ?
or just task manager
@paper lichen
looks normal so far. now play other games and see if the freezes happen
in valorant i have freezes
but i send it
idk if there was apps in the backs so im gonna send another
i lose the basic freezes
but im freezing when i use or see an ability
i think my cpu is struggling to load all the effects
are you there ?
CPU usage at 97%
yep
this laptop's basically done with valorant
cap the frame rate
i have a friend who have the same issue with a i5 4800k
(You probably should consider getting a new PC)
Aw. Since you can't just magic up additional hardware (since we already confirmed that you have no more idle background tasks stealing CPU, and your CPU isn't thermal throttling)
unfortunately, looks like the only thing you can do is to cap frame rates
and likely accept screen tearing
or input lag
i was getting imput lag but it was a ram issue
i dont have imput lag
just freezes
do you think that if i overclock i could play ?
unfortunately, the issue's root cause is not enough CPU
you physically can't
this is not a K processor
oh yeah my bad
so yeah, you'll have to both close as many things as possible before playing cpu intense games, and also limit the frame rate
vsync on, or manually set a fps cap to around 60
I'd prefer the latter with vsync off in an esports game
hmm, interesting...
am i gonna lose the freezes when i cap to 60 ?
can you tell me what drive is valorant installed on, and what kind of drive is it
on my local
not good enough
and its a crucial sata ssd
task amnager > disk 0
ah
still not good enough
need full model name
you can see this in Task Manager > Performance> Disk 0
hmm, there shouldn't be any problems with this as it's not qlc junk
so yeah, I'm seriously thinking that you just don't have enough CPU
use the lowest possible settings and cap the frame rate and see if the freezing lets up
since you're basically 100% cpu
This is VERY BAD
since it means you ran out of resources while playing a game
someone said me that it was good because i was in full perf
this should only happen when you're doing heavy productivity
cpu at 100% in a game is pretty much a disaster since your GPU can't run any faster than the cpu can feed frames, if the cpu suddenly has to do something else (which will happen on PCs) your game will lose CPU
GPU at 100% is fine
CPU, not so much
GPU at 100% is expected behaviour without frame limits
im gonna economise
if the CPU can feed it fast enough
(as an aside: if you have enough CPU, e.g. a modern hexacore (see: 12th/13th gen i5s), 100% cpu won't happen in games unless you were churning encodes in the back)
well, maybe not that much money, but you will need a display and keyboard too
i already have those
and if i buy a 2000 dollar pc i could play with it for at least 7 years
alrighty. once you're ready to upgrade, you probably should seek build advice here (make a new thread in #1021559476303700040 )
we do suggest desktops over laptops
since it's both much more value for money and lasts longer
we can upgrade the laptops cpu ???
no
if laptop
assume the only things you can upgrade
are the storage and ram
everything else can't
if you still have the old ssd you can reuse the new 1tb ssd in the new pc later on
yep
just put the 250 back into the laptop (you may need to reinstall the OS if you wiped it)
