I have a RTX 3060 and its working fine, most of the time when I play GTA 5/GTA Online I get 120+ fps, but sometimes It's really laggy and I get about 20-40. I have closed all background apps, updated drivers but none of it seems to work, this happened before when I used to play on my laptop that had a GTX 1650. It was laggy until I plugged it in, then it worked fine, so i'm curious if its similar to that problem and gpu is not using its full power? please help

My PC specs are, Intel core i7 10th gen, RTX 3060 12GB, 32GB RAM (16x2) so it cant be the RAM problem

GTA V Online can give various different performance levels depending on what's happening in the world, how many players are online, any mods etc. This is unlikely to be an issue on your end persay, especially if it's non consistent, ie it doesn't happen once you've started to play for x amount of time everytime.

and i havent explored much of story mode so it cant be because of overloading maps etc.

#

and it happens right when I load into story mode

As evernow said, various factors in gta online

#

As in story mode, their engine can't handle above 150FPS if I remember correctly, it can but the game will stutter

#

I suggest capping FPS at something lower than 150FPS if you do get 150FPS above

I just put the resolution at 800x600 and its running really smooth, but it still struggles at bigger resolutions, and i dont see why it should considering i have a pretty high end pc, also it used to run smoothly at fullscreen

You can tey to change your refresh rate, it's a known bug in GTA. Stutters will stop when you change refresh rate to something else apply enter the game and change it back to whateve you want. Let me know if it works.
