The lads and i just started a new minecraft server for which i planned to get a few mods like optifine and forge. All those have to be installed via java, of which i have the latest version. When i try to install however the cmd just pops up and closes immediately. I tried a run.bat file like in many fixing videos and that worked for optifine, but the same problem remains for any other mod. Is there a solution?
#java files dont work

That's not how you install mods
Well how do you then? I prolly said it wrong but we both mean the same thing
You don't run those .jar files directly, you just add them to your %APPDATA%\.minecraft\mods folder & use a modloader like Forge to then run the game
there is no mod folder
do i have to create one?
and when trying to install modladoder the cmd also just pops up briefly
If you open up a PowerShell window in the folder your Forge installer is in & run java -jar forge-1.19.2-43.1.52-installer.jar (the filename here is just an assumption, if yours is named differently, adjust that part of the command), does the installer work?
I've personally not had a good experience using Forge's standalone installer either, I'd really recommend installing some other MC launcher that has mod support built-in (Prism, MultiMC, etc). In those launchers, installing a modloader (or mods, for that matter) is a one-click thing
It should be created once you install Forge
I cant install forge thats my problem
Those are two different things
If you're already switching launchers, might as well switch to something that doesn't sell every bit of data they can get from you
Which one should i get then
I've outlined my recommendations about 3rd party launchers in this message @sinful olive
You've also, so far, not answered my question there
Sorry i didnt see that question. I tried that and it says something like unable to access that file
the filename here is just an assumption, if yours is named differently, adjust that part of the command
Ik i did that
Take a screenshot of the full command prompt after running the command please
It's likely that you're not in the right directory
its not the exact way you described but i think its the same result. correct me if im wrong
i thought powershell was just another name for cmd sorry for that. heres the one for powershell and you can see that i renamed the forge file name to forge.jar
Are you using Minecraft version 1.19.2?
The file being in that directory might cause issues
If you want to open up a Powershell window in any directory, shift-right-click it in Explorer and choose "Open PowerShell here"
JRE 8 should still be able to access the file as far as I know
(but yes, they need 17 to actually launch the game; just another reason I'd just use a 3rd party launcher that does this properly)
Yes
What does directory mean
Can you just download this: https://maven.minecraftforge.net/net/minecraftforge/forge/1.19.2-43.1.52/forge-1.19.2-43.1.52-installer.jar
Then do java -jar C:\Users\Daniel\Downloads\forge-1.19.2-43.1.52-installer(1).jar
The directory is different for yours, but no need to rename the forge file or move it, just either drag it to the command prompt (it'll populate the directory it has) or shift and right click the forge file and click copy as directory
Where the file is.
