#Desktop windows manager eats up 90%+ of my gpu
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Just a side note: this issue never happens when I use my display adapter (GT 1030) or windows 10 only happens when I install the 2080
my friend had that on his 3050 i fixed it but cant remember how
man tried DDU , reinstalling graphics driver, updated windows nothing seems to work
Have u trided turning it off and on again?
Or reinstalling Windows
It might be to do with windows
@charred crystal Are you on 522.25 drivers?
Mb didn't receive the notifications
Just reinstalled windows
Hmm any idea how do I check it?
Oh wait GeForce experience?
It should be in GeForce experience
Otherwise, Device manager > Display adapters > right click GPU then click properties > drivers. Then there should be a driver version but I’m not 100% sure it’ll show it in the correct format.
Or in GeForce experience click check for updates and if there are none your on 522.25
Yep that’s the culprit, go to the download site for nvidias drivers and choose the previous driver version and install it, it’ll go through GeForce experience for the download and that should fix the issue.
Hm this issue is well known for specifically version 522.25?
Yes, scroll through tech support and you’ll see heaps of people with the same issue. I have the issue, my friends have the issue. Spoken to nvidia and they said they’re aware that it’s a driver issue.
I see I believe an update will be publish shortly?
I have the issue on my 4090 so I don’t have the option to downgrade. I’ve got an unusable 4090. It’s been well over a week now and no sign of an update.
Hmm but why does this issue not occured when I installed my GT 1030?
Or when I was in windows 10?
Have you updated your cards drivers recently?
Yea
I’m assuming you have as 522.25 is only recent
Then that would be why the issues occurred
But after I saw this issue I switched it to GT 1030 to see
But then it does not occur
The issue
You swapped the card?
Yea to see
Lemme double check I could be wrong
Btw is it normal for a GPU to spin at max speed when powering up?
Sometimes, different manufacturers have different startup procedures. If you can see the fans spinning on max and GPUZ shows a low GPU consumption there could be an issue. But if the card works I wouldn’t worry about it.
GT1030 supports 522.25 drivers, if you have those installed on the card and it works fine then it could be a compatibility issue with newer gen cards.
Fair enough
Yea true as GT 1030 is kinda like a mesozoic period card
Yeah exactly, did you check to see if it has 522.25 installed?
Hmm was going to but I've noticed this issue while I was doing it
Is the card overheating? If it isn’t then it’s not an issue. Some cards do that on startup then stop after a few minutes. If you’re concerned let it idle and monitor temps, if they don’t go up it’s fine.
The fans stops after I'm in the login page and the temps are well below 30 celcius
Yeah that’s definitely normal, nothing to worry about.
ah i see thx for clearing my concerns
All good, with the GT1030 chances are it’s working because it’s an older card. My advice would be downgrade the drivers on your 20 series card to the previous driver version, probably from a month or two ago and try that. The issue should definitely be resolved.
Ah I see I'll let u know if it works thx a lot for the advice tho
All good 👍
