When I go to the display settings in mint, I am able to see my laptop's screen's advertised refresh rate of 300hz, but after I select it and apply settings, I can still tell the monitor is running at 60hz. I initially suspected it to be a driver issue, as the monitor wouldn't show up in nvidia-settings, but after deleting and purging my nvidia drivers and reinstalling, my nvidia-settings is blank and I'm still experiencing the same issue. Anyone have any insight?

  1. There is something wrong with your Nvidia driver:

Display: x11 server: Xorg 1.20.3 driver: modesetting FAILED: nvidia

  1. Do you have another monitor at 60Hz? Xorg cannot set individual refresh rates for individual monitors, you'll need some of the workarounds from here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxhardware/comments/mht7kn/workaround_for_multiple_monitors_with_different/

I posted to the mint subreddit and found a solution for my issue; I'll repost it here
