Many of my games are occasionally showing this Test Pattern, rather than showing one of the mini-videos from the game.
In Returnal, it happens at the end of every loop, instead of showing the crash.
In Astroneer, it happens when booting up the game.
There are others, but I don't recall immediately.
Audio works normally, video switches from what it is supposed to be to the given photo (full screen).

The bottom-right shows white-noise video (it's active video, not a ... static... picture).
That's some cutscene or other kind of video being encoded with Media Foundation

To all who read this issue report and thread: I've migrated the tables to my repository at https://github.com/HonkingGoose/proton_codecs_media_support_tracker If you want to update a table ...
use GE Proton 7 and it should solve this issue mostly
had same issue in FNaF SB
I am unable to open game Properties menus at the moment. Maybe I should actually restart my computer.
which steam version you use? beta version or normal
also how you installed your steam client
It's been working fine for a while, and I played Returnal a couple of times after it came out.
Originally installed via the "special" site Steam for Linux led me to, and it's been updating every time via the auto-updater.
you should install steam from official site (apt) or flatpak
do not install software from untrusted source
unless you can trust them and they wont do bam bozzles on your device
would you tell which site you installed steam?
"Repo" on Steampowered
https://repo.steampowered.com/download/
uh this one
you should configure apt source
they have instructions to configure
you are on ubuntu / debian / popos right? then apt are optimal way to go
Ubuntu
Already did
When I first installed it
That was part of the problem with Proton not working right on Day 1.
It's been a couple months since I got Steam working the first time.
I'm going to restart the system. brb
Also, any suggestions on this (pictured below) error? Just remove the apt for it?
