Like I paid for this product and just want to know what I bought đ
Reddit as a platform just always results in that
a good chunk of these are meme question, a portion are question to which you'd know the answer to if you actually read the dev diary or even the videos and a large part is asking the same question that was asked 5 times
But it is easier to refer to, whereas discord gets lost
I guess if they made a specific channel they could lock it would work though
Tbh I wanted to know more about formables, warlord paths, and coal distribution
Some of it were just revealed in the Philippines devstream
you could makea thread channel
every question a seperate thread
Ah, fellow historical bros, i see
exactly
these are good questions
We heard about the Maâs and Sinkiang. But nothing about other warlords
I want to know how they differ
And how will coal effect majors
now this is an interesting question
They showed in the stream that Germany doesnât perform as well against the Soviets. Is this driven by coal or doctrines?
When I looked yesterday and saw the top comment was asking if there will be no compromise no surrender, I knew what we were getting into
and then they answer only 1 part of 3 questions
these are good
but they ignore the interesting question
of an ottoman king on Sinkiang
Could mean itâs a hidden path or not in
Maybe they want it too be a surprise because there is one?
that would be cool
Itâs just wild how little weâve heard or seen about coal đ
A resource that basically determines factory output and conquest scaling
They tell us about coal on Christmas
Idk why i got downvoted from asking for Malaysia to be the name of PHI-led formable instead of Maphilindo
They missed out by 2-3 months against Malaysia and decided to scrap the name change.
Also the use of "Malaysia" term waaaaay predates the usage of "Maphilindo"
It's one of the first things revealed in NCNS' announcement diary lel
tbf
I know about it
Because for the sake of HOI4, it would just muddle the game tbh and isnât that important compared to other gameplay mechanics
but I find it interesting that they really consider it as mongolia
Like exchange one Klingon name for another
It's just renaming.
Maphilindo sounds wacky, Mafilindo less so tbh
but thats new
Yeah, if i was twice as persistent regarding this, i would be seen as obtuse.
At least the Filipinos in the relevant thread supported my suggestion đ¤ˇââď¸
To be honest im excited for faction rework
Oh shit, Empire has me excited. Canât wait to pull off some Yuan Shikai type shenanigans
I just donât really see the significance of this compared to factions, naval, coal, doctrine etc
When i will try to conquer a small european country that country wont join random factions like greece joining Chinese united front
Hoping the same goes for South American factions
That will be massive change when trying to unifify south america
Just hoping people stay out of South American factions and those countries stay out of other factions
Oh i agree
But well, it's like you're adding sugar instead of salt on your soup. It would taste funny but nothing bad
Needs more isolation
Even so, it being called Malaysia doesnât differentiate it from the others
Think itâs good to have more variability in that sense than not
I like when similar formables have different names tbh
Rename fascist MAL to "State of Malaya"
Like Paraguay and Uruguay can both core south America but have different names for it
PHI conquers the Archipelago: Malaysia
INS conquers the Archipelago: Nusantara
MAL/Aceh/Sulu/Brunei conquers the Archipelago: Can use either but i'm leaning to Nusantara
Sinkyang ottomans path đđ bro
Making the Ottoman Empire from China would be sick
Or a Chinese Islamic empire
Which was why they wanted him
I just wanted to know if the Japanese could peace the allies out if Japan took enough pacific land
Soft confirmation that the Netherlands are going to get the Manchukuo treatment of a minor rework in Thunder at Our Gates.
could be australia
tbf
or nzl
doesnt particularly scream any country to me
malaysia too
they dont have content rn
and are definitely not free
Malaysia and New Zealand arenât listed as having content in Thunder at Our Gates. I will concede that New Zealand could get a minor rework like the Warlords and Manchukuo did though.
IMO joint australia-new zealand tree wouldnt be that unlikely considering all their history has kind of been working together
new zealand helped supply early australian setrlements for example
Yeah, I can see that.
but its much more intertwined after ww1 and the ANZAC corps
and its eithin the scale of thr update
but really theres no singular nation that stands out a lot imo
its for the larp đ
But sp players soundly even notice
And hmm will prob just add in pregrinds
Coal should buff the USA which is why I imagine theyâre getting nerfed again
why would coal nerf the USA?
they have like 500 oil, and they're still not that OP until late game, that's their whole point
they are so self sufficient they focus on themselves and the recovery of the great depression, using the civs they gain from selling their resources (trade) to other countries
coal won't change that, infact it might make them weaker
IRL it was similar, nations that could afford american goods bought them, giving america an economy and giving the nations receiving these goods the ability to utilize them
only difference is almost nobody in hoi4 really suffered from the depression it's only america
last i checked, they still do that
militarily they are intertwined, my grandfather went to vietnam with some kiwis as a forward expeditionary and radio lines deployer
yes but theres history to it and it mattered even more back then
i was gonna comment, but decided against it since it's so off topic even for #off-topic, ima dip and lock in on WT
im so hyped for this dlc
I'm looking forward to the revised Focus Tree on Czechoslovakia. If Austria is allowed to defend itself against The Anschluss, why shouldn't Czechoslovakia be allowed to do the same before its dismemberment?
It already can. Semi easily thanks to level 7 forts it gets in its current focus tree
It sounds like they will make it harder with the new dlc as they say it will be a nation for veterans of the game
M,N/.VBDCFSHML.K,NJ/SDFG.M,/KJGHFED R,.M/ WSGERF,./M N
Insightful
deep
It can
They always have been able to
They also have the ability to pre-emptively hand sudetenland to Germany, typically seen in old Hungary forming AH
This is true
You misread what I said
Coal is buffing the USA, which is probably why the USA is getting nerfed. As in itâs why their generals and military leaders start at lower levels etc
Like every US general is losing a level and Eisenhower is losing 2 levels
You have none kf the generals they had until you do focuses
But yea, coal alone saves so much oil for america
Use that for ships
Donât think you can
They talked about it when they talked about the naval changes for 1.17 (new dlc)
But, coal effectively determines factory output now. So many majors major struggle with partial if inadequate factory output due to lack of coal and conquest lowering coal/energy effiency
While USA, USSR and China should be full all the time
China wouldnt
They're gonna have so many other issues, like no modernization compared to Japan, but as the war goes on they'll 100% get it
Japan owns half of that, and before China can fight back theyll own most of the coal
France, Italy, Germany and Japan basically netted
Through a puppet yeah
Iirc wasn't thay why Japan took manchuria, or at least 1 reason
Then they attack China for resources, and land, as thats what all good empires back then needed
Nowadays, you could be isle of man and as long as you have influence youre capable of forming a world empire
The diaries also said that if you take land, your energy efficiency goes down bc non-core debuffs.
So even though Germany and Japan can conquer it, theyâre not going to be as efficient
Oooh, im excited for the dlc even more now
Their own weight will crush them
hopefully coal can be used for navy, as was used IRL
In one of the diaries the devs said it wonât be
Canât remember which one
Damn, thats dumb ngl
Prolly rhe coal one
I might have misread it thats why I thought so
Believe it or not though, many ships by this time were already not coal
Like after the 20âs most werenât coal anymore
Yh, but it'd be cool for minors with no oil or civs to buy oil
But would be cool if early ship classes were, or had the option
Kek coal plane
Basically they said while some ships and dreadnoughts would be, they opted not to since the majority werenât coal
And they didnât wants ships competing with your economic needs
T1 engine's (oil/coal), t2+ using oil would fix it ngl
But... oil is already used for everything and eats into your civs if you need to buy more?
In a sense yeah
I think they basically just wanted major conquest nations to feel the weight of occupation
Like if you achieve autarky and do formables itâs not as big of a deal
It also incentivizes you to setup puppets/collabs
I think they wanted Germany and Japan to use Reichkommisariats more
Japan doesnt really get that choice
They kinda already just puppet all of china under the reorganized government
Germany already has all thr RK's, which are only useful if you dont use collabs
But i see your point
I wonder how impactful coal will be for japan
Conquer or starve
Well really itâll just be a hard starting position for Germany and Japan. Conquering will slowly boost their economy but if it stagnates it can also slow you down so your enemies will outpace you
guess from what region in Germany I am from
if I say we have enough coal we have enough coal damn you!
I just hope
China gets actually rewarded
for holding out
Will it be enough once you take France? Will Franceâs economy offset your domestic production?
are they not getting anything like rks
japan was way different from germany
otl they had like 3 or 4 different puppet governments before wang jiwei regime
just in china alone
germany occupied regions and put germans/people they considered to be higher race in charge
yea i know
japan did collaboration governments made out of locals
japan used local collaborators
its just like
but like
i mean
itd make more sense if it was just a decision imo
cause they would have unique tags and such
and of course china was a huge mess until all their governments were consolidated into rgc
ofc im just explaining why it probably wont be added
ofc
im just hoping japan ends up at least as good as germany is
in terms of content / flavor
but i realize thats a bit high
esp for a dev team that is likely more familiar with the german side of the war
im more concerned over the navy mechanics and the factions
cause thats stuff that could be huge for mods
Honestly I feel like japan is looking better than gemrany so far
not even just that
the source material for everything japan is mediocre at best
because of the chinese civil war immediately after ww2, followed up by the vietnam war a lot of stuff was censored, lost, etc
japan also has never been very fond of sharing a lot about the war, and the global interest was more on 'in a possibly hot war, how should we fight the east/west'
and japan quite honestly did not really play a part in that
lack of interest also means less preservation, less publishing
mm i see
japan on top of that also was pretty "recently" isolated from the world
and not really uh globalist
are we that uninformed on it
not entirely
i always figured anything that was lost likely was too specific for a game like this
but you have to understand that its much harder than germany
mm fair
the more i learn the more i realize japan had the biggest pr miracle of the century
i mean
this is a trend youll see in other games too
take for example war thunder they want to depict a lot of tanks in realism
and even though we are pretty sure japan had more tank types than are confirmed, theres incredibly dubious sources at best
and even with their best intentions theyre often left just making guesses (for example for some tanks' roofs, we do not know if they existed or not)
and i believe the devs have spent a lot of time researching of course
but its just very difficult
with language barrier as well ofc
mm yea thats the main thing i was imagining
I would doubt it
They might have the choice to make like Malaya and Philippines into imperial vassals, but germsny actually needs the RK's or they run out of manpower occupying everything
...and japan wouldnt?
I know for sure they got the Philippines and I guess the Reorganized Government for achiba
And the Indochinese nations
And maybe Azad Hind
How did I spell China so bad
the territory japan occupied had a higher population iirc
thats most of them i think
minus indonesia
that looks pretty good
i am curious to see how they will handle the occupation before wang jiwei rgc
Indonesia would probably be a unified RK for the islands
Siam gets Malayan mainland Asia
But yea, Japan IRL never really had plans as ambitious as Adam Hilt did with the reich, they mostly held onto the coast as they left China the mainland in a loyal vassal state, and SEA would be like Siam, part of the GEACPS but with the same rules as manchuria and allat
Basically the RK's but autonomous
At least, according to AI, this may be subject to being incorrect, I am actively laying in bed and could not be bothered to get onto my pc to properly and formally research this
I personally think the japanese should get their own vassal type specifically for their tag (tag = JAP) specifically for that, China too with the qing (maybe even ming as a funny little thing)
My idea is
Imperial Mandate = independent but vassals like the SEA nations. This is basically Reichskomissariat moscau or the Raj
Imperial Vassal = Manchuria, or other vassal states like them. - this is ostland or what Palestine/Jordan are
Imperial Governents = Inland China, and any vassals like Siberia, Far East Empire, maybe even Pacific America - this is similar to Bohemia RK
Then ofc the occupied lands with a japanese exclusive occupation law "Imperial Military Occupation" with more resource gain and suppression but you lose compliance too
Watch there be puppets for the whole world
Lets not compare it to rks
Although imperial mandates could be like resource states
lets rename imperial vassals to collaboration states since they presented themselves as freeing asia from colonials
True ill prolly mod or smth when im done spin
It's obvious since Indonesia is getting a full content.
In my Indies mod i make the Netherlands (in the Move to Batavia path) to be more difficult to gain compliance without political concessions
At least skeleton content for MAL, and General Arthur Percival to be moved there
Probably
There are also coal deposits in West Sumatra and West Java, though. But the biggest untapped deposists are in Kalimantan
Itâs why I keep really wanting to see more about coal. I want to see what non-core coal is like and what the distribution of it is
Legit may be the most impactful thing coming
But something we know the littlest about
Whereâs this from?
I wonder
post on reddit before the AMA
Ah
Woah
careful there
One step from Japan Apologia

Wait what? USA is no more part of the Allies?
I assume they'll merge
in 1941
holy shit
I just realized something
Imagine the USA can force the Allies into their 'power bloc'
and forces them to decolonize via the new reworked faciton
like a 'force decolonization' thing that gives weekly puppet autonomy

Atlantic Charter can be made more important in HoI4
The biggest supporter of it from the Dutch side was... Van Mook obviously
Because the US is notorious for hating decolonization. Theyâd never manifest such a destiny for themselves
Sarcasm went over your head
US wouldnât really do that for anything out of the Americas
Tbf, USA historically did push for European powers to decolonize
Only when it would favor American interests
Yeah after the game takes place
Henry Wallace is notorious
The game ends 1948. The US didnât really push for this until the 1950âs and 1960âs apart from in the Americas.
If you are going to include such mechanics then the Cold War would need implementation as well
By 1948, america decolonizing was already taking place, and that is what made other nations start
Because if USA can be a strong, dominant power (world hegemon) even after decolonization, we should follow suit so we dont seem like the bad guys
Also bc of like, hundreds of other factors, all of which are so variable that one slight change ih the war easily could have left the world in a worse position by decolonizimg
US pushed for decolonization so it can gain influence over more markets. Not for morality đ
Nah morality wasn't their plan
It literally wanted empires to crumble so that it could invest, gain resource rights, and have economic pull over new areas
Even though they basically controlled all that as is
Bc who's gonna argue with a country that can shoot guns outa guns and make it cost effective
Right, but the majority of continents didnât decolonize till the 1950âs
Indochina, Africa, Malaysia, Caribbean, and many others followed in the 1960âs
So how would this be represented in game?
It already is, but it doesnt have to be included historically
All that needs to be changed is if UK decolonizes, then they should be able to pressure other nations to so the same
When does Africa and Asia decolonize on historical?
It already does that ahistorical
It doesnt unless the player goes alt-hist before UK can do their 1st focus
yeah
boohoo
but still
Point stands
Yeah the point stands it took place a decade or two after the game is set đ
no...?
I stand corrected
Egypt never was as colonized as say, Zambia or other inner African nations like thay
It kinda was just forced into british rule under a british loyalist
Modern morality is also different than morality ideals back then
It always fluctuates, this is true
its both
america was anti imperialism
but it also helps that decolonised countries could fall into the american sphere
Or rather replacing the previous imperialism with their own
"Fell in" many of them had their governments overthrown by the cia
Yea and ur ignoring the fact the position the American had
During the Suez Canal crisis
Or during Indonesia war of independence
This is true
The Soviet Union overthrown multiple governments through coups too
Were they not anti imperialist
The fact is during the Cold War both the Soviet Union and the United States took anti imperialist positions
Any major power is imperialist. Always have been
Yea their own brand
Like sure they allowed Indonesia to have independence then followed it up by overthrowning the countries leader
Look at China today with their new Silk Road initiative. Same idea different form
Itâs diplomatic plays to get them into their sphere of influence
Playing the smart game
Claiming the US and the USSR were anti-imperialist is like claiming the 6th coalition was anti-imperialist
The 6th coalition was only anti-imperialist against the French Empire
And the Cold war was anti-imperialism... But only against European powers
I introduce you to this nice thing
called
depth, murkiness and grey areas
Its when 2 things can be true simultaneously
even when they may seem like they oppose each other
Not really
Yes
It is just that they hypocritically waved the flag of anti-imperialism in order to impose their own
Also true, doesnât change the original statement
yes
they were in fact anti imperialist then
hypocrites? sure
but they still were anti imperialists in that sense
but its more complex because they did want empires, where the french republic didnt
so its more like they were regressionists against anti-imperialism
and the anti-imperialism was done by the french empire
your actions can do more than 1 thing at ocne you know
thats where the grey area is
The guise of anti-imperialism yes. But in reality they were just toppling governments and extending influence through their own form of imperialism
Exactly
All Iâm trying to say though is having the US pursue anti-imperialism on historical wouldnât really make sense since most of the strides taken were from 1947 onward.
Would rather see the US focus late game on NATO/anti communism
We desperately need a pdx Cold War game
Itâs like the one time period still missing
They did have one in development
I think in parallel to hoi 4?
But it got quietly dropped afaik
I'd honestly rather see a hoi5 (whenever it comes) that starts in WW2, and goes into the cold war
Sort of like the fire rises
This is really that wacky IRL btw
The Eisenhower Administration backed the Indonesian Government led by Sukarno and Indonesian High Command led by Nasution
Dulles' CIA backed the Indonesian renegade colonels led by Ahmad Hussein
Or even modern tbh
A win no matter what đ
Nope
The result is the Soviet-Indonesian Rapproachment
Then Kennedy sent 10 C-130 to Indonesia to make amends and releasing a captured American pilot who supporting the rebels.
No it's stupid to have 20 different cosmetic tags for essentially the same formable, all the south American formables having different names is stupid instead of just having a decision generic formabke that they all have access to
not everything has to be significant to you to be significant as a whole
i think making the people which the content is about happy is a good thing
And I think itâs stupid to have a single tag for 20 different countries. Itâs unlikely that unified regions would have the same name for all peoples, as thatâs rarely the case throughout history.
Like yesss, a unified Portuguese empire should have the same name as a Spanish one. đđđ
Dude union of Latin American socialist Republics and South American socialist Republics can just be the same formable it's stupid to have 2 of them
Not what I said
Like chile can core Brazil in Hispanic union formable
Personally I prefer the differentiation and think that dumbing the game down isnât needed. So we just disagree on the topic
America do sul and united states of South America could just have been ideology names for the same formable and not different cosmetic tags
Its not dumbing the game down it's not having bloat
This has gotta be ragebait
No way you actually see diversity in names as a bad thing. đ
There's no reason to have like 5 different Persian empire names
Or 4 alpine cosmetic tags instead of ideology names
Yes by this logic, every ideology for Germany should have the same name. Every formable should also be the same, not dependent on ideology.
French Empire? Nah just call it France
Great Britain? Nah just call it UK
I've said formable names not ideology
Peopleâs republic of China? Nah just call it China
Missing the point
Countries as they are basically are formable countries. Nations comprised of states and diff peoples. Names allow for being able to differentiate them
That why you have it anmed differently with a different ideology but it still has the same cosmetic tag
You are missing the point
Right, but formables often differ bc the nation forming them. So the nation running it, have different cultures
Like the Seljuks owning Iran would have a diff name than the Mongols or Greeks bc theyâre led by a different people
The name differentiates their leaders
Ok but a united south America as Argentina and Chile should just be the same and not be 3 different cosmetic tags since they all achieve the same purpose
Why? Do they have identical histories? Ethnicities? Cultures?
Like African union as ethiopia and as Congo are the same cosmetic tag as they achieve the same purpose
No they donât đ
đđđ
They genuinely arenât the same
This is the problem with your logic on eliminating naming variety in formables. It assumes theyâre all identical, when in reality most countries differ quite a lot
And yes, Chile and Argentina have different histories, cultures, ethnicities
It removes bloat
dude they are both hispanic
No they are not different ethnicities
They have shared history
Thatâs like saying the USA and UK are identical bc Anglo roots
Thereâs still sub cultures and traditions
Similar culture
Yes but we are arguing a formable that unifies these cultures
They legit had different natives, relationships with other polities, different formations
And my argument is an Argentinian led one is different than a Chilean led one
Dude we are talking about Hispanics not natives
Hoi4 already has a unified Americas as federation of natives that makes sense as a separate tag
But sudamerica legionara and confederation sudamericana should be the same
Missing the point. These countries are much more complex than âBoth Hispanicâ
Every country is complex
Thanks for proving my point! đ
Just waiting for the dlc
But still makes more sense for all the Latin countries to form a Hispanic union
Like all the caribean nations form antilles confederation
All the Arab countries form arabia
All the Nordic countries form nordics
Not true, they have diff formables and tags
All the Baltic countries form the baltics
Nope it's all the same nordic_unified tag
Ah yes letâs return to like 2019 naming conventions and dumb the game down
Ngl I enjoy they add diversity. You call it bloat, I call it flavor
Just mod in unseasoned names if you want ig
Like 4 days
I did my final PRC one
Coal might be huge for European balance
No i think it will hurt minor nations even more
If they don't distribute it properly
Like africa or the americas
what is actually the problem?
Unique and relevant names = bad
True
Soviets will have a huge economic leap
As soon as Japan conquers China theyâll be powerful
Not what I said, I said that having 5-6 different cosmetic tags for the same formable is bloat, there's no need for like 5 different greater Finlands, 4 different alpine formables, or the billion united south America formables that all effectively achieve the same thing with coring those territories. It can still be achieved using ideology names instead as it makes no sense that a formable such as union of South American socialist Republics is still called that even when non aligned or fascist
there isnt actually a problem of having them other than hollowbeing having to make 3 separate videos
Yes it is âbloatedâ but it doesnt affect any gameplay
Id argue it makes each feel unique while being essentially the same
The PDX community still cries because vic 3 has an oversimplified military system and you want a game about the cold war, famous for not going hot lol?
You're being purposefully dense lol
Iâm not reading all that. We disagree, letâs leave it at that.
Would effectively be a spy/intelligence game.
Nono
No, my position is clear. Itâs okay to disagree. đ
It is
but you're being
How do you call it
When you mistrue the argument
Genuinely I donât care about the argument anymore. Letâs move on from it
Again, letâs move on
So I dont think a Cold war game would work
I mean you could make a "vicky" style game
for the cold war
add economics
ands politics
that could be interesting
but I guarantee you
the people criticizing vicky 3 for its military
would probably do the same
Unless you want to escalate it to WW3
Respecting others boundaries in HOI4 discord, level impossible
I moved on 3 times and you keep bringing it up but also you were mistruing his argument and when someone calls it out you're like "Lets move on (dont expose me please đ˘)"
A cold war game would be peak
Issue is having the military system be wholly about physical units occupying provinces forces your hand when trying to represent irregular warfare of the Cold War period
Not that Vic3 is as of yet addressing that with the new guerilla war type that probably has no worth to advertise here. The micromanagement of individually interacting with battles is always required for a war game and nothing's changing yet
Plus HOI4 started like this, where you had to occupy states with actual divisions
And it was hell
personally
I think you could, at leasti in hoi4, represent guerilla warfare with unit spawn ins
but I really hate just a "guerilla warfare" state modifier
You wouldn't want to with the unit movement micro needed on the occupier's part
tbf
garrison order
problem solved
Idk why people make it seem like such a huge issue
the devs said the same, its why we dont get unit spawn ins for commie china
I dunno, if the intention is that historical Yugoslavia can do it
Then I don't want to see the historical MP reaction when you got someone up your bottom manually guerilla-ing your control of the balkans out of your grip
All it would require is to put garrison units
down
like you'd had to do before la resistance
and then units would get auto hunted
like the "crush rebels" feature in eu4
I don't think auto-hunting is a credible counter to a player moving units up your backside
Yes
makes it more fun lol
for the guerilla warfare player
and its just meant to buy you time really
Needs to be tolerable for the occupier
Otherwise it's just a distraction from the main front that's only purpose is to be degenerate to the pacing of the match
I mean yea
but I feel like a balance like this could be found
And I feel like some countries do deserve such a mechanic
like Yugoslavia
Which historically was a pain in the ass because of that
and liberated itself
(all of) China
And maybe the soviets
My point still stands that I simply don't see units on provinces as a viable guerilla warfare mechanic
Maybe HOI IV team can cook something else up
Maybe they're too dug in with the engine they're stuck with
hoi3 had the ability to just
spawn units from resistance in places
which was dumb and complicated
I find that a cool concept
That's almost my point
its a cool concept but it doesnt really work great
i think the issue between guerrilla warfare and hoi4 personally
is the tile system
my discord bugs im sorry đ
but its like you either take and have a tile or you dont and theres no real way to partially control stuff
anyway
Im a gremlin
I play assymetrical
so Im more drawn to this shit
(cant wait to spam militia as Commie China)
(with the new doctrines)
paratrooper spam fr
for me it were marine commandos
the italian/german player every minute
It would be funny if that was achievable using rivers
Ah yes, the genius idea I came up with: mountaineering expeditions
Explain
you have nailed my world view
Exactlyyy
I think its moreso just common sense, no point in saying someone is more bad than another imo
The scale and intensity does vary
So the dlc comes out like Thursday right?
Wild to get coal, energy and faction info so lateđ
literally my thoughts, wouldnt make more sense to have done that last week instead of doing to dev diaries in like 2 days of each other?
Agreed
Moreso than anything these are the most impactful
Moreso than any tree or military rework
So Iâm kinda worried đ
coal especially want to see
Fr, they touched on energy like months ago
Yeah, I donât know how theyâre going to cram all that into one diary either
I think theyâre gonna do two and probably a patch notes one
I was thinking Monday will be all the new feature and Tuesday will be for art achievements patch notes and stuff for modders
4Days
blame eu5
eu 5 to be fair is really good and a succes
a new game gets always the treatment
Hopefully
I really want to know how occupation laws and economy laws interact with coal/energy. Will unique economic laws like Anarchism/New Economic Policy be buffed as a result?
New thing bad. Old thing good. If people like new thing itâs because theyâre dummies unlike me, the enlightened Chad
It's not about old thing good new thing bad, it's about Europa universalis being bad in general
whats eu5 even about
age of exploration, discorvery of the americas
but it also starts about 100+ or so years before that even happened
that sounds like a game would take years
Think it took some people around 5 hours to go from 1330s-1450 ish
But they were also brand new
It doesnât take that long but you definitely get a lot of time out of an EU game if you play from beginning date to ending date
Is there a bonus song?
Probably not
I feel like they wouldâve announced it. Wasnât the bonus just the fleet tenders?
Weird, this is probably the first major dlc without one in years
Could be a last minute announcement but Iâd guess we wouldâve heard about it before
sadly
I love my music
Think they might be done with the bonus song thing? They had bonus songs for years then just released a dlc where you could buy them all
Why is Paraguay and Uruguay not in the country selection menu?
They arent? I think it might be because they were side projects that were added in
Im pretty sure iceland was added into the menu recently maybe in GOE?
Maybe to make the menu symmetrical
So with the philippines being added they might add in uruguay and paraguay
Don't forget Aussa too
They share the same tree either the ethiopian releasables so no
But they are a starting nation with a focus tree
doesnt matter that is shared
Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, and Paraguay share the same military branch
Baltics share the same industry branch
Nordics have a shared tree
aussa is nice ig
it isn't that hard to play and if you've ever played Ethiopia you know what's coming
Since you go to war around February 20, 1936, you get a luxury Ethiopia doesn't
You can hire a general (also helped by the fact it only costs 5 for Aussa)
In fact, if you get lucky by getting Commando (and then camoflague expert), Aussa might be easier than Ethiopia
its way easier
no research debuff, more spare IC
Ah yeah no research debuff helps
But spare IC?
i see
ill use and utilise em ALL
today news?
When dev diary
That is not as cool as the fact that there will be faction special project research
Making special projects faster
alr
wonder if we will get the balance changes video today
is it a thing?
Theyâre already really fast, not sure they need to be faster
what
you're wrong
You can get nukes and supersonic jets by 1942
With good rng SuperSonics can come out in 1942
Yes, doesnât change the fact that they are researched ridiculously fast
No they arent
They are
The nuke research literally gives you free nukes brother like what
Okay
You donât need faster research for them
Maybe not for them
But have you ever used an ice carrier in an mp game?
or seen itb
No because waste of research
I havent
They are really good lol
ever considered mp games are faster than intended gametime
SP is also faster then intended game time

In fact
even faster
Can be, but 36 carriers are good enough and therefore better

not really for the average player
What
people are bad
like you can find the stats somewhere
i forgot where
of the average hoi player
mp and by extension knowledgeable people are a minority
They need to be faster
Well, youâre point is different then
Not really
I just specified it
Because you used exceptions
and made it a rule

Not really, guarantee I can find a lot more projects that can be done just as quick, those were just the ones Iâve personally tested
cool
Cool
Dont blame them
Hoi4 community dog shit
Wouldn't recommend the Mp experience to anyone

yeah they said we getting a video this week about it
and the release is thursday so
If u remember show me
no
No you donât remember, or no you wonât show?
Still no dev diary
18 nov and 19 i bet
wont show to chris specifically
Dang itâs the whole soundtrack?

05:01 March of Hope...
Maybe tomorrow
Warriors Heart March reminds me of earlier HOI titles
better than nothing ig
Leaving the faction dev diary for 2 days before the update is risky at very least
So like, I like the music. Itâs very soundtrack oriented. But kinda makes me miss the marches of earlier dlc. Like Drum Bun, March of the Defenders, My, Pierwsza Brygada
U just hate me then đ
Japan, KMT, and PRC have some pretty good march songs. So itâs a shame none made it, even in instrumental form
Wonder why they went full instrumental soundtrack this time around
Will they keep the old Chinese and Japanese soundtracks?
who knows, who knows...
I ate one of them so only Nov 19
Like NSB had these and Katyusha
With lyrics đ˘
This dlc sounds like a WW2 game soundtrack donât get me wrong
https://youtu.be/S1WjtLkoddA?si=XAA3pYGkGWaur9lM Couldâve even just had an instrumental of this song

btw did they add the exclusive music when you pre order?
I think the exclusive were 3d models this time around. Not a song
I canât be the only one who wished for marches lol
They did
Fleet tenders đ
Ngl ship 3d models are kinda the lowest on my want list
But this being pacific war, I get it
Nah they have like 6-8
wdym
yeah i mean the pre order bonus
for nsb is katyusha
for bba is bella ciao etc
nothing else
and i think maybe they should add something new
maybe a few models, maybe a bit of portaits, icons, or even events
1 song is.. boring?
I spent $50 for those seaplane tenders. Im getting the DLCs for free
Top tier pre-order bonus, trust
(More than likely will never use)
Achievements when
seaplane tenders is gonna change the meta
Tell us if the seaplane tenders do anything or is it actually just a skin for a destroywr
its a model pack
Skins
it just gives some visuals
A skin... Of a seaplane tender.... For a destroyer.... A ship that cannot have a seaplane module.....
theyre changing navy
I think they can soon
I think they are giving access to some cruiser modules to destroyers
get it if you want 1% better visuals
I hope so, I didn't spend 900 hours in this game for some army or air force. I'm all about navy
By giving cruiser modules to destroyers, they are allowing sea plane carrying patrol boats
you can play hoi4 without having the game on excel spreadsheets actually
so skin packs are useless
yk what ill be the first to say it you dont have to buy the game to get into hoi4 meta
There is a naval game that is actually just excel spreadsheet and it costs 40$
Rule the waves 3, look it up
Still, I play hoi 4 for the navy, probably because I'm insane
Great
Excited for Wednesday
It will in the upcoming dlc
The OST is a banger
Good work
Also nice mix of Battle music and Chill nation building pre war music
will there be any more dev diarys for achivmets or things like that?
I really liked Stillness of the north
tommorow
Is that Andreas Waldetoft in the new soundtrack? đ
I love soundtracks in game
Same
where do you see when new come out?is there like a list for that?
Rule the Waves 3 is peak if you get past the learning curve and are fine with minimalist graphic design.
The combat is not an excel spreadsheet.
but seaplane tenders had the size of a light cruiser, not a destroyer
Yeah I found that weird too. Bc technically a destroyer may be able to launch a small floatplane if thatâs all it was designed for. But the 3d models have like PBYâs đ
Also I did not quite understand from the dev diary how were PT boats accounted for? They are like modified destroyers?
Yes
They literally just made them cheap destroyers
I think it may just buff destroyers
And the downside to making pt boats instead of destroyers is.....?
Less stats
Idk if PT boats are actual units you can build
But also I think its philippines exclusive
Or if itâs just like a module/buff for destroyers
Basically Phillipines will have a buff for it
But everyone can use them
I just checked it in dev diary
It's literally just destroyers and you have a doctrine that makes your destroyers have some buffs?
Am I reading it right?
You have a patrol boat doctrine that modifies your destroyer stats
Or in some cases a heavy cruiser.
Tangier was just shy of 12,000 tonnes after her conversion.
Curtiss was 13,691 tonnes fully loaded.
yes, and the dlc models are based on 5000 tonns ships, so they would be light cruisers
Also, not being the size of a destroyer is also not true.
hoi4 gamers >>>> consultant historian of paradox, if they have someone
A number of Clemson class destroyers were converted to Seaplane tenders.
destroyers have stats?
tbf
Paradox has to balance game balance
So they make some concessions
You know I'm not worried they made seaplane carriers the size of destroyers.
They made pt boats the size of destroyers
They literally made little boats that are 1/5th the size of an actual destroyer a better version of it
Compare it for yourself
Thatâs what I said like 5 times đ
Yeah sorry I guess I just didn't want to believe they would make something that stupid
I think PT boats do have 3d models potentially though. Like if I understand it correctly, they may be a module
Theyâre reworking naval so Iâm sure theyâre be useful in certain roles. Whereas traditional destroyers will be better in others
I donât mind it tbh.
If PT boats were a unique ship people would just spam thousands of them
I guess but it just misses the entire point of a pt boat
Think they just extend view range, no?
The song "Where the Dragon Rises" in the new soundtrack is a direct call back to "Battle of Wuhan" right?
You mean?
Sounds like it
Should just like buff torpedo attack and spotting. While nerfing hp ig?
It's like making a bayraktar drone a slightly different A-10
I just donât know how theyâd implement PT boats as their own class without them being broken
So better to be support
How would you implement a PT boat?
Irl you wouldnât want to send thousands of small ships in bc lack of ranged weapons, no armor and would get shredded. But in game, you could just overwhelm larger ship classes with torpedo spam
like a module in destroyers, and those destroyers would be a mother ship of pts?? it would be better than a pt class ship
Have them not exist as individuals but as squadrons.
PT boat tenders were generally converted cargo ships.
I think thatâs what they did. Unless itâs just buffs and tweaks to destroyer stats
I think it should be something like planes in game. You could build a building on the coast that function as a base, and from it you could send a squadron (like air wings) to the sea region where the base is located
So instead of a destroyer, have a new ship class that acts as a PT tender?
Thatâs also how ships work
But the range would be limited to this specific region where the base is built. And the squadrons would replenish themselves
That seems kinda OP
Itâs like that stationery gun special project
Only problem is PT boats werenât limited to operations like that
I think being a module of Destroyers and Cruisers would be best
I would understand making corvettes worse destroyers but pt boats were
Just wooden boats
Can I just use rowboats
With torpedos as it's only armament and machine guns against planes
And like put a few grenades in there
Torpedo and AA spam would kinda be broken đ
What I'm saying is, I don't see a point in making a pt boat a modified destroyer, I would rather not have it at all
Why?
Iâm not trying to be difficult or a contrarian. I just donât see why itâs bad
I view PT boats similar to float planes I guess
So donât mind that they would just boost a larger ship. Even though IRL they were a bit more independent
Ok I can see how it could be implemented but it should be massively nerfed destroyer
Should be like a destroyer focused on attacking convoys rather than surface ships imo
Because a standard Elco pt boat had 4 torpedos and 2 machine guns and 2 20mm cannons
Now compare it to any destroyer
But speed đ
Yeah Elco pt boat could go 27 knots
Fletcher class destroyer could go 36 knots
Only at the end of the war pt boats could have any comparable speeds to a destroyer
A pt boat had enough fuel for a 12 hour patrol
After checking I was wrong with Elco going 27 km knots
It could go 41
3 days till dlc
Which is still comparable to a destroyer
But the thing is a boat is a boat and a ship is a ship
There is no point in comparing them because in no plane of reality could a pt boat even come close to serving a role as a destroyer
Hence it supporting destroyers with potential for spotting and extra torpedo
Oh damn I only now understood what you meant
I thought by making it a module you meant giving this module would change the destroyer into a pt boat
And you meant it would turn the destroyer into a pt boat tender
I'm so stupid sorry

Thx bro
Np mate
Got birthday money, you already know where I'm using it
Do you think people can post pre release videos today?
For me was a friend gifted it to me as gift for my birthday
Its not just a friend but a best friend
Also do you know much cheap is in my region the expansion pass 2?
its $33.99
Yeah! Iâd want it for cruisers too
Probably tomorrow idk
Nah itâs all good, I wasnât super clear about it
I wonder battotai will be inclued
included*
It would be insane if that would be preorder bonus
Because i would want it
They didnât do a pre-order song or like any marches. Yeah 2 songs are titled march, but are they based on historical songs? Doesnât have the same weight as the Soviet, Polish or German ones
Damn battotai would be perfect
@cobalt summit
Yeah, I think they played it safe by not doing marches for China/Japan. But itâs still a solid soundtrack
Just wonât be as special as NSBâs
There's a Polish song?
Eastern music pack I think
Really good song, both the HOI4 instrumental and actual one with lyrics
Yeah I know, they taught me it in school
I'll listen to the hoi 4 one
To see how it sounds
Itâs doesnât have the same weight but is very refreshing to hear in game
In moldova
I wouldn't advise preordering any paradox product honestly.
And I've been buying them since almost 10 years
Yeah I'm prob gonna wait until the release date before I actually decide whether I actually want to get the expansion
I must admit
this is the best sound track
of any update
What does this mean đ đ
Some warlords donât have a generic warlord path
And just a generic path instead
E frate roman
Im guessingitâs explained weird
Desigur frate đˇđ´ â¤ď¸ đ˛đŠ
any new leaks about the DLC?
nope
im lwk hyped for japan
Guys they are removing burgundy from TNO đ
TNO patched all fun out the mod
âItâs not realistic guysâ
Like kaisereich but most of the peopele play now Kaiserredux
bro what
The devs for mods are so anti fun itâs insane
Like when I open HOI4 mods I am not looking for the most accurate depiction in the world just for it to be reasonable and fun
Basically warlords have different goals. Maâs can unite, Sinkiang can align Soviets. Etc
They basically all have a similar warlord tree. Itâs just that they also get extra targeted stuff
We only really know about Sinkiang and the Maâs atm
But I think they basically have short term goals to unite parts of China before going for the main title
I know that
I read all the diaries
All I wanted to know
if stuff like Shandong
or Hebei Char
both bordering japan get content
maybe with the goal of holdin out
Hebai char only potrait but they shown they have noting really unique
I think shangdong does but hebei does not
sitchuan gets somethig
shanxi is one of the "big 5" i think they get content
Shanxi and Shandong
are the interesting ones
the south li Zongen gets aso Unique stuff like long yun yunnan i hope
