Like your enemy would randomly flip to Allie’s. Or the allies would somehow puppet you without war. Or you’d get flat out annexed by one of the other countries

Paradox is perhaps the most prolific "history game" developer out there -- but are history games actually history? And how does Paradox Interactive approach touchy subjects in a commercial product? This video examines the recent Götterdammerüng DLC, dif...
paradox games obviously cant
Fredda mentioned 🤢
they are a sandbox game
same goes for most historical Total wars except Attila
because that one is more on rails
and is a survival game
espically as the Western Roman and Eastern Roman Empires
Victoria 3 is about colonization, slavery and war crimes
so is Empire total war
and Rome I and II total war
and Attila
given how you can sack, colonize and enslave settlements
yeah and you can raze whole settlements in Attila and leave them unhabitial
and you do have a choice
Hoi4 is different
Ok leftist
then why do you like Fredda
I abosulutely despise the man as he is creeping more towards leftist authotarism
He says that talking about the Circassian issue but not about the plans the Nazis had about the local populace, especially the Jews (with Japan having the Chinese)
because it would get pulled from shelves
haven't played
but what I was trying to say was Attila has warcrimes in it too
like its the ONLY total war game to have civilians in the streets of settlement battles
the thing is that the events are more relatively recent and personal
thats whataboutism
there are mods for the game where they remind you that you are indeed playing the villain and punishes you for it, especially as Japan and Germany
okay then why does Rome not count even though they killed 1/3 and enslaved antoher 1/3 of the Gallic population in Gaul
but Victoria III and EU4 count because of colonialism
so is Caesars conquest of Gaul
France was created out of it
thats why French is a Latin language
Brutal Occupation resistance law is closest thing to them being the bad guy
No war crimes allowed
Romes destruction of Carthage pretty much guartenned that they would be the domiant in the West
Absolutely
which still affects us 1900 years later
They actually had to rename a Japanese focus in the dev diary because of the meaning behind it
to say that anceint history has no bearing on the modern day is gross ignorance
Boom, butterfly effect
example: Islam wouldn't have been a major religion if the Rashidun Caliphate lost at Yarmouk in 638 AD
Example: Alexander the Great consumed too much alcohol and died instantly
Pesky liver failure due to excessive drinking over the years
good one that destabilized the East and inadverently led to Rome and Parthia filling the power vacuum centuries later
as the Seleucids and Ptolemies were busy fighting each other over Syria and Palestine constantly
thus weakening them
the problem is that not having the Nazis being hardcoded as the villains would lead to impressionable people who haven't learned history to perceive Nazi Germany as a symbol of power
(despite the fact that Hitler himself was just as irrational of a politician as Stalin)
same goes for the USSR, Italy and Communist China
the thing is that Germany started the war
USSR invaded the Baltics and Finland who were neutral
that was after the invasion of Poland
true but the USSR signed a deal with Germany agreeing to split land between them before WWII
and they did invade Poland on September 19th onwards too
also Japan asked Germany to help them fight the USSR right when the Molotov Ribbentrop pact was being signed as Kalkhin gol was going on
Germany said no
History isn't about things that just happened but also WHY they happened
true the reason Stalin wanted the Baltics was because of Russian Imperialism
in the Russian quest to get a warm water port which has intsensefied since 2014 again
but enough on that as I don't want to violate rule 2
also, was for the Soviets to get into a more favorable position before Barbarossa hit
had they not done so, They would've been overwhelemed easier
Germany couldn't have defeated the USSR TBH
even if they took Moscow they would have stalled and been pushed back
Germany would have to get past the Urals
which is impossible given how stretched their supply lines would be
given how worn out the panzer divisions in late 1941 were
the Ghost division or the 7th Panzer division was at less than 20% strength in December 1941 for example
perhaps because ww2 is recent history
and are made by different teams
and vic 3 does not do history well lol
just because they let u do a genacide doesnt mean they did history
nor does EU4
given how Spain and Portugal will usually colonize Australia
ew bice
It’s goated wdym
i wish we will get this mechanic someday
idk how to explain this but i think the nazis might be the single most hardcoded villains in media ever
like
theyre never even told any stories from their own perspectives
if you wanna complain about someone not being potrayed as the bad guy you should be talking about literally every other major except maybe the ussr
the Last Tiger Battlefield V is the only one I can think of
but other than that the Nazis are portrayed as villans as they should be
we only know that now though tbf
like to anyone who was observing or even part of the war effort at the time it wouldve seemed like a very close fight
not even bice
average bice hater
doesnt even look similar to it
downfall movie
usa fr lured them in but at what cost
Kansas
k so lick my nuts
Parker?
Alf landon ain’t gonna like this
No, I am not John Parker
I did help with his charity thing though
I'd recognize that stickman anywhere.
His stickman is green
Lmao
hey guys
do you think indochina will be updated with Hearts of Iron IV: Thunder at our Gates?
look at this cool idea
if not with the japan DLC
even if it will not be like congo or burma but atleast with updated states
what do you think?
I really hope paradox will update it to be more accurate
Tbh I think they added the shared Congo tree so Belgium can do something while in exile😅
But yes updated states would be needed
I mean Cambodia and Laos are one state
So they would need to be separated so Siam can carve it up
As for these two, maybe we can go with the Raj option where you either play as India or Pakistan when you do the split
This time, playing as Laos or Cambodia
When will publish China developer dairy
With all due respect
Probably sometime from Tuesday to Thursday
Hopefully
And he will be
I wonder after that focus will the prime minister be through events until you form the taisei yokunsankai
ther better be historical nuke events leading to the end of the war
Chat
What are we thinking will the next diary be about
Im thinking either nat. china or commie china
Probably roc
They’ve barely said anything about roc so it must be juicy
🇨🇳 🇨🇳 🇨🇳
Sorry I took a shit kek
the reason I think its commie china is
For one
in the DLC its mentioned first
and 2
in the dev corner they started with Comme China first
then nat. china
I mean its kinda more interesting to play
Minor to major
yes
Im so hyped
for the guerilla warfare
Plus I got the Expansion Pass
B)
Wait a second
I just realized something
HOLD THE PHONE
Reading the old china dev diary
Guerilla units?
How would guerilla units work exactly though that’s the questions
Those might be irregular units with new icon
Yes
thats what I mean
We never got that btw, they just lied to us
Wdym
Yeah upcoming dev diary
Well
Yyeah
ah
I forgot they differenciate
between this
and dev diaries
"dev corners"
Just looks like a weaker division with a different icon
If the main is a 12 width division, this might be an 8 width
the icon is unique
I assume it will be a different version of an irregular
militia
Yeah, so was many others in other updates
You got the sigma icon in ToA
Eastern Island head too
No new unit types
Just because they added new icons for divisions doesn't mean new units
Spain has like 5 different icons for their civil war and all they use are varying types of infantry
I do wonder, regarding the doctrine rework, if the devs have scrapped the idea of Batallion Modifiers
As of right now each doctrine would change how a batallion works a bit (People's army gives extra suppression to cavalry on military police)
We did not see any such thing appear on the new system as of know afaik
Maybe they're hiding them behind the "operational" tracks instead of the other ones?
What dev diaries can we expect this week I was sad only one last week
Machuckuo I hope
We cant be sure
but my hope lays on china
maybe commie china
or maybe a feature like factions
One a week is normal, has been for years.
But I don’t think any of us know really. They haven’t given diary schedules
gotterdamurung was a five week schedule
and i think GOE has some diaries in the same week
but one dairy per week is fine
Wonder what tuesdays will be ….
hopefully factions
shouldn't indonesia be with like siam and malaya in a goe or toa type expansion
That's why it's a curveball
It's with Siam and Australia in a DoD type expansion (basically focus pack with minor features)
oh
no malaya content ever?
They didn't confirm Malaya, all they confirmed for the DLC after this one was Siam, Australia, and Indonesia
And military hqs
And ship captains
japan should get an imperial federation like focus for its asian puppets
Malaya will probably get something eventually but we don’t know if it will come in the thunder at our gates
how do they hide?
dont guerilla units need to be able to hide
Nuh
How does the game hide division counts and compositions from the player?
I want region rework for french indochina
tomorrow diary?
ain't no way I found an TI player here
peak meets peak i saw a hoi 4 meme on the isle discord
hmmm.... Chak feeling spicy today, I wonder what this is....
communist japan lore

PUSSR
make it ykw someway please
A little part of other alternate ways, you can see on steam 😂
China?
Looks like commie jap tbh
cool but only the warlords count in my heart :p
Where is the new warlord content william
wait
does this mean tmrw's dev diary will be non historical Japan instead of China?
I hope Tan Malaka can be of use in this path too
"You (Philippines) gets Tan Malaka, you (Japan) gets Tan Malaka, everyone gets Tan Malaka!!!"
We really need a focustree for Chechen-Ingush Republic 🙏🙏🙏
Add that Chechnya can be released 🥲
They said that they will be giving alt Japan
so over
@hollow lion all channels
When france rework
communist empire of red sun?
no way
korea, palau, not sure what the left flag is
WHEN UK AND USA REWORK???
if it ever come in a single seasons pass i would sell my soul
TO
PARADOX
and my [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]
you don't want it to
because that means one will be gotterdammerung quality and the other will be goe quality
Looks kinda like fiji/micronesia
It says Pacific Union but it shows all of Asia
My guess is that its a copied focus image from China, and China can Form an United Communist Asia maybe
conquer the holy
idk cant read lower
holy is also doubtful but it ends with y looking at the screenshot
promote the revolution
Casey you need new glasses 😭😭
i dont have glasses wdym
well first word starts with c
pretty clearly
with a the in the middle
it definitely says conquer the ---y
------------------------
chinese manchurian railway?
HOI4 needs a ps5 version
Probably
Just a reclaiming focus for everything that breaks free during civil wat id say
We really Need an Chechnya update
Nah we need abkhazia focus tree
Why?
Its just funny to play small nations
But its part of ussr
And Chechnya is a very small nation but very old
There should be possibility to make it free
Still wont give focus tree same as saying moldova and ex soviet states should get focus
Why did Afghanistan get one ?
Because it existed in 1936?
even in early 1900s
or it might work like kurdistan in irak even tho kurdistan didnt exist as a state in 1936
As early as 1747 *
Yeah
Like kurdistan in GoE
that might work
The germans wanted to free Chechnya and worked with them
hmmm
Unternehmen Shamil
Is a German Operation to get to Chechnya and meet up with the chechens
This is the Wikipedia text
maybe conquer the railway?
oop
im stupid i didnt know u solved it
Prolly some modifier
Maybe a new rail line after taking the rail
70 day focus for 2 level 1 railways 🔥
Prolly research bonus for rail
The first focus for Chechenya should force you to take a shower
I think it means "Mobilize the Proletariat," but I could be wrong
Uniting all of Asia is insane
I mean, so would be, say, uniting all of the Balkans and getting cores on it
But Bulgaria gets the Balkan Federation path
I mean both sun yat sen and the Japanese promoted pan asianism so maybe it wouldn’t that implausible
Today dev diary of?
Thanks 🙏
Honestly, hoped we'd get china tbh
That makes sense
what time
uniting all of europe is insane
Uniting all south america is insane
uniting all of africa is insane
Uniting all of earth is insane
I hope there is a good democratic path 🙂
Ewww democracy?
who plays democracy anyways?
Will there be a video about this on YouTube?
I do sometimes
Some democratic paths are decent
A LOT of people
what time is thing
1h approx.
It will come out at some point
oooh i can see how many alt history games are gonna be super convoluted
yeah it’s a historical thing iirc, a lot of Japanese people wrote about Poland in the inter war era
looks like only from the Soviet Union though and not Germany
which makes sense IG
no yeah it definitely makes sense
i was looking forward to something added related to the Japanese and polish people
very cool
they can create their own faction now too
the Japanese Sphere
also the Kodha path can be fascist as well
which is accurate given how ultranationalist the Kodha faction was
Al you never responded to when i should do the war smh,,,
Inner mongolia fighting japan
do what suits you best
Idk
So,facist kodoha gameplay is... historical Japan.
semi historical because its a different faction
also anti soviet pact with Poland and an alliance with Germany options which are mutually exclusive
China map
5 democratic leaders it appears too
Is it just me or does Democractic Japan seem like the most powerful path at this point?
Being able to peacefully expand and core all of Asia is OP
that depends if the AI accepts you or not
Indeed, but that's mostly going to come down to like army strength, opinion and diplomatic pressure isn't it?
probably
iirc it said Non-aligned and Democratic, which is most of Asia at that point
but its going to be intresting to see what happens on nonhist
Oh yeah, absolutely!
I'm curious if KMT China will get a fascist path for the Blue Shirt movement
For the time being it's the Philippines and Japan thst is covered by this point
A bit odd how the Philippines flag overlays the Information chart.
I think that guy is a Japanese puppet
judging by his name
Wait, Philippines was covered?
It's a bug of our current UI. We needed to expand the selectable nations field, but have not yet made the final version of that. Either that, or the Philippines is just encrouching on the Japanese 😛
No, Philippines have not had their Dev Diary yet
that'll be quite handy for modders too I think
Ah, okay.
Ooo
I did just read the dev diary and it was okay. I always get a little bit sad when a communist path can't join the comintern tbh. in the Dev Diary it was said that's because Japanese commies didn't really vibe with Stalin, but does that mean if Stalin is overthrown it could be possible? Also, I assume that means if Japan is puppeted by Stalin the leader of the communists would change?
I really hope for this
flavour is always nice. and I'm sure some Stalinist Japanese guy must have existed even if it wasn't necessarily popular with the party at large
perhaps some NKVD shenanigans could've gotten him in charge...
or her!
could also synergise well with the Bolshevik faction of Communist China
Something tells me this new Japanese communist tree has the potential to become the best of the alt history trees
It’s giving me huge “glorious revolution” vibes
I’m very excited to see it, and excited to see how much challenge this 3 way civil war could be

What’s your take friend
I’m still interested to see what small things they do to Manchuria
And I’m still waiting for the nationalist and communist Chinese trees most of all
my concern is that it's essentially functionally the same as the fascist trees except you have to fight a three way civil war first
a tree should have an actual gameplay reason to be played, outside of roleplay
I mean, in a sense, that’s not terrible imo, but what would you do instead?
there should be a functional advantage
this is why I think a comintern path would have been ideal
Not a fan of the overly wacky stuff like "The pacific union", I do like flavor and having more then 1 path of ideology to choose but ultimately what I care is about how this will interact witj China
sure you have to fight a difficult civil war, but then big daddy Soviet Union can build you back up and then help you """liberate""" china
that's my take
True. Honestly just most excited to see how. China is done in general, China is probably my most played and favorite nation in the game to play. I love a good defensive nation that snowballs
I've coded my fair share of focus trees (I'm a modder) and one of the hardest- but most important- things is making sure there are functional reasons to choose all the different paths that aren't just to do with roleplay and vibes
I can see the value in having one, but most Comintern paths feel so samey tbh, that’s probably just the reality of the concept tho, and my monkey brain wanting more variety
Knowing myself I’m going to play Shogunate Japan
how does fighting a three way civil war make me better off in my campaign? In the democratic tree, you can join the Allies, which in of itself makes it worth it
I see it as fun for the challenge
but in the communist tree you just form your own power bloc, just like in the fascist ones. the only obvious functional difference to me is that in the fascist paths you don't have a civil war
But I am probably the minority there
maybe, but usually when I consider doing 'challenge paths' it's a subsection of a larger path rather than the entire path on its own
but that's a philosophy issue, really
Fair fair
Just swap out Japan for Germany and communist for Kaiser and you have imperial Germany path
except the Imperial Germany paths have very valid functional advantages
True
depending on playstyle you can be objectively better off doing Imperial
4 separate diplomacy options
Imperial Germany is one of the most broken paths in the entire game, being able for form the EU and just become a completely unstoppable nation
Fun, but perhaps too easy
Try it without the eu
Like do brest litovsk
yeah Imp. Germany probably goes too far the other way 😂
It’s not Hist Germany is the strongest
And our place in the sun
Imperial Germany is only good relative to other German tree
Historical Germany can’t core a third of the Eurasian continent
Why would I need to core a third of europe 😂
When I killed everyone one in 39
yeah to be fair you don't really need the cores
I don’t
I see you must be a far better player than me
Way better player than me lol
I just set up Ukraine, Belarus, baltic and Transcaucasia
And Brittany, Scotland, Flanders and Wales
I usually balkanize France
And Russia
you can core some states in Russia if you use the Reichskommisariat system instead
I mentioned that
which I personally really love using but I understand it's kinda neglected by most players
With the eastern satellite states
Ain’t that just 1 state, Volga Germany?
who cares about Volga Germany
Me, a nerd
when I get cores on Plock, Lodz and Biastok
I do actually because I can build an airport there and then my Amerikabombers reach Japan
I just did an insane hist Germany achievement run so it's very fresh in my miind
I can have a puppet Russia and do the same
incidentally it's how I learnt that the Head Von Neurath's Concerns tree is actually very very fun
100% agreed
obviously the problem is a lot of the sources are only in Russian or sometimes Serbian
Some where in Manchuria too
oh yeah Japanese/Chinese too I guess
Mainly Serbia, Manchuria and France
one of my reenactment buddies wants to do a White Russian in the Kwantung Army
“Shut up nerd, o have no concern for long term planning, just fight with reckless abandon, it’s gonna work out, I am a god in this simulation”
takes a fat hit from my crack pipe
Niche I like it
well it's mostly because he just wants to do IJA but obviously needs a reason as to why a pasty white guy is there 😂
I did it just to use espionage to get Why Die For Danzig but found out if you go all in on spies you can have an insane run as Germany
Makes sense
Spies are probably the most underwhelming and yet underutilized thing in the game depending on the country and scenario
yeah I gotta try Head Von Neurath's Concerns
usually I can never do world conquests because my PC kinda sucks and it really starts chugging by the time I'm ready to prepare an invasion of USA. But thanks to the bonuses from Neurath I was actually able to stage a coup in the USA really easily then just invited the fascist side of the civil war to the Axis
managed to finally get New World Order cus of that
Oh man, that’s something I can’t wait for when I get a new computer here in the next couple months, imma be putting that MacBook pro’s processor to the ultimate test as imma be doing a ton of absurdist challenge runs.
I love going for what I call “Maximum _” Runs, where I choose the paths and fudge the decisions in a way to achieve the maximum cores I can get. I am particularly gonna be excited to try a very late game Argentina as I take over half the americas and return to Germany lol
Most of all excited to try out and finally learn in detail how naval mechanics work
I only bother with the basics, but what I’ve seen of these new naval reworks got me very excited, seems they are kinda killing the death stack
yeah I never figured out navy
I do what I call the pirate strat which is just invade other countries and steal their navies lol
Once I really think I’ve mastered navy, imma do an Ethiopia world conquest lmao
hopefully this upcoming update will make it more clear
The thing about navy is that there is no need to master or figure it out
Thats why navy is broken and no one feels the need to learn it
Yeah, absolutely true
You can just steal, boomstack ships or spam light attack cruisers
No need to figure anything else out
Sub spam is still king to this day, even building old shit subs can make a dent
still no where near as satisfying as this
Fleet subs, and if your really in deep, nuclear subs, are just unstoppable
Navy in the game is also a bit frustrating because its an all or nothing fight that you just basically roll the dice on and hope for the best ahah
If the UK were to reinforce that fleet mid battle with a huge stack it could have wiped out an entire decade of ship building
I’m most excited because of the supply and island rework
Having to actually seemingly set up historical sized fleets instead of the death stack
I mean wasn't that kind of how it was historically? at least in the Med and the Atlantic. I know Pacific was a bit different cus of how large it was. but naval battles typically are kind of decisive and "all or nothing"
I didn't say it was unrealistic
Spending an entire game building ships only for them to be wiped clean in 3 days is hard
Thats why most people dont bother with navy
I sure know it's why I don't
but how can have a grinding and dynamic naval war? the closest thing we have in the genre is old school naval rts.
If you figure that out you can become the next hoi4 dev :p
this is the oversimplification of the century, but it should be rock paper scissors. battleships counter destroyers, destroyers counter submarines, suubmarines counter battleships. and aircraft carriers just magnify the countering effects of all of them.
obviously it would be way more detailed and intuitive and interesting than that but I am about four beers in so I cba to get into details
Navy is fun
Building superheavies and cruisers and evaporate the UK navy
Release them saying "sail, my pretties" and gunning down the US navy
I have never played Japan in vanilla, but I am excited for the rework so I can play it immersively
It don't change the fact that you fleet can be evaporated in 1 battle, and your fleet will spend most of their time sitting in dock
I wonder how much longer it will be until we see the Chinese tree, I’m hoping everyone gets to do some real deal one China irredentism and go after Outer Manchuria, parts of Central Asia, Mongolia, Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, northern Vietnam, etc etc etc
Infact, I wonder if all of this will bestow any new VPs and states in Siberia, been too long since an update gave the Soviets a buff to its state count lol
I was sad when AAT didn’t split eastern Karelia and the kola peninsula
Next week I think
So hype if we do
China more than anything is my most anticipated of the new DLC, any of them but especially nationalist China
I wouldn’t say in the Atlantic think about the battle of the river plate or the sinking of the bismark or even the Norway campaign but that isn’t considered the Atlantic ig for the last one
I hope China gives the same vibes as the Soviet Union, where as long as you are able to survive and thrive you just continue to snowball far into the late game, becoming an industrial powerhouse to rival the Soviets and Americans
I want that feeling of a bottomless industrial base, but one that I gotta really work for and build towards
Where are Tokuda and Katayama?
Dev diary looks legit
The battle of river plate just had a battleship against three cruisers
Naturally, it didn't result in 300 boats under the water
Yeah what I mean is it isn’t like hoi4 an all in one battle
while this asian eu thing sounds interesting, it kinda sounds very unrealistic
It naturally depends on the number of boats involved
You choose to deathstack
You don't have to
It’s the only viable navy option
No it isn't? You can have your smaller fleets with 20 destroyers, 5 cruisers and a battleship
then it dies
the most viable option for navy is to stack it (apart from subs) into 1 fleet
That sounds like a skill issue
European union would be considered unrealistic in 1914 to be fair though
i mean at least it was a proposed idea
True
lots of formables are on the context that it was proposed at one point, like antilles and latin africa
but when was ever an asian eu ever proposed
with decent templates, you can easily sink anything
never, but I believe it is an attempt at Japanese panasianist ambitions
Thats what I thought
Not really unless you wait ages because building a navy takes so long
albeit through a democratic way rather than how it was historically attempted
at least thats something
theres also a asian ussr
it does too, in real life. if you aren't playing a country with a decent navy or appropriate infrastructure, how do you expect to get a big navy in a year?
okay there are some advisors for pan-asianist
it obviously require some investment
i mean basically imperial federation of uk ife they do franco-british union and core all of south america through spain, portugal, brazil, and chile
but thats like 1 in a million
but for example, as Germany, I find it much more fun to invest in dockyards and an actual navy rather than having a 500 divisions army
it also gives you actually a shot to killing the uk without cheesing
Even if you build a dockyards anything like super heavy’s take years to build as you can only assign like 5 dockyards max
And if you split your fleet even if you do invest in it your navy will just die
Especially if it’s mp
yeah, and I love superheavies, but they are intended to be a few at most
in mp, maybe. in singleplayer not at all if you know what you are doing
China is next week let’s gooo
You can just use navs to kill the uk fleet as well and it’s easier but naval larp can be fun just not viable
if your destroyers are a bit robust they should resist anything the AI throws at you
Oceania would be going Communist as the UK and doing the Imperial Federation
(And annexing the US and Southern Africa up to Brazzaville)
Getting cores on all of Asia in wild lol. I mean anarchist Spain can technically do it too.
Wish Africa had a quicker/easier way to unite its continent
Literally Eastasia from 1984 though
How do you know?
I like how Korea and Japan have more states
Me every time new states and victory points get added to the game like

It’s legit a good thing lol. The US needs like double the states it has
Late game, I like building supply hubs and linking rail lines across all my vps, especially as the Soviet Union, Africa, or in South America. Makes it feel like I’m really industrializing a place when I take it from that dark purple 0 supply hell to that bright green full supply paradise
Same
The mechanic for Japanese states to change type depending on infrastructure level is really cool
Even not late game, I try to design any mid-war supply line buildups around existing victory points, fun little roleplay thing
Yeah I wish they would take this concept and expand it to all countries
Wonder if state category impacts coal/energy usage
Like maybe will be worth leaving some states at lower infrastructure
I believe it is related to the number of building slots
The pastoral region thing
So technically doing this upgrade would increase production cost
Yeah the higher level the state, the more building slots it gets before adding in industrial research and bonus slots
If state category upgraded, could potentially add building slots which as increases coal usage
Well, yes, I suppose. But I am not sure what buildings use coal
We don't know if refineries and such use it
I believe all factories civilian and military
What about dockyards?
I’m pretty interested to see how much a factor coal ends up being, will it be another thing to think about, like the consumer goods rework, or will it be as fundamental as the fuel rework back in Man The Guns?
It is supposed to be a new resource, so pretty big actually
Will coal usage be higher in winter? Who knows 😂
Said so in the Japan video
So if you don’t have enough coal. It legit lowers your factory output
I wanna know how much a factor building civilian reactors will be in coal consumption
I love tinkering with civilian reactors
I think they said 15-25% negation of energy usage in the state it’s built in
So if you build one in every state you use 25% less
Hmmm, so anywhere between negligible to extremely substantial
Which could be the difference of 75% factory output and 100% output
Depends on the state
Dams will also impact
As I saw, which is hype
Yeah, don't build it in Khartoum
Don’t tell me what to do with my late game Ethiopia
But in states like Lombardy or rheinland...
New York and California
Late game Ethiopia
Why
Because it’s fun
Wonder if a hidden path will connect with this
Does feel like it would be
What would this imply for Japan?
Akihito secret path?
Tbh I’m not sure. They cover a fair bit. Unless it just becomes like a military council
Who was 3 at the time of the start of the game
Tbh, what secret paths would there even be the potential for? I feel like there isn’t much to do
Maybe I just don’t know enough about Japanese history, but I feel like most “secret” paths wouldn’t surmount to much more than something like the secret finland monarchist focus
Spanish Phillipines, MacArthur Phillipines, Shogunate Military Council Japan
Communist China led by Puyi
(Post prison, once Civ)
What would a shogunate Japan look like tho
That would go hard as shit
Similar to Germanys Military path
Like basically just monarchy but with extra military buffs
I’m guessing there will be one similar to Eva Brauns or Strassers
Spanish Philippines is very stupid (as a Spanish)
Watch it just be like what if Fascism existed in Japan after it got removed
Yeah I see no point in a Spanish Philippines, unless we are doing a funny Philippine version of the sunrise invasion
Paradox devs sweating at this response 😂
Pretty sure Mongolia gets a formable. So could be connected to that
MacArthur Philippines has funny potential, “give me 10k Filipino soldiers and I’ll take over the world”
How are you actually doing it? Do you become a Spanish puppet? What's the point
Nvm just reread the diary and the dev responses said no Spain path
Good tbh lol
Some historical flavour about it could be given, though. If you are playing Francoist Spain, give a decision to send a diplomatic protest to Japan when declaring on the Philippines
Which happened historically
I would’ve moreso guessed some Catholic crusade in Asia tbh
I feel like their would be one for manchuko where it’s Puyis wife or concubine as leader
Or even Hirohitos wife if he dies in a bombing
Idk
It could be fun if you could demand as Spain a white peace or it joins the Allies if not in a faction (only allowed for players, though)
It was a thing Franco considered when he saw the writing in the wall about the future of Germany
I’d be shocked if such a thing wasn’t part of the faction rework
Did they show an option on the historical dev diary where you can do a scripted peace deal or am I tweaking?
With the soviets*
I think that would involve a faction rework overview tbh
You know, I wonder how those focuses to claim thrones and stuff from last week’s diary will work in the game. Will it be like how Vittorio Emanuel gets more and more traits? Will you be able to get cores in the Himalayas?
I imagine like the Swedish one where he just gets traits
Japan-Soviets? Yeah, so you don't have to get to Minsk from Vladivostok
The great Japan focus has been confirmed to give cores in Hawaii and Guam at least
Idk if Korea and Taiwan too (it would make sense)
Hope there’s one that works with the allies so I don’t need to do a London invasion
I mean, if you conquer all of the Raj east it should white peace you, what is the point after that
You know, I remember back in the day it was easier to destroy the Soviet Union from Vladivostok, the Soviet AI just did nothing to defend it back before NSB, all you had to do was plop an army or 3 in Siberia and focus your entire industry on infrastructure construction lol
Didn’t they want all of India?
Pre NSB Russia was a pushover in general
True
Kinda worried that every path Japan has comes into conflict with the Soviets
I feel old knowing I remember when waking the tiger death or dishonor and together for victory came out
I guess it could be like the new order thing, which basically cores for sure the Polish territories but could potentially core part of Switzerland, Italy, Yugoslavia, and Denmark
Depending on whether you hold it or not
I remember waking the tiger dropping, I bought hoi4 way back on Black Friday 2017
Watch it be this
Just think of the larp
“I was there when Horus slew the Emperor” ah quote
I am going to play Japan and play the bad guy
I will be happy if they add a Japanese puppet state for east Turkestan with that weirdo ottoman royal in charge
Honestly surprised many of the Japanese paths aren’t more about puppeting
The democratic one should’ve just been collabs or something
Bigger than the kaiserreich larp in GDR
Happy it wasn’t called the United States or Asia atleast
Honestly, if we had a path for every mid-20th century schizo weirdo we wouldn't get any serious content
I have larped A LOT as Germany since Gotterdammerung
I don’t want a path, just a button click formable like the reichskomassariats
What if we did Killpeopleism again but better?
That narrative makes the denazification focus seem like a joke xd
I’m assuming you’ll either get to make a United Chinese puppet or make it warlords while you take certain part
I had to mod in this image bc vanilla strasser looks terrible
Bro looks like a Skaven
He looks like the home along guy
Maybe give Manchuko bejing
Would Japan allow China to be united in a single government that could potentially outpace them industrially?
The Kaiserreich dilemma, once again
Would Moreso be fragmented
Wonder how the Soviet invasion of Manchuria will work on historical
Yeah, but you know, China long divided must unite
It’d be cool if it was united China got a big debuff making a war debt to just ruin consumer goods and factory/resources just gets a stolen
By the way, I hope Ma Zhongying is available somehow
I know that they aren't touching a lot of the warlords, but one man can dream
Time to get any Chinese achievement done now
would love for to have there to been a theocracy non aligned path as a third option for monarchy, could be cool lmao
its so mid that they arent doing cool warlord content, hopefully they all get some sort of unqiue focuses (even if its like the paraguay urugauy situation where they have loads of shared content but a bit of unique flavour)
Maybe there will be some additions
Do you think there will be an achievement where you have to play as Zhang Xueliang and take manchuko
3 sided civil war...
Yeah they showed it in the video
IMO doesn’t seem like it’ll be that difficult since you get the south
Zhang Xueliang republican path for Manchuria would be great
Available either if Japan collapses into a civil war or if Manchuria wins the independence war
Then you can either try to reunify China by claiming the mandate of heaven as Puyi or bringing back the Fengtian clique as Zhang
And form the Beiyang government
Who tf made those generals
Paradox
more intresting than vanilla tbh
ATM
reminds of Germany's old civil war in RT56
His wife was an opioid addict
left looks superior to right, also someone gotta redo the aksel larsen one too
idk why this reminds me of the mayor of whosville from the grinch 💀
<@&846894118219022336>
rt56 one is better, das all i gotta say
(credit to reddit user who posted that, communist that's anti communist 😏)
New Korean states would make it hard to create the DPRK-ROK borders
Especially if Pyongyang and Seoul are in the same state
Oof, yeah didn't even notice that
But it looks to me like Seoul is a relatively small round state separate of the Pyongyang one
That’s rough what the heck
Imagine playing hearts of iron 4 and living in Ireland just to realize that your country is never getting a focus tree 💀
UK could use some revision, you never know who they might include when they do that
Am I the only one who thinks the G in genius should be capitalized for grammar purposes?
Not for grammar, although many titles in HOI IV capitilize almost every word
it is proper grammar to capitalize all words in titles? besides connecting words like of, the or and
i dont get why its isnt the border for the 49th parallel
thats not the border even now though
it was only the border for all of like 5 years
dont think it matters either since dprk isnt even a tag iirc and the game doesnt plan to go any farther then 1945 in scope
i mean its just using modern borders fo a game thats based in ww2 while technically the end date is before the korean war in 1949
i mean yeah but then in goe you already have things for like independence in india and them able to conquer goa
independance in india is an alt hist thing though
that very well couldve happened earlier
or brazil being to make brasillia
i really dont see a timeline where north and south korea exist the way they did
where japan is still around
and the second world war is still ongoing or hasnt happened yet
im talking about post war
yea but the game doesnt go into that
they are definetly leaning into that
like
especially with this approach of demilitirizing with the new energy system to make ai get rid of divisions
north and south korea were artificial puppets of the usa and ussr in the power void left after japans surrender in east asia
theres literally no way they can both exist unless japan is dead
so is east and west germany
and that exists
yalta conference
because they were made before the end of the second world war
event makes them after war ends
yet west germany was made in 1949 post war would just be occupation zones
its not occupation zones?
like realistically for india in its historical route you have focuses until like 1947 or 48 with the amount of them
im talking about germany occupation zones
yes through yalta conference event
although it is broken
is next dev diary on thurs or next week
We got no clue just keep an eye on the twitter
In my last game as PRC, Soviet Zone (Soviet puppet) got gobbled up by FGR instead
interesting
my games rarely ever last to 1945
usually i quit them by 1942 or 43
i always get surprised by the stuff that happens once ww2 begins to simmer down\
I hope that both Nationalist China and Communist China have a similar amount of characters to the ones shown off for Japan.
Late, but judging by the name of the warlord state that now controls Xi’an he has his own warlord state.
It’s called the northeastern army so probably an roc puppet
Honestly it probably will be around the same amount
Yes. I know. According to a quick google search Zhang Xueliang was in charge of the Northeastern Army.
I also noticed that southern xinjiang is called khotan ma
Very excited to ally with the triads to get my generals their opium fix.
That isn’t a joke btw. One of the characters for China show in the Faces of [REDACTED] dev corner was a gangster.
Please elaborate
Interesting
how do i annex austro hungarian czechoslovakia
depends if you are playing as austria or hungary
okay i am focusing
New pfp
hi furry
Make the next one a uhhh
Sim
So they can be made by Soviets puppeting the north and US puppeting the south
Do you think the USA will be able to unite just North America or all of the Americas when it gets reworked?
a socialist republic of America? maybe. Fascist America? I am not sure
I can see both being a thing
Hopefully not tbh
Needs more flavor than just "core the entire continent"
There are so many interesting possibilities for the us tbh
Communist ones are usually meh, all the same most of the time tbh
But for non aligned/fascist there can be lots of interesting stuff
Maybe the us breaking up in more parts that do not necessarily have to be at war?
And as the non aligned confederates having a branch to form the golden circle annexing mexico and the carraibeans or
All of the Americas is only like 300 mil manpower, meanwhile a unified Europe has 500 mil + and a unified Asia will have 1 bil +
Or creating an american empire, uniting the anglophere under your banner
It's not about that honestly, it's more that for example look at south smerica, 3 countries got focus trees, all 3 have the same end goal, to core all of south america for almost every path, it's boring
This would be cool
I mean having the option to unite the americas isn't a problem but I'd like to have other options as well
Chile was pretty unique imo but yeah apart from Uruguay and Paraguay; Argentina and Brazil were similar. Though imo still unique
Or even to conquer Africa as the confederates
Oh no.....
As if Spain, England and Portugal can’t reconquer colonial possessions
Honestly that be interesting but I know that that'd be too controversial
When they also committed atrocities there lol
Yes but this is more recent
And Spanish Empire taking back all of its possessions wasn’t?
So yk hisnit be
The UK literally stills has colonies 😭
UK colonialism “ended” much more recently
Yes I agree with your sentiment
But looking at things yk that this would be way more controversial
How so? Germany can basically puppet the world, Japan can unify asia, and the UK can reclaim all its former puppets
But yeah, maybe creating a puppet state in africa as the confederates under american administration would be interesting
USA should have an immortal FDR path like nuclear Gandhi or no appeasement UK where he forms the UN and does a world conquest
Confederacy getting war goals on parts of Africa is not more controversial than Nazi Germany puppeting earth, please
You underestimate the ability of some people to get offended
USA should be able to do a world conquest as a democracy somehow in its rework
CSA absolutely would take parts of Africa along with the Americas
Anyways,
I’m not done talking about that so I will continue to 😂
I'd like to see a fascist path separate from the confederate path that should be non aligned
Golden Circle with aims on securing North America and Western Africa would be neat. Commie USA I think would core North America but knowing paradox all of the Americas. Would be neat to have like a monarchist path
The Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) was a secret society founded in 1854 by American George W. L. Bickley, the objective of which was to create a new country known as the Golden Circle (Spanish: Círculo Dorado), where slavery would be legal. The country's "circle" – of 16 degrees radius, about 2,400 miles (3,900 km) in diameter – would h...
Hopefully the devs consider this
Logically would still have the rest of the USA
Not in a scenario where the us breaks up into 4-5 states not at war with each other
Maybe a scenario if the us break up canada can take some parts of the us
Idk why that would remotely happen tbh
Or maybe even a civil war where if neither parts make gains you can have a white peace and the 2 states have their own focus trees
That’s just KR
The USA needs a secret path to form the United States of earth
Which is hard to justify in the base game since Germany didn’t win WW1
Say you are doing good as the csa, you get all of us, nut if not you can try to white peace
Each scenario having their own branches
Lowkey has that as the CSA rn minus the cores
I’m just like Commie Japan coring Asia including the middleast really opens the door
Every continent basically has a unification option apart from North America
Time for more schizo kx paths!
I'm so confused right now. The new DLC's. Are they like some kind of season pass, pre-order or are they already available,
IMO US coring North America is much less schizo than Brazil coring South America or Japan Asia, or countries doing Europe
That was basically Manifest Destiny’s goal
Pre-order
But will become available on season pass when they release in a month
Is there like discount if you buy them now?
All that becomes available now after pre-ordering is a ship cosmetic that doesn’t have a function rn
20% allegedly
Tbh considering majority comes out 2026, just buy the Japanese dlc and avoid the expansion
Until we see if the content is worth or not
Or atleast North America
Yeah, I think the state expansion mechanic should cover Canada & once you integrate Canada you could proclaim the USNA. There is a lot of potential with a USA rework
Like you could have a postwar Triumph in Europe tree and a Triumph in Asia tree once Germany & Japan are beaten or in your faction/puppet, with a war goal on Russia and maybe China at the end of each, kinda like the Turan path at the end of the Turkish tree
If any nation deserves postwar content it’s the US
I shouldn’t be getting my expectations up like this
This isn’t healthy
They should add propaganda mechanic to majors
well now we know what dlc is being integrated next
Man the guns? We've known for a while
Weve always known, they are going by order of release
From the oldest to the newest
no, lar
It is safe to assume that by next year laR will be integrated
They said they were making a bundle not that they were integrating it, although it is probable that it would be next
i’d argue that ussr post war content would probably be more deserving
Its called juice the cow while it has milk in it
My bad on the everyone, I forgot to use the news @
next expansion is going to be with usa
i call it
probably the usa and the commonwealth
i soflocked myself from playing the facist path the first time i played it
Probably super nerf to USA and allies
crazy price ngl
this is terrible
super expensive base game plus 2 of the worst dlcs
why would they announce this
Here is the dlc timeline
LaR and BftB will likely be integrated together when the time comes
so basically just want to sell as many as possible before they make it free?
Katching
i havent seen a dlc where they do 2 majors together (as in full rework)
true
so probably one or the other
but i mean only usa would be boring
tru
that would be strange lol
i could see mexico and cuba getting something
Dam, its been 10 years since TfV
i feel like they should do dominions and uk at same time
australia:
lol
I actually am looking forward to them integrating LaR
The french Focus tree is kinda bad
im not
i have no idea how to use the spy system
and im not going to learn it either
You dont have to
90% of the time i just slap spies on an enemy country for the planning bonuses and thats it
Or keep them as counter terrorists in my country
the only actual good thing ive heard from lar is collab govs
and thats it
Collabs take so long, i always forget to make them on time
Usually i kill countries before i need them
true
isnt no compromise no surrender a double major rework tho
on countries like ussr its unbearable (for 2 years now have i been going to the urals to kill josepho stalinco)
china isnt a major strangely enough
pretty sure at least ROC is a major if it leads the united front
Still waiting to see what we'll get in the free update
because ots a faction leader yes
all fac leaders r majors
probs only historical japan lol
Sweden is always a major for example
most important nation in ww2
yeah tbf industrially and militarily, china at startdate isnt much of a major
Technically the true majors are the ones in the main screen when starting a game
Which excludes China
and politically
ye
But i think China is much more of a major than a country like Italy
make it explode into ten trillion pieces
italian industry was tiny honestly
one could make that argument but then again china was in political turmoil in 1936
unlike italy
The RL majors of the Allies were Britain, France, US, USSR and Nationalist China

Which are the UN council members
I think all DLCs until no step back will be intergrated
tbf france and china werent really majors lol
france was very nearly not gonna be on the council
Yeah but they threw a couple tantrums and bam they were
Hoi4s life will be ending when battle for the bopherus is integrated is my prediction
true they ended up overblowing the significance of the french resistance and partisans
i highly doubt we will get a hoi5 though
France in world war 1 was a major though IK we are talking about WWII
And the aftermath
well yeah, but their rapid fall and failure to retreat to algeria to keep fighting meant they got highly discredited
they barely even got a german occupation zone
True
My dude, that will probably be next year
were they even trying to retreat to algeria?
After next year
some key voices were calling for it but they didnt win out
