Bug fixes are supposed to be coming this week I believe
These are responses by paradox employees on the forums
I think India should have a bonus to electronics research since they are very skilled in IT nowadays. But I can't stand elephants..
Instead of IT helpdesks like today, they’re more of a foreign legion helpdesk in game
This response was terrible. They decided to have operation shoulder after operation knee and not have an operation toe? SMH.
Afghanistan didn't get enough attention in the DLC called 'Graveyard of Empires.
For real
I do believe that people are guilty of hubris, especially product managers.
Idk it definitely can become the graveyard of empires lol
Personally i don't like how alternative paths now are just overpowered memes.
U should capitulate the Soviet Union as them…
They think they are more clever than their users..
I was the Soviet allied path
It's very hard to unite Arabia with Iraq
So was me and the Soviets V everyone
But it’s really easy
Currently occupy Iran, Steppe and India
I am going to guess a lot of stuff is being added to focus trees. Especially for Afghanistan and Iraq.
Trust me
Only took me 12 years to win
Well it puts my mind at ease a bit that they’ll be dedicating so much effort into GOE
He means that he expects for more cores ponteial and something bigger but yeah it's cancer for you enemy
When I'm incompetent and lazy, I make excuses and say it's my new perspective or new art.
As mentioned before, the most heinous thing Paradox has ever done is get a simple children’s song wrong. It goes head, shoulders, knees, and toes. Not head, knee, shoulder, no toes.
I had like 17 mil core which isn’t huge but is kinda comparable to South Africa or Australia
Changes to the focus tree?
Definitely
I imagine they’ll be reworking trees yeah, maybe adding formables
Niceee
Not enough ponteial i think
Maybe it’s reference to a mermaid, so no toes
Probably not all of it. But, some of it.
Ooh, a dev update
Can agree; from how it read out to me they more or less put their hands up and said "Yeah, we done goofed"; I might be under a rock saying this, but you don't see that happen often
This should be good
Long live the turko Persian empire
Yeah i think the big group of their developers joined the work
Why does knees come before shoulders. I am unfortunately unfamiliar with mermaid biology, so perhaps you could enlighten me.
Not trees, but probably some of the branches if we’re optimistic
If it’s a big team = big update
because it knee'ds to
I hate myself for that
I was able to occupy India and get high compliance so my manpower was basically equivalent to 100+ mil

Remember, strong buffs can make you occupy easier. Occupation offsets core pop well
Truly, this is the worst thing that Paradox has ever done.
Am I the only one who doesn’t like the color of the formables ?
Boutta go under for this one fr
They’re doing a rolling spin bc mermaid
I wouldn’t be surprised to see formables and tree reworks. Maybe an additional set of focuses for a few paths
That's great but you know i think it's one of the countries with tree with low core ponteial
lmao
If you get high high compliance, which is made easier by the faster compliance gain by commie Afghanistan. You can get something like 25-30% non core if not more
Their Expansions would probably work better if they actually included relevant countries
Raj was the exception
Mhmm, thought I think most branch reworks would be for India, Iraq and Afghanistan as Iran is only ruined by bad features and lack of coring stuff
But takes more lot time this is the point
How is the oil rich middleast, both of which Iran and Iraq were invaded by powers during WW2, as well as India not relevant?
Well, I believe that if I live until 2026, I'll see even worse things.
Iran just needs Persian formable that it had and maybe 1 more formable to be fun
Iran and Iraq were pretty irrelevant to the war, all they did was get killed in less than a month.
Their oil was extremely important 😂
That’s kinda why they were invaded in full force
I don't believe Iran and Iraq were irrelevant in the sense of the world war, like Joe said their resources were vital to the war effort considering oil = functional air, navy, tanks, etc.
Unite Arabia is not possible rn btw
Imagine if they actually updated countries like Australia, China, US, Canada, Japan etc...
Sounds about right
Legit 3/4 were relevant
I think Paradox Interactive should reconsider and optimize the distribution of strategic resources. The current allocation is quite frustrating.
Malta should have 999 of every resource like it did historically
True, and a rework of supply system or an ai update to incentivize the ai to build more supply hubs, along with more supply hubs in the Turkmenistan area of the ussr and a faction joining rework
But I have heard they're sort of irrelevant from a gameplay standpoint, as unless you're playing them they don't actually make much of a different impact to the world war than they did pre-DLC
Again, it's what I've heard
Idk if that’s a big issue. I’ve seen AI build supply hubs as needed and the supply systems is pretty fun
Because you can attack India you just have to wait for them to become independent but then they will join allies again
i wish they wouldve stated wut wuz gna be in the patches but oh wells, just gotta cross my fingers itll be good
I think they should decrease AI Germany division cap. They should make it more in line with Japan so Germany actually has to move troops from the Atlantic wall to the Soviets and not just have 500 divs everywhere
If we go off of Tommyk’s Iran game play in goe then that would be false
Well, maybe this new DLC's AI will help ease the CPU's burden...
Well, I personally, as well as everyone I know, am not really upset about the issues mentioned in the Dev Diary. Instead, our disappointment comes from the fact that:
- The focus trees are relatively small.
- The focus trees lack depth and complexity, showing little care or effort. This is especially frustrating when considering that mods like R56 provide the same content for free, often with even more detail and love for most countries.
- We were promised major urban warfare updates back in Götterdämmerung, which were then seemingly abandoned without much effort. I believe it was even mentioned in the forums that they would come with GOE, but in the end, almost nothing changed. Meanwhile, the community had great ideas, hopes, and expectations.
So patches generally fix things. War effort add/rework things. And it seems they have more war efforts planned or even a larger update for GOE. Since it’s not mentioned as a war effort
I remember such mentions of urban combat. Wonder if they just didn’t know how to implement
Rt56 Iran is meh
In comparison to the dlc
They should update Historical India path and nerf Iran for those without the DLC
I'm certain this falls under their definition of "scope" that they explained in the dev diary, considering the content we received was unpolished and, like you said, lacking effort
They very clearly undershot what they could put out (or overshot, I'm not sure which one is applicable here)
Improve the Iraqian and afganian tree and low the time of some Indian tree
In fact, I would prefer to experience intense and fierce battles, like Stalingrad, but in the game, we only see one side advancing relentlessly.
Yes, Iran has received little love in Road so far, but many other countries have, for example, Austria, where much more love and attention to detail have been put into R56 compared to DLC.
Basically, the one with more IC will be invincible.
Why does Iraq have the ability to core Spain but not Iran,Afghanistan or Pakistan
Yes, that would be awesome, and I think everyone wished for something like this when they heard about changes to Urban Warfare.
I'm not sure what we're specifying when we're talking about "intense and fierce battles, like Stalingrad", I'll need some elaboration
So we need to wait 1 month to see the changes
It's the extra month they needed to cook the content
If rather wait a month than repeat what they did with initial release
Generally paradox doesn’t make such claims if they won’t back it up so I agree
It's just taken them this long to realize it still needed cooking
I would disagree, road Austria is only good because of its Austria Hungary while dlc Austria gives you much more flexibility, you can even become Germany and core it and what Austria lacks in Austria Hungary content is filled by the shared focus tree between all those nations
Also, R56 might have free content, but it's of very wildly inconsistent quality
I mean a war of attrition, where both sides are heavily engaged for long periods, with no clear winner for a while, just like the prolonged struggle seen in Stalingrad.
No different from Paradox's quality control or of other mods in general
That’s why I generally don’t like mods. Extremely inconsistent and messy
True but they must show us the changes
Though some have actually received more love such as Czechoslovakia it’ll be unfair to compare it without waiting for paradox’s Czech update
Imma let them cook
I'm thinking that's more of an issue with the game's perspective than the mechanics really; you can have battles going on for days in HOI4, but if we're on like speed 5 for example it can go by in a matter of seconds compared to like speed 3/4
are they gonna make iran be able to core Afghanistan and Tajikistan and kurdish areas of iraq and syria?
I hope the frontline battles around key cities can have constantly shifting red and green bubbles, with no one being able to break through easily (implemented using a mechanism similar to the Spanish Civil War).
We need to see the changes it interesting
Wonder if they’d break cities up similar to Old World Blues. Or if they’d just give them better defensive buffs like +500% causalities or something
True maybe the specific city tile could have similar conditions
Ohh right, okay now I'm on your page; yeah I agree, having that sense of uncertainty from a mechanical perspective would be awesome
Or 5 more fort level if possible
And have forts have a areal effect to the rounding tiles as well
if they implemented unplanned offensive for random cities i think there would be a mod to remove it within half an hour of the patch going live
That’s just the new special project kinda
There's always gonna be things that people like and don't like, that's just the nature of a large community
Don’t even need forts. Tile types can give their own buffs or debuffs
Maybe it could be an alt option
Not really, of course, Focus Trees in Road to 56 have various qualities and are not perfect, but I also mean the overall gameplay experience. For example, when playing as Austria, you have events and decisions like July follows June and the need to prevent a Nazi coup.
Additionally, Road to 56 often has a lot of cool icons, which do exist in DLC focus trees as well, but with much less attention to detail. A good example is the Soviet icon DLC, which was added later because the Soviets originally received little attention to detail.
And as already mentioned, all of this is free compared to GOE.
You can choose what u like before the start
i think it would be cool if cities were split up into mini-tiles but divisions had a singular presence in the city as if it were all one tile. that way you could have partial or half control of a city and it could have changing buffs/debuffs based on the progress, as well as giving you partial access to the stuff that's in there
for example you could have half control of a city and have access to the naval base there, but not the airfield
Still prefer vanilla w/dlc. Is generally the most consistent as OP dlc are nerfed.
So like old world blues
i've never played that mod before, so i wouldn't know
In old world blues, cities are legit split up into small tiles, some cities being like 5 tiles
Sometimes, I wish to see manpower triumphs over technology and spirit conquers the gap in equipment (of course, this shouldn't happen too often, otherwise Japan would dominate the world).
On paper sounds good but ends up being very messy
🤦
They missed the opportunity to do
HEAD
SHOULDER
KNEE
Lowkey just raise causalities ammount on city tiles and like triple the combat width max
The content after the rework will be worth and good 100% it's now for the respect of the community
criminal behaviour
Yeah but what if you have soldiers being sieged in a city tile as that’s how it usually goes, the encirclement debuff makes sieges end way to quickly making it not as breath taking, and forts are the perfect defensive option to make that battle take longer
Hethr comes out of retirement after months, first time this year to make a head shoulder knees and toes joke 😭
Maybe should just get a supply grace buff for cities
i do think there should be different kinds of city/urban tiles, like a small city vs a dense city giving different terrain penalties. it would be cool if there was a city destruction mechanic as well, so that defenders get different stats as the fighting in the city happens or to show that they are being strategically bombed
like less entrenchment as more buildings in the city fall
I am from quebec, after all
I am evil
I’ve been busy watching my YouTuber friend play
EU4, MemoriaPolis, & Imperator
And now a new Vic 3 game
Hoi was just not in the cards
I did suggest it for them.
Considering that the weaker side often doesn't have enough troops, how about randomly generating some immovable, non-attacking, low-value defensive units for the weaker side when the stronger side advances near key cities to delay the attack?
MemoriaPolis will be ending soon, I’ll suggest hoi4 for after that
I think the game itself kinda just needs a devastation mechanic for tiles/states that give the areas debuffs to certain areas. Similar to Stellaris. But lowkey would lag the game to death bc way more calculations
But maybe if only cities had devastation
yeah, that would be a really interesting mechanic imo
I’m also getting into irl politics stuff
That makes sense!
I've seen too many blitzkriegs in MPS, where the defeat is as rapid and overwhelming as a landslide.
There’s a mod iirc that does that
Oh boy, I try to avoid that lol
Made a Roosevelt meme out of the current USA president
Yeah and most of that experience comes from roads general gameplay chooses rather then the focus trees, other then some outliers such as the Austrian July followed June system or Afghanistans reforms system. most of the fun comes from changes to research, and other things rather then the focus trees them selves, yes it’s free and I use it often too, but at the end of the day it comes down to paying paradox to get something better, be it a mechanic added from a dlc or a focus tree made in a unique way like turkeys focus tree
“Speak loudly, have small stick”
Since we have elephant units, why can't we have wheelchair units for Roosevelt or Hitler?
Even if they take that down it’s hilarious
It’s a redrawing of something Ai did
That was a stick? It looked like a wooden bottle head
just gonna pop in and do my usual big bad admin guy routine
and say cant post modern politicians
Saw that coming from a quintillion miles away
Hope the Islamic revolution one comes back
As someone that is an occasionally player (~250 hours) and has not really followed the latest dev diaries and controversial around the new dlc, I get that it came badly. So this poses a conundrum, should I wait 2 days or 2+7 days for the announced patches or just start a new play session? I intend to play in Europe with virtual no interest in Asia region, even though I have this new dlc through the bundle.
Fix the core of the Persian empire of course too
Just need the formable it had!
Would be interesting, though could be used for great evil 😂
Unlike EU, HOI4 is very contemporary to be so creative
You probably have focus trees kinda based on region.
Custom nations in the Germany region would get Germany-like focus trees
Accompanying formables would be neat too.
Maybe also core greece and Macedonia cause it's stupid just from the Byzantine
This was the plan of the Persian empire
This was the formable
Remember
Though if Byzantine empire exists, it can core it
How much cores
It's not happening
Of popu
Instead of Byzantines, should just be Greece in general imo
I’ve legit never seen the AI form Byzantium on its own
Trueee
Greece get Crimea?
Should just have to fight Greece, but Greece should get +20-30% defense buffs to make it harder
It must be normal greece
Yeah
“Greece”
What expected from india at the changes @fresh cedar
Hmmm, probably some nerfs in areas. Fixes to various independence focuses/paths. fixes to civil wars etc
Mostly bug fixes
Do u have it saved
I wanna see
In game I believe Roman Empire can release Crimea as the Bospori
Sent
Sent the one it’s kinda based on too
Original source OP
Yeah the independent is cancer rn
Can confirm
Lily acknowledged they know about it
So I imagine they’re getting fixed
Is it just me or were u gone for like, a long time
Really want to play the Timurids after fixes
That’s as intended apparently
Basically just defend, then it white peaces
The real bug was that the Raj loses its agrarian debuff while you as the now much weaker Mughals have it still
Which is blatantly unfair
The UK naval invasion
Just set a line along the river and it’s also on the port so you’re good
I think the UK is coded to not attack till the last 70 days so if you just hold it’s easy
A few months
👍
Same i saw tommy can't win the civil war until 1941
Timurid civil war best speedrun so you can focus on Afghanistan
I genuinely don’t know how you’re supposed to get Sinkiang though. If Lily has a gameplan for that I’d want to hear but Sinkiang kinda just makes it impossible
Which you need to progress down the tree
I fumbled that civil war (my first time) and I was not punching through that single tile in eastern Afghanistan
Yeah
Same
Looks like the characters for Afghanistan are going to get reworked
There will be a massive rework do you think
massive?
Massive..
Ninja
Every year the memes are going delusional more and more
It's massive
anyone has crashes loading late game files?
Massive nose
well they really handled it well imo
showed a lot of humility and responsibility
unlike certain other game companies
Is there a way for Iraq to core Iran ?
Ah very Muslim and very Arab
Umayyad did it for years 😏
I mean the occupation had a really big impact
But it ended over 500 years ago
And was pushed out with violence
peak
What is war effort?
Guess it was delayed a day
Patches and updates to content.
Like they may add spirits, rework focuses, change content etc
It’s how much support equipment I give to my frontline
Hey that's great
I did not realize how much Iran gets for air
I just love how almost exactly a year ago was PDX's response to negative reviews of Trial of Allegiance
mfs need to just stop making country packs and use that extra time saved to make the expansions even better
literally none of the country packs have gotten good reviews
it's not gonna happen is it
PDX isn't even writing nearly as much this year
not even trying anymore
"We have all hands on this endeavour right now." Makes one wonder what endeavor they're talking about
The "endeavour" is taking that extra month to actually finish the thing
They by all rights should have delayed the game if it was at this stage in development this close to release date
And I have to assume the actual devs knew that, just by how they're actually talking about the state of the release
But the Higher Ups™️ forced a Q1 release, so now everyone has to be at fault to save face
It all comes down to pdx being publicly traded and the need to please shareholders with this "battle pass quarterly update" model that a lot of games have been doing. They were rushed by suits to push it out way before it was ready and this will continue to happen since it is the nature of shareholders and their infinite need for more money.
The real stinger is leakers say a good portion of the code for this dlc was done by Ai and they've been using it for a little while now to speed up development time but it's actually abysmal and creating spaghetti code, or code upkeep.
Don’t make up bullshit
We obviously messed up, but AI writing script is … yeah no.
Aye, i said it's from a leak not a factual source.
I get your point, but still it's in the realm of possibilities now with the Ai race ongoing. I've seen other games do it.
Idk, it just gets a bit old when ppl are telling me that all our problems are caused by the free hand of the market descending from on high and plugging in an AI chip to generate content
When we’re saying loudly and openly: we made mistakes, it wasn’t corporate suits or Ai, or, well, anything other than that
I blame AI for everyone blaming everything on AI
Sure. I've been in a similar position before when I worked on a game so I know how it feels with public pressure. I sympathize.
Did you AI generate the order of the updates? Because you clearly got the children’s song wrong! It goes shoulders then knees! /j
I shall fire our patch Lyricist immediately
I'll bow out for now, i apologize for the unnecessary and potentially misleading post on an already inflamed discussion.
(Sidenote please do Japan next)
Eh no worries. I’m a bit cranky rn
Bro spouted so much cap the director got involved
Can we please get different colors for the formables, Hashemite caliphate would look so much better with a dark red representing their royal standard
Hashemite should be hot pink.
What happened
Granted. I also does not believe on the AI accusations since if that was the case, the contents would not be as barebones with focus lacking coherent descriptions. Or even lack of certain portraits, giving that one of touted positives of generative AI is to create more contents...
I hope there would be open BETA sessions again.
Yeah ofc ai would have often done a better job. A lot stuff are exact copies from ToA. Ai wouldnt wtite TODO, it would give focuses descriptios and it would have done better research on for example ammanullah khan.
Lmao, it would not.
I tried asking a lot of things about Dutch East Indies when researching for my mod, and the AI gives a ton of bogus stuffs that would fool anyone who get their history lessons through memes. I facepalmed at that and from then i'm exclusively using books, journals, and online articles which can be verified by the first two as the source.
Never again
Like seriously, Cornell's Modern Indonesia Project is there. Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal, Landen, en Volkunenden is there, Oxford Sutheast Asian Collections is there. Late colonial East Indies is so vibrant that i can formulate 10 political paths using the materials provided there alone.
uk should be next
Id be ok with uk as well, the older majors need some tuning.
2025: Japan
2026 Q1/2: China
2026 Q4: USA
2027 Q1/2: France
2027 Q4: UK
☃️
Yeah for sure
France before UK?
fineshyt playing hoi4???
They are a bit bias towards the Brit’s ig
Such a conspiracy theorist take. At this point should probably go touch grass
That would be so cool
What isn’t bugged in this update? Schnasty.
Communist Afghanistan sorta works as intended most of the time
One of the few paths I actually went “hey that’s not completely broken” yeah
Actually had fun and didn’t get crushed by a bug during it 😂
Right??
Mughal, Fascist India, EITC, Greater Iraq, Hashemite Iraq, Persian Empire and Fascist Iran had bugs for me
Tried some multiple times
But hey looking forward to bug fixes
Aye, I'm also looking forward to how they reapproach it too
Ye, I've not had chance to check steam forums to see what discussions they're having there tho, so idk what their new approach is gonna be
Have you looked at em?
Yeah
Patches will fix bugs, war effort will rework some content with some additions. And April will most likely have larger changes
Bet, what about people's comments towards the company's reapproach to GoE? What have the majority suggested?
Well yeah I understand the opinion enough lmao, I see it often in this server alone
Fix things, consider more formables, consider more content in such DLC, stuff like that
Patches aren’t going to fix the damages the DLC’s done at this point
(If the patches are actually patches and not a shut up we’ll get to it some day)
Noice, I hope they emphasised using longer deadlines to work on them too
They’re planning on fixing things and adding potentially cut content if not just more content in general be it focuses etc.
Well yeah that's how mistakes usually work, but they can always learn and improve just like a regular person can
But they also said they are reevaluating the country pack model and will consider doing more in the future such as mechanics or more content
Mistakes don’t involve an EA-level backlash and the most abysmal review record for their DLC
But nonetheless it’s been like that since BftB
I think first casualty was the Turkish tree with a million 70 day focuses that people ate up
Yyyyyikes.
They also acknowledged this
They did cuz it hurts sales and is a big bad look for the outside player.
That’s generally what bad reviews mean yeah lol
Acknowledging is the first step, now we wait to see if and how they'll act
Highly suggest reading this
Maybe just the dev replies
It’s not super long actually
Pretty easy read
Yeah, plus mistakes are still mistakes no matter how big or small they are
They still have consequences, but they also still have lessons to teach
Ew. Ewwwww.
Lowkey though, would be nice to have a single one for some players.
"Considered" is not a guarantee, by the way
Nothing in the post is a guarantee.
I’m not a fan of the business model to sell each country but if a person from Iran only wanted Iran and not 4; would be better
I'm not sure how much of the community appeals to this method though honestly
If they offered country packs, but you could select which countries to buy from it, would be nice. So instead of $15 for 4, maybe $7.5 for 2 countries
That way I don’t have to buy Iraq and Afghanistan for instance if I only wanted Iran and India
But maybe later I did want the other two and got them too
Ahh so you mean they're all released at once but are individual purchases?
Yeah, so like an actual pack
That'd be an interesting sales method
I wouldn’t be entirely opposed to that.
Same
As long as the cost is comparable to a normal country pack if divided
Yeah
Because ik most players only really have interest in 1-2 from a country pack, rarely all
To be fair most players really just want a major country rework because the Japan focus tree is absolutely shameful.
Best and most OP communist tree in game
Joking don’t lose it
If I’d want actually good focus trees for LatAm I’d download a mod that does ten times a better job.
true…
I thought TOA was fun though I would’ve liked to see a broader scope. Had it been all of mainland South America, would’ve been nicer
Paradox reprioritising is something I've seen a lot of support for, myself included, but none of us really know how they work on the inside so
Was weird to only get half, with logically Carribean, Central America, and (Northern) South America being perhaps their own seperate
Absolutely, it’s weird seeing the equador war with Peru and no focuses for any.
Shouldn’t have it broken into 3-4 packs
Missed opportunity imho.
Peru still fun imo
Generic tree so good
Peru gaming with two formables
I sorta like the generic 😂
Same
Just did a WC as Morocco with generic
It's pretty reliable
A tree for gran Colombia would be chef’s kiss.
Maybe a shared one where Venezuela Ecquador and Colombia can use it so those three can form it.
But major’s are more important.
I’d rather a total Japan-China and USA overhaul than all of latam and SEA getting focus trees.
If they do Columbia, Venezuela etc, I’d want to see Central America as well and maybe also the carribean
3-5 countries just doesn’t seem substantial enough
Early Cuban revolution!
Or capitalist takeover
That’s my biggest gripe with the DLCs - they’re just so tiny
I like the content and generally have fun but yeah agreed
You rework 3-4 countries. This was ABSOLUTELY fine when the DLCs reworked majors mind you, but when it only reworks a few… it’s hard to justify shelling out big bucks for em.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they started including features into such packs
$20 for Luxembourg and Liechtenstein
Yeah definitely
Now, GoE I can understand it being 3-4 considering where it aims, but ToA I do agree it should have been a broader selection of countries, even if they got the same regionals as say Paraguay and Uruguay
Luxembourg better be able to make the HRE
That’s the funny thing.
Should’ve just been South America imo. Would’ve then let them do the carribean and Central America as its own dlc too. But now it’s awkward because it sets up that region to be 3 dlc which will just cause more issues
Yeah 100%
Communist Brazil and Hitler Argentina go so hard though
The most profitable DLCs are probably the ones that actually rework and add new mechanics like La Résistance and NSB.
Country Packs are still relatively new are they? I don't remember when bosporous dropped
Not… focus tree for Brazil Argentina and Chile. Or focuses for Middle East.
That’s years ago
BftB is old technically but since then they’ve been taking over PDX.
I think their function isn’t to sell as much but to tie over players and stakeholders between major DLC
It’s a sort of gap fill that as seconds as additional content otherwise not suited for major releases
You mean like a retention thing?
A bit of each probably.
I don’t think it’s a bad business practice. But it’s clear people want a little more out of them
But like, arguably their desire to rush out a DLC to keep people hooked has… not worked well to say the least.
Like. Just give the devs time.
Hard to meet expectations imo
I still prefer TOA over AAT
If that is their approach, yeah definitely, but I'm not gonna speculate what their intentions behind country packs are as I don't remember any clear cut statements they made over them if any
AAT just wasn’t fun for me. Maybe bc the limited coring
2020
So nearly 5 years ago
Dayum
HOI4 is almost 9 years old
Absolutely. But ironing out STATE_1010 and uhh. This. Should be part of quality control at some point.
So country packs have been coming out for more than half of the games life cycle
I’m old Jesus
BFTB feels like 2 years ago for me
Hard agree.
It does make me wonder how much time they had to work on QA and playtesting
I reserve judgement till after their rounds of patches. My initial judgment has already been extended so now I wait
Apparently many weeks before release. Like 3-4 Atleast
Where'd they mention that? Or is this like a general method
YouTubers mentioned getting it two weeks before release, and were told it was ironed out for a couple weeks before they got their version
So I’m basing it off that, could be nonsense. But at the very least it was 2 weeks with youtubers getting it
Ah, okay
They do this for pretty much every dlc
Yeah, I remember content creators getting early access ofc, I just didn't remember when they got it
Was around the same timeframe for GDR too I believe and TOA
Not sure if it happened before TOA
I mean, realistically it should’ve been left in the oven for longer and not need such a massive patch wave for damage control.
But the thing is, didn't they only release content when the DLC dropped, compared to some time before?
The devs needed time to work.
Yup!
PDX didn’t need to rush them so bad.
Aye, hindsight 20/20
I mean, the releases have all been around the same time every year. So I’m not sure if they even had less time
I feel that the Silk Road and subsequent backlash/changes derailed it to the point that it released as it did
But it could just be they overlooked things
It's a factor 100%
The whole Tibet thing defo did affect it. But it was partly paradox’s fault for not addressing it and letting the whole thing spiral out of control.
Steam forums was a wasteland for days full of spam.
So I’m guessing it was that to the most part. And so it threw it off balance
Absolutely yes.
Luchilly they actually want to fix it though
Poorly handled, thoughever.
The thing I'm wondering is, how would they have theoretically addressed it though?
Well now they can make up for it
I may have allowed China to code Tibet with high compliance as a war effort and promised such a change, while making it the same for India instead of quick cores. The Silk Road removal was a good call
Two ways. Cave in and give the Chinese the core as part of the patch, or muscle up on their moderation everywhere.
But I’m not paradox so I can’t say why they did what they did. Allowing China to do that would’ve basically given into demands from people who sent death threats, effectively validating their toxic behavior
As in, deleting the Chinese spam posts, addressing the review bombing, etc.
Yup.
That would basically tell them that if they go too far, it’ll work.
Which is why I’d be proponent of heavy moderation on that kind of thing and not letting the Chinese spam posts fester.
Mm, kk
I was just asking because I believe there's a pretty significant East Asian community, at least it is on the workshop, so to me it seems like a minefield to properly address
Because I saw some heavily racist, homophobic things posted by the netizens at the forum.
As a whole it may be a disaster but I see it as a Pyrrhic victory for paradox
It’s banned in China so realistically they’re not a market.
Hm, ic
PRC doesn’t exactly like how real history represents their country lol. They complained a lot for waking the tiger too
I don’t really recall why but probably something to do with kai-shek and Tibet. Probably. Take it with a grain of salt, I just know it’s banned.
PRC is shown weaker than ROC, with many other polities having equal if not greater claims on China. Goes against one China policy
Personally if I were them I’d be like “Wow look at everything we overcame” not “We lack legitimacy!”
i mean the issues with cores is very different visions
cores used to be more grounded
but now are handed out like candy
Agreed
The old system of requiring high compliance with some like Poland was kinda nice
Aye I do agree it was more enjoyable when coring felt methodical with the need for say compliance, getting the approval of countries like in the imperial federation, etc.
I like formables though
Oh yeah fr, formables are still valid because there's that sense of reward from going through the process of conquering countries
what would be the balance of the two, in your opinion, that you'd like to see?
(this is a personal question, I'm just curious)
I really like incremental formable nations such as Morocco. Perhaps early and most plausible ones would be normal formables where you just need to occupy. Then the further you get, the harder it becomes, requiring higher compliance for example. So like Persia could get Afghanistan and middleast for free. But North Africa and Greece would require compliance to core
Like direct strong claims easily obtainable. But mixed ones needing more work
Depends on the scope of the formable imo
make coring cost a ridiculous amount of PP, since the communist and facist in mid to late game end up floating a lot give them something else to use it on, maybe even cost civ factories for X amount of time depending on the resources of factories in a state.
but keep formable for when you own all of the land but something like high compliance coring as a stepping stone on the way there.
so each mechanic does not overstep into the others territory
Methodical formables I enjoy, where you need to go through a process to acquire them, like the Imperial Federation or the European Union
I actually like how TOA did cores
Costs like 30-75 pp to core occupied territories
Which becomes like 3000+ pp to do a continent
yep something like that cause for me in mid to lategame pp becomes useless in sp and mp
They did this with GOE though, like Arab federation needs pp to core
The Roman Empire formable in particular could probably use work. Western Rome in mainland Europe seems okay for free cores. But its African, British isles, Germanic and Middleastern cores should be PP
Yeahh, ToA did it nicely which I appreciate; there's also the paths where you make an alliance and then integrate your allies right?
The integration was GDR I believe
I was thinking abt like the good neighbour policy for brazil
I think that's the one that does it?
The scope of cores isn’t really my gripe, Moreso the expediency of cores in very contested and far fetched areas
True true
Interesting ideas, though I am curious what you define as a 'methodical' formable outside of the Imperial Federation, or rather how you'd think it'd be achieved
(If you see me make a spelling error, no you did not)
Chak is data gathering rn 😂
if only, I am just curious and stalling on doing something i really dont wanna do IRL
XD
Same
I had to trivialise my message bc I'm a lil busy with getting home, but what I mean is that you need to take steps to get it, like how in the European Union mechanic you get to make a faction, invite people to it, federalise and annex them to get the territory needed for your cores to do the formables
tik toc be like
proceeds to stall it by a week
when you procrastinate on procrastination
I can't do that, I'd rather my room not smell like dirty laundry lol
There’s grounds for coring through regional powers agreeing upon joining
That type
plz add kyivan rus if you release ukraine
🙏
lol
Chak isn’t that sort of HOI4 team member lol
I'm a little confused, you got an example?
whats so funny
If you want a specific releasable, best place to mention it is on the forums
bc lord knows no one wants me to code anything
Just like what you mentioned. The powers you allied slowly integrate
I wasn’t talking to u bro
Ohhh right
I don’t want all formable to integrate that way but would be cool to have some
Indeed, I am Le Stupid
Yeah ofc, there should be different methods, they were just the main ones I could get off top of my head
I only manage the community here and type out the dev diaries and stuff, the assets too, I am not a coder
It’s just crazy how Mexico must wait like 240 days to core southeast USA, meanwhile Roman Empire can basically instantly core all of the former empire
Ig regions do take political power
Yeah, there's that disparity between how efficiently you can get them regardless, if that's what you mean?
Mhm
Some seem easy, some not. But I suppose each country is different realistically so some may be easier than others
only english in this server young man
i have to do everything around here
Lmfao
Chak using that classic Arheo logic question of “What do you think that would look like” smh
Tbh it's not a bad method
eh, I am more trying to get in line with how some people think because I can't see it myself, sometimes
WHAT
That makes sense
I will give you the role of shame dont make me do it
hi lily
you wouldnt dare
im crazy
Ahh, yeah I get that man, it's a bit hard to see from other perspectives
LMAO
France cores on Quebec and non-rng French federation confirmed?
u were around chak for like 2 months and he already corrupted u to the very core
legit a good idea
Seriously though guys, head, shoulders, knees should be the order of the patches…
head shoulders knees and toes
We need to make a petition for it
“OH YAY THE MASSIVE TOES UPDATE IS HERE”
fr
perspectives and seeing how other people think helps me understand where people are coming from, which also helps me go through what people are saying and it's kernel of truth and whatnot, yknow?
Toe-tally
Chak will be like “For all you foot fanatics out there, the toes update is here ;)”
im a junior marketing expert clearly
nahhhh that is wild no thanks
😭😭😭
I like Pun-ishing people but thats just too far
Yessir, it's extremely useful and something I learned to pick up on back when I did game modifications and custom game formats
Hard to work with sometimes, but it's invaluable imo
chak i will remove quebec from the game i swear to god
Let's get the Sea of Quebec gang
France coring Quebec would be peak
I mean Lily gave me the best laugh I have from code in a long time
Chile is legit the better France lol
Ayo, dev notes in the code?
Imagine cores on the Louisiana territory too, comparable to the Spanish empire war effort patch?
I legit want to know how you snuck that past QA, Lily
Bros just based like that ig
What does this mean
I'm insane idk
Ah yeah, Southeast Asia, totally not an important WW2 theater
You didn't see it, it already made it on social media
Mood
What is that mascot?
Nah I didn't bro, been out of the community loop for a hot minute
You have to remember Chak is "French"
Looks like one of those fuzzy worms on a string if it sprouted limbs
Mascot for the Montreal Expos (baseball team)
as to what it is, you'd have to ask them
I dont watch sportsball
I'd rather someone figure out a way to make Poutine into a Mascot costume
I would become a staunch Quebec supporter
I once made a poster for a Poutinefest event where the fries were zombies coming out of a cheesy graveyard
I personally loves irredentist-type formables with claims between 1736-1969.
(Was around Halloween)
Chak, when is the moon/mars colonization update
i like the ottoman/ byzantine formables but without needing to beat 3 factions to core
I am too tired this morning, I had to look up irredentist
irredentismo
Good morning @pseudo wing
at the same time that you win against me
hallo friend, did I perhaps miss a message
I am currently sitting on 567
lmao
Nooo, I just wanted to say hello!

Commanders or what?
Peak mod?
Already did my job to propose a rework for Arabia in the forums since 2020, btw.
silly Lu Jian, you think I mean in-game
I meant in the cosmic sense, he can never really defeat me
I am too cringe
Oh, hi.
Hope all goes well for tomorrow's patch.
I'll play against you
Oh nice, keep the suggestions going
I don't make any decisions but I can perhaps mention it if/when I have the time towards more War Effort content
how dare you, hello
Forming "Greater X" stuffs, limited only to the groups who proposed for it.
Hi at school, I'm Chak
I have found the meta
I am giving Canada to Denmark
(But u don’t get the legos)
Im gonna need Steiner
I didn't know where D3vil is going lately, so maybe Lily can pick up his mantle to realize my wishes for Arabian tiered formable?
(also adding two more core and claim for Rattanakosin formable at Burmese states)
(darn it, Meka, why you left so early?)
What other formables would you like to see? Other than the Obvious Quebec one that I am SURE you all want
r-right?

I would love Assyrian Empire to be retooled into Mesopotamia, and available for free.
The caveat is that if you formed it as an Arab nation, you can't form Arabia.
Required and cored: Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Kuwait, Jordan
Claims/cores added when formed: Jawf, southern Turkey, Sinai
(i'll probably adding it to my mod as well)
Whazzap I'm back fools, I just got home
Here is my suggestion unrelated to formables: more generals for Afghanistan.
- Maybe more releaseables for the US. Would be neat to be like New England, or the Southeast, the Pacific states etc.
- Make it so Greek/byzantine formables don’t require islands to form.
- More African formables on the Ivory Coast.
- Smaller Middleastern formables. Like the idea of Arabia but it’s extremely hard to form. Maybe only require the Levant to start and then let it expand from there like Al Andalus.
What’s needed to form Arabia initially
Potential formable for Palestine, Syria, Lebanon. And Malta 😉 (Tenth Crusade)
Sorry Chak you asked lol
quebec empire cores all of france (including colonies)
I did ask, no need to apologise
need this asap
yes ofc
no
RU?
you hate me
yes
I mean fair
quebec empire should have a mechanic to change native languages to quebec french
😭 Noo now I feel bad
if you are asking if there are Russian language channels in the server, no there are not
You could perhaps find some people to play with in #alt-history-multiplayer #historical-multiplayer that speak russian but all communication in the server has to be english
rename every state to french localisation 5head
What does Lily think about the formables I showed 😦
ok
Levant Malta Tenth Crusade😔
That mod if very formidable
?
Formable nations 😂
My brain crashed
Legit though, Arabia should be formed with this or just the general middleast. To get cores on North Africa should function as later coring decisions like Al Andalus
Arabia just such a massive single formable. Almost not worth bc gotta lose 50 billion manpower to get it
This is Hard
This, chefs kiss
interesting idea
also I have added the 'naval "expert" role with a role icon for people to use now because I feel like its great

On the topic of formables actually, I find it a bit weird that some formables have to be independent while others aren't
Like RK’s or what
Far from being that I’m afraid 😂
There's some like Gran Colombia which need the country to be independent
Whereas other formables like I think Hispaniola, Latin Africa, Great Zimbabwe, they can be puppets and still form
navy? isnt that just the thing where you click your ships and press "strike force"?
see, Kai here is an EXPERT
I'm not sure, I play landlocked countries like... Canada
yes, landlocked
....
:)
Very landlocked, I agree! Landlocked are the best!
me when the land is locked
This is basically the current Morocco Umayyad formable. Green being needed to form, darker colors being different sections of it later
as you wish
Ewww
this is going to be how the map looks from now on
be greatful! i did just what you asked for!
You should change swedens color to be identical to the USA to make it even worse
greatful
greatful
grateful
Grapefruit
the grates are full
I like that idea, yeah
no
Lily hates me
yes
Neo Franco Empire, can core the carribean too
we've been over this
Oi, she doesn't hate you, just... Quebecsiana is not a vibe?
Please, @runic depot?
Of course Lily is cool with the Spanish empire getting all its former cores including Florida. But France can’t even get Quebec 😭
just have the formable be named to 'Nouvelle Monde'
would honestly be great
They would have amazing food
Poutine as a side, gumbo as a main
🥹
... You might be onto something! That does sound good
... still, I'm afraid it's gonna have to be a no
A tiered arabian formable is something I would not be against, and is definitely worth considering, but its not the biggest priority right now and so no promises. But maybe.
Whelp
Okay, well that’s a good start I suppose haha
that is a disaster! No tea?! D:
Tiered formables are so good
its too far away
the bad french really makes it feel like quebec
😉
So u are saying if something is banned, they don't exist?
But Paradox take Chinese money away.. If you gain, u have to pay
U can't earn money from someone and cliam that they don't exist so u have no obligation
lore accurate quebec
French Empire should have a similar final focus to the Spanish empire one where if they occupy former colonies can core them 😉
That war effort Spanish empire formable focus is so good
Corrected Rattanakosin formable should also be in too.
Tbh it would slap, we get Imperial Federation, Spanish Empire, why doesn't France get one?
Quebecois french has a little english and english in it, makes it make perfect sense
Quebec French is just old France French, but Quebecois is a whole other ordeal lol
Right, UK and Spain get em
do you know Tetes a Claques?
i love it
best quebecois you'll see
I live in Montreal, of course I know it lol
lol
was never sure if it was actually just skits in quebecois or making fun of quebecois
bit of column A, bit of Column B
potty mouth over here
France Formable path 😉
Literally, I’m a menace
Tbh never used to play Spanish empire. But after the war effort changes it’s my favorite Spain
If you occupy all of that as the Spanish Empire, you can core it through a focus
Going from like 35 mil manpower to like 150 mil
noice
Yeah I'll try that path out when I get the vibe to play, just haven't had any new motive to hop on
I get like that too, so many things to play nowadays. And often lack the energy to play any
The best part of Canada, the worst part of France
- some joke I heard a long time ago
I don't have much choice paralysis tbh, I just feel like I've done all the different builds I can think of
Same
British…
No
why
They are big enough
About that, today I just posted a suggestion in the forum about the Crown of Aragon as a Formable Nation:
Thread 'Crown of Aragon as a Formable Nation' https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/crown-of-aragon-as-a-formable-nation.1731088/
Since the Crown of Aragon already exists in the game as a cosmetig tag for Catalonia, wouldn't be hard to implement it.
Oh, hi.
(MacTavish here)
I mean, it is a good formable, but it's another single-releaseable formable, reminded me of Assyria.
At least many releaseables can form Turkestan, Caucasus, Northern Caucasus, and Tatarstan
More formables the better lowkey 😂
Well, Catalonia is the only country that makes sense to form it 😆
Not really, it would also make sense for Naples to be able to form it
I don't think so. Naples and Sicily were conquered by Aragon after being formed. It would be like Danzig coring the German Empire, or Tunis, Lybia or Egypt coring the Ottoman Empire
I mean, Croatia can form Austria Hungary
Yes, and I think it shouldn't 😅
Croatia-Hungary
wait what happened with the new DLC that the developers are now doing a "sorry" post and that the dlc has overwhelmingly negative review?
Bro is not in the loop
I am not. The new dlc came to me as a surprise lol
Where's a sorry post
I saw it on steam
This is the best failure ive seen
On the one hand, many furious Chinese nationalists made a review bombing because India can now core Tibet, and China can't. And also India has a focus about the Silk Road but China hasn't. What they don't realise is that this is a DLC based in India and Middle East, not in China. And if someday they make a DLC based in China, probably would adress those things.
On the other hand, the DLC has been released very bad: a lot of bugs, unfinished parts, previous events and focuses broken, etc. They should have delayed the release to fix all of this before launching the DLC.
And that's my summary 😅
Can you get Faqir of Ipi as a country leader, his portrait was in the dev diary but I cant find him in game
or as a general
Is the Persia being unable to core Iraq or the Levantine going to be fixed ?
very likely
Celtic union schitzo path for Ireland (scotland, britanny, wales, bits of north portugal and spain) and cores on all of US cuz why not
also unsure why you can't have all indian releasable released at game start
There's a gamerule for it no? Or do you mean like with ironman
unless I missed it no gamerule for it
You'll wanna scroll down to the fragmentation rules
ye ik I checked for it unless im just blind
ah, uhh
It should be there? Probs have to be thorough in the game rules but ik it's there
I'll check now but I remember thinking it was stupid why you couldnt
oh nvm my bad I think I expected it to be under germany because it's new but now realized it's farther up
Ugh the US
think of it this way most americans wish they were irish (cuz their grand aunts cousins dog was irish) so we make them irish
Yeah I get that
But aaargh it's so cringe
it is a schitzo path so can't really go wrong
It's actually pretty ridiculous that China can't core Tibet and Mongolia
Plenty of countries have tons of expansion options but China can't gain a core state on a country that historically has been part of China or a Chinese vassal for over a thousand years. Same goes for Mongolia since they were a vassal of the Qing, claimed (and before 1921 occupied by) the ROC, and historically the Mongols even ruled China during the Yuan dynasty
Meanwhile India can make a Hindu Theocracy that gets easy cores on a Buddhist country
Tbf, WTT is pretty old at this point
I think it's crazy that mongolia doesnt have a focus tree yet due to the insane history they have, and ireland should get one cuz they are goated
It is, but given most of the alternate history paths in-game have tons of wacky expansion options it feels weird that the devs are the Dalai Lama's strongest soldiers on this issue
Wouldn't be that hard, just make it like how Poland can core Lithuania or India can core the Princely States with enough compliance
Oh yeah I’m sure a burma focus tree would be extremely fun. (Obvious joke)
It was an important theater. For the majors, not for the tiny nations there. Lol
we had this debate before, definitely not clear cut that tibet has been under china's control for a thousand years. however, at the end of the day, it is completely irrelevant. it does not matter. I do agree that the india tree and options are silly though.
How is paradox “taking Chinese money away”?????
Hoi4 isn't banned in China
also, why doesn't spain just take all of portugal? they have plenty enough points
instead we will be left with more nations and more lag and more border gore
Because peace conference AI was, is, and always will be broken
It is.
The game is not banned in China. It is merely unavaliable through the Chinese version of the Steam Store
wikipedia says it is, that's all i've got
Many western games aren't avaliable on the Chinese Steam for various reasons, often due to China's strict censorship
Yes you can buy it through clandestine means. Doesn’t mean it’s not banned from official ones.
yeah, cause they banned it
Lol
Hey, check the source maybe?
This is talking about the original Hearts of Iron
playing the game is not banned, but purchasing it is banned.
Hoi4 isn't "banned" in China it's just unvaliable for purchase on Chinese Steam like many western games because they don't want to have to deal with Chinese censorship
There are some legal means to get it China, though most players will just pirate it from what I know
and your source is a reddit post saying that chinese players have found ways to get hoi4 other than steam, which it was banned from by the chinese government
Because piracy of western media is in general very easy and not prosecuted in China
first comment on that post:
By Steam
That doesn’t make it not banned, though.
proof? everything else says it was banned by the government
Certain psychodelics irl are illegal in most countries yet easily available. Doesn’t make them not illegal, for analogy’s sake.
The PRC’s government is very draconian in that sense.
In others too but let’s not get into that.
also technically steam is not supposed to be able to sell any games without explicit permission of the chinese government for that game. They ignore this, and so techincally the vast majority of games they sell in china are banned (since they are not permitted), but available on steam. the government does not stop this because they do not care about most of these games. In cases where they care enough, they enforce the rule, such as with hoi4. And in the most severe cases, they not only ban the game from Steam, but ban possession or playing of the game entirely (such as with Battlefield).
whats the next update gonna be?
It’s gunna be a patch for all the bugs
no i mean the next dlc
Prob something in the pacific
i hope so too
Luxanburg
Probably a tannau tuva tree before Australia
A South Asia + resource allocation re work would be peak
Peace conference should
All the main line dlc expansions are always amazing
Gotterdemarung and no step back were amazing
Got is only good post 40s
You ain’t buiding a naval facility in until 42
If Japan is reworked I hope we get Mongolian empire
Nah here is my idea
Or a schizo Japanese emperor of the world
Japan dlc with trees for Siam, Indonesia, Malaysia and phillipines plus add indochina
i hope they make co prosperity sphere somehting like mittleeuropa
Country pack for china, warlords and Mongolia states
DLC for USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand
And country pack Middle East-north Africa
Desperately need a turkey rework it does not hold up with new dlc
A dlc of just countries that capped quickly ie Albania
Not until bftb gets becomes a part or the game
Like non dlc
Like I said two years of stuff for paradox
Just because the country lacks online presence due to the ongoing juntas, doesn't mean that the country's WW2 history is not interesting.
You should read "Nusantara" by Bernard Vlekke sometime, especially the 1900-1941 section.
Greater Japanese Empire cosmetic formable like Greater German Reich should be a must.
Not every formables should core all of its required territories.
That still wouldn’t make it enjoyable. Wouldn’t be much fun playing British Malaya or Dutch East Indies with a focus tree.
The thing with Japan is that it is to an extent extremely vulnerable to RNG and snowballs
Current state Netherlands was relevant in WW2 yet very flawed and fundamentally boring without going into the alt history insanity pipeline like Belgium did.
Their focuses also suck but that’s besides the point.
The thing is Japan right now isn't half bad just extremely RNG and high skill floor
*Nusantara.
The present Indonesia is already the greater one, with the initial movement only advocating independence of Java and Sumatra from Dutch rule.
I just realized you made an Indonesia mod
Don't read Indonesian government official history books. Read Ricklefs' "A History of Modern Indonesia" instead
Yup. Two years worth of reading makes me realize that Indonesian history is much more interesting than the government official narrative.
oof
Fascist path is alright, communist path is alright but basically just fascist conquest, monarchist path basically only works if you get invaded, democratic actually alright cuz you can form eu
Dev diary today, please fix Afghanistan paradox 🙏
Instead u get operation head
Ideea for hungary democratic factio path
It should be able to form the EU
It's really empty
Just a faction and the joint FT
well the eu rn isnt very popular
in hungary
and i imagine it wouldnt have been back in 1930 either
This game is about imagination beyond the limits
cant it hold referendums to get back territory?
Hungary should always stay hungry!!!
a great hunger fr
Yea so hungary name dosent lose its meaning(sry for lame joke)
Hopefully they also fix communist India not getting all its advisors
Was playing communist India last night and just as I was about to beat Pakistan, Afghanistan puppeted them and ended the war.
hopefully they give pakistan ali jinnah as a leader when it is released rather than through focuses
Would be nice
they gave bangladesh a portrait for non aligned
yet its still called sultanate of bangladesh
It’s funny bc communist Uk let me free in my game. Yet they were still supporting anti communist Pakistan 😂
So busted
even though he wasnt a monarchist
crazy
Heck even Burma gets a few images
they dont change colour if they are freed
Burma has a female leader as communist I believe
and we dont get to see aung san unless game rules are set to asia uncolonised
actually the monarchist leader is a female
Oh cool!
honestly already a good setup for a southeast asia dlc
Release time?
No idea, I don’t work for paradox 😂
I said release time, not release date.
12th of march is 100% a time
Australia needed a rework
We didn't get a time chief, just a date
When man the guns gets integrated then we will probably see a australia rework
Commonwealth and all would be a cool theme
A lot of pacific puppets could use a rework
