Do you think official versions of hoi4 set in different times would be popular?

depends on what u mean by original and what the different times are

but the way hoi4 works wouldnt work in a like victoria era game

American Revolution: 1775-1783 (8 years)

the thing i like about hoi4 is the alt history and the empires you can form etc

but idk how that would work in a smaller conflict like the american revolution

or even the napoleonic wars since that was really just won with economy and not with actual like fighting like ww2 was

hoi4 is just production and warfare it really only works in ww2 imo

the game was designed around ww2

so just putting that exact same thing in any other war i dont think it would good for the game

If I'm not mistaken
late game game can be slowed due to each nation history always being checked even if they aren't on map (since they all have a history file), more divisions are active on map is another one as well. that isn't to say hoi cant have slight performance improvements like moving event triggers to on actions etc. (as its something recommend when making mods not to drain performance. )
this is a very dummy summary. I could go into more but I'm nothing of a expert.

could also just be something basic like your running the game in windowed or have seven hundred apps and google taps open

yeah everything contributes to it being laggy

but still i dont believe it should be this laggy

ofc it has a lot of calculations but most modern games are lot of calculations

Yeh the game is run on an engine from 2007 so that may be part of the reason

that's dumb most games use remitments of old engines or upgrade them extensively, like halo infinites engine still retains remnants of the blam! I dont say it uses the same engine as a 2001 title.

And thought… themed city builders are pretty cool. Diverse themes = content.
