Luxembourg focus treeš
Nah Liberia šš
Atlantic ocean focus tree
Bruh that is the best option I would die if paradox doesnāt do the Atlantic
Sounds good
But i still want benelux (in this case belgium+luxemburg) countries focus tree
me too
see you tomorrow morning!
Nope, Liechstein Empire
Nope, the Vatican
hello
Can't wait to balkanize scandinavia in the new dlc!
the new scandinavien dlc is gone be so good cant wait to play it
Pdx, please make at least one swedish focus related to ''grand strategy video games''
" Create Hearts of Iron: the Board Game " - Plus 2% War Support :')
hoi4 got updated today
Blucher was sunk by the Norwegians, not the Sweeds
is that the next dlc?
most likely from the video yes, but because i live in europe and hoi4 is american based (i think so atleast) itās gonna take a while for it to release in my time zone sadly
Pdx is a Swedish company
o
thank you i did not know that š
surprisingly even with over 500+ hours i didnāt know
Also they would release at the exact same time anyways
i want know too :v
yeah I think itās a Scandinavian dlc cause the buoy represents 9/4/40 starting the German invasion or Denmark and norgĆ«
Do anyone knows when the dlc release ?
Probs in ~2 months
sometime after today
Have you even seen the devdairies, likely too early for that
There's a focus in the Chinese "Invite foreign investors" branch that is basically that
Well I was just pointing out that they had the wrong ship sinking
Most likely a scandinavia update/dlc
nah
no
announcement
Prob an announcement
:C
Not an update
DLC, probalby out in like 3 months
Dlc next year
Bit less i'd say
April 9th
Expecting an update now is madness lol
Definitely not next year
probaly in like september or oktober
yeah unfortunately they do that
pre order will start in like july sometime probably
My hopes are on Scandinavia with possibly German rework
My hopes are hoi4 celeb tournament
Idc about Scandinavia that much but German rework would be perfect
I mean yeah, I would see communist tree for Germany
I wouldnt really bet on a germany rework though, would be a nice surprise though
I dont think germany is getting reworked , how would conpatability work?
A dlc that requires another dlc?
You either get to choose the tree in the game rules, or the new tree just overrides it and you wouldnt need wtt at all
a dlc rework would be needed for germany and japan
Or wtt gets freely updated
It needs to happen for every pre nsb nation
what happened?
nothing yet
Wdym
Were talking about the teaser posted
something is coming june 7th
It's only 12:00 for pdx
4 pm is about the right time i think
what's pdx?
Paradox
Finally we got something smart!
If we're finally get a Finland tree, the Germans will probably need some extra focuses to draw them in
nah, they will just add decisions
I'm pretty sure that was mostly finland's doing, not germany's
And even then, i wont consider 1 extra focus and maybe 1 decision to be a "rework"
No not a rework, but it might be the excuse they need to rework the Germans too
And the interactions with Sweden throughout the war (assuming Swedent gets a tree with the other Scandanavians)
They already have a good excuse
Germany needs a solid rework and now is probably the best time since they've modernised all of their neighbours
"As a pre NSB tree, this tree is dogshit and therefore is not in line with the quality of new trees we produce"
Lmao I agree
But then they changed the air designer in BBA, so it would have been outdated again
Now is the best time, since all mechanics have been implemented
Czechoslovakia, austria, benelux, 39 borders we have yugoslavia, hungary, i'm counting slovakia
All of those are by any means NOT modernised
France is on thin ice
Soviets and Italy I meant
Which are probably Germany's biggest concerns. The UK still holds up fairly well too
Czech and Austria are there to be annexed in historical, so I don't mind that they aren't fully up to scratch yet
True but it gets the job done, doesn't hamper most playthroughs
Same for the german tree
It's definitely fallen off lately
The lack of effective air power focuses is suprising given their strength at war start historically
But first DLC post-BBA is the perfect chance to fix that. Maybe refine the armour focuses too while they're at it
yeah, still "servicable"
just like the UK political tree
next batch of war effort patches could very easily focus on having old trees be more compatible with new mechanics
Are the war effort patches the free minor tweaks?
yup
I don't see them doing it just because they always add in 'free tree reworks' alongside paid DLCs
it's not like you need such big changes
But I don't see what takes them so long to update them, modders do them and make custom ones in no time
it would likely be less effort then the canadain marxist subtree
because theres just 1 or 2 guys making trees, 1 guy making fixes
it's a small team for hoi4
Are the focus trees not relatively simply to update though? I understand the core mechanics being hard to code but not the focus trees
they are that is why i said it will likely be a thing more for the war effor tpatches
in that case they would have never done the slight updates to the TFV trees
and guess what
they did
At none of your business oāclock
š„¶
holy shit
Will that what's coming be a nordic DLC perhap's?
idc what's coming but i have my credit card ready š
same
xD
I still my subscription
I thougth about buying the subscription few week's ago
a devdairy for yes
the dlc itself is a stretch
Ok
LESGOOOOOO
YYYYYEEEEESSS!!!
are they adding a equipment designer, I can't tell from the description
woooo!
did you try scrolling more than once
Paradox Finally Lost Humility
YESSS
Swedish Empire Focus when?
Finland im guessing?
good guess
finland is no doubt the main character
am i missing something?
2 trucks?
I say about damn time
sniper vs stalin arm against tyranny
i really hope BOP wont be as badly integrated as it was in BBA
Another dlc? Who could have thought lol
why does finland only have 1 starting spirit lmao
Probably will be more as development progresses
GUYYS WHEN DOES THIS DLC RELEASE??!
this autumn
they said autumn so probably around October
time to 1699 sweden
i have a hunch that they indeed are
To go back to an earlier dev diary, I have to giggle a bit.
One of the core design principles of HOI4 is that they'll never add money, but then I look at a chart like this for the international market and it feels like they're doing backflips to add money without actually calling it money.
civs are practically money
nah
#hoi4 #heartsofiron4 #armsagainsttyranny
Four Northern democracies are seemingly helpless against nearby predatory dictatorships. Despite their size, Finland, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden have a chance to avoid conquest through clever diplomacy or fierce resistance. Write a new history of the Nordic countries in Arms Against Tyranny, a new expan...
counterargument:
Achievement - Memories of the Hyperwar : "As Finland, nuke Seoul"
odd whats the new trailer about
i'd rather have it be just "invade" not "nuke" so you dont have to boringly sit around doing nothing waiting for nukes to research
btw why is finland non-alligned? werent they democratic at the time lmfao
2 trucks
They were kind of Democratic but them being Non-Aligned is accurate enough
it's looking like a mod, good
still no dlc that adds the infantry equipment designer?
as in they where qua military alliances non-alligned or they werent really that democratic
luckily, no
no reason for an inf equipment designer
No one needs that level of mirco
alr
tanks planes and boats are fair because of the many things you can do with it
but like, what would inf do
well more breakthrough and penetration
the current researches deo that perfectly
Finland army will be so op lmao
Add artillery to your templates
finland's balance of "power" seems a bit better then the bba version
i assume you just want to keep it at 1 place which sounds better then whatever the flipflop politics happens in italy
anyways, i still do not get how the HELL this makes them non-alligned instead of democratic
the memes of non-alligned will only get bigger
they now encompass anarcho communists, monarchists, dictatorships, and democracies
istg that you can find fascists aswell somewhere that are "non alligned"
I know itās a long shot but if this dlc gives us some Ireland content I will die
LIBERAL OMHGHHGGFDGGGF KILL HIM !
hmmmm no historical emblems of the finnish airforce, i wonder why...
isnt it a swastika
jup
Secret
I want to see too
Destroy all liberals
most in detail "join the allies" focus tree:
where u get high quality tho
jokes aside
imagine getting moscow but not leningrad
Why did i read "from the Soviet Unicorn"
Sled
Is the international market a part of the free update ? I hope soā¦
anyone like the artwork because i think it's amazing!
no i belive it's part of the expansion
i think the market will be free but the designer designers will be paid
just a guess though
there will be stuff in the free update
i guarentee you 1 of the big mechanics will atleast be mostly free
Stella Polaris update
everyone will just call it the AAT update
ig
wow
mostly š
just get richer
so when new dlc comes out, how long will it take them to fix the bugs?
depends whether they actually playtest it or have us playtest it like with BBA
This autumn
So Trotsky was in Norway in 1936, I wonder if we can get him in charge of Norway too
And maybe (hopefully) along with that a reworked mechanic to better show where Trotsky is and make it predictable when he will arrive in Mexico
Less RNG pls
when will dlc release?
Says in Fall so maybe last week of September, early October? Could take until late November knowing my luck tho
Guess it depends on how detailed they wanna go with these military industry reworks
Or also if they plan on dumping a bunch of tweaks to other countries along with this update too
FINALLY NORDIC NATIONS FOCUS TREE
i still waiting for south america focus tree
I wonder if they will rework how Iceland works, Iād appreciate if they made it to where they donāt join the Axis every third game on historical settings
Yes
Also
Germany needs rework
I want a Middle East and South East Asian rework
iran forming persian empire omg thats good
Do not forget the Benelux
Yeah Europe could still use Ireland, Belgium, and Austria
oh yeah luxembourg and belgium
and luxembourg
I am completely ambivalent to Luxembourg, like the meme, canāt care less though
What could Luxembourg actually do? They have no manpower
I would like Ireland tho, and itās completely absurd that BBA didnāt come with Austria and LR didnāt come with Belgium
idk for the memes
Then they'd end up wasting a lot of time and resources developing a meme nation that could be used on developing an actual nation that matters
I canāt wait for the winter war rework above all though, I love minor wars more than even WWII itself
Only one left after this I can think of would be the war of 41 (South America rework please)
Finland is gonna be absolutely cracked in the winter war
but not better add this on April fools?
South America will probably get some focuses with a U.S. rework
dont forget on liberian focus tree
xd
I mean, US focus tree sucks so..
I thought that said Iberian for a moment and was about to be like ābro itās $20 and thereās probs gonna be a sale later this monthā
U.S. and Japan have became the new "Italy and Soviet Union" with the bad trees XD
I donāt hate Japan, my biggest gripe with America is that I never bother with War Plans or half the military tree cause itās all 70 days
japan is just boring and bland
straight lines, not many focuses, not many interesting things either
Paradox discovering the balance of power mechanics
So the international market is part of the DLC and not a free update right?
It was vaugly worded
Apparently the international market will be free in the update
But, the MIOS dlc locked
Good
Uhh i can't confirm anything i just think that's how it will be
I would appreciate more flavor for Chinese collaboration governments, like making the Manchukuo AI do the focus to core all of China, maybe even the meme of Ottoman puppet ruling over Sinkiang, but more importantly Iād also like if they would make islands bigger for a more detailed war in the pacific, and a southeast Asian rework to bring flavor to that region would make me a happy Japan player
And I'm assuming the dlc will be $15 usd
Very optimistic of you
I wonder how hard AI Finland will fight when I play the soviets and go into the winter war
May make for a fun appetizer before Barbarossa
not too hard probably
it's still AI
True
But the cost of invading Finland will probably go up significantly
scandinavian dlc
my norwegian blood is boiling
I'm also gonna drop a bomb on someone if Vidkun Quisling won't be the leader of the Norwegian Nationalist party
Same here
Paradox on their way to screw over mods by making the game more complicated
Oh no!
Anyways
Is paradox just supposed to not update the game and leave it to mod makers only, like Bethesda?
Yes

Also hasnāt almost every update added tons of new back end stuff specifically for mod makers?
Forgive me if Iām wrong, Iām not a modder
not really
a lot of new things have been quite great and modders wouldnt be able to make them
and imo most new trees are still better then the mod average soo
I was being sarcastic in saying paradox should pull a Bethesda and abandon their titles
uhhmm in the Dev diary they messed it up ilmavoimat is finnish airforce and merivoimat is the finnish navy
and in the focuses
I bet it's gonna be 20 maybe 25
They have always done 20 euro so yeah
They got 4 countries coming though
Based on previous trends, this should fall in line with TfV or DoD-level DLC indicating about 24 NZD or roughly 15 USD
Nevermind itāa 16 NZD or 10 USD
10 usd is very low
But I can definitely see Paradox making it 20 USDā¦
I suppose, since it does have an entire designer
Until now 20 usd has been the standard
Hmm
I personally think it should fall into that lower price category
TfV is even older
Ye
And itās pricier
More different focus trees
BftB is 10 USD, which is the most recent no-major DLC
So I think this will be about 15 USD
Itās not a dlc itās a country pact
Thatās what paradox says at least
Hm
I mean, I think it should be 15 USD but Paradox could easily juatify 20 USD because designer or something
My guess is 20 usd due to it having 4 countries and from the sneakpeak of Finland we have seen, pretty in depth with another designer itās probably 20 usd
Yeah, my argument is mostly based on the lack of a major but as I saw with Stellaris thereās no set rules on pricing
So even though DLC without majors cost less in the past, it may still be 20 USD
I have played 2 paradox games and those are HoI4 and Cities and I have mostly seen 20 usd
Well most HOI4 DLC contain majors so
Major ā better focus tree
Japan is a major, Germany also
On release their focus trees were both 20
Now lowerd of course
I didnāt say they were better, just that they cost more
did the dlc drop yet
whoever is in charge of making the DLCs
should be fired
almost all of the new ones have been awful
and most of the majors are also awful
That's not very nice
nice job on the art devs1
im sorry but
lets be real here
the bulgaria focus tree
has more effort put into it
than the german and japanese focus trees
combined
Me when suojeluskunta became a fascist militia: šæ
the german focus tree is older than my grandma
What
isnt german tree 6 years old
i think they updated it sense, but i think the base is something like that
theve gotten a ton better over the years
but its all just free wargoals and some factories
even china and spain have more heart put into it
German tree is fine but the age shows when you compare it to newer ones
eh, ig for a starter country, but it should have something more than big army=free land
Germany should be the tutorial country
i thought the power struggle for the ss was a good idea, but it has litterally no use to me in all my germany playthroughs
like what if there was a seperate path where, idk, the ss takes over, or the generals cabnet, if you start loosing to the russians?
Ss takeover sounds cool i guess
or litterally anything... anything at this point paradox pls
Our cries for an updated germany will once more be ignored
Ethiopia got a focus tree so im pretty sure they dont take inspiration for new dlcs from reading discord
By all means critique the content, that's fair; perhaps drop the demands for firing people because they didn't meet your expectations.
other people liked most of them
Their expectations are low
The lack of a communist path is so stupid
Youāre right I should be more specific
The Bulgaria focus tree is one of the few trees done right
it allows players to choose which path they want to go down on multiple separate occassions
side with the monarchists, or the fascists, or the communists?
while at the same time
choosing one of these
doesnāt lock your gameplay for the rest of the game
you can still proclaim a bulgarian empire
you can still switch ideologies
another major reason i think its done well is because it gives players a reason to actually play singleplayer
Sorry but I donāt see democratic Germany declaring the greater German reich
players can reform past glories
they can gain cores through conquest
whereas other focus trees
donāt give you any motivation to do anything original
Why would a democratic Canada want to conquer the USA
they just force you to join the axis or the allies
you really canāt think of a reason?
Xanada and the USA were on good terms
I donāt see any great reason
perhaps they want to unite the americas
peacefully
which would require a political game
Why would they want to
that could last years
why would they want to unite north america?
are you kidding?
Canada would have the goal of uniting North America
The USA maybe with an other leader
yes democratically
But not Canada
alternatively if the united states decides to go down another path
Good luck convincing the Mexicans to be lead by Canadians
Yea
to secure their continental security
or⦠conquest, for the sake of continental security
democracies have done it many times before.
When the coalition attacked napoleonic France their goal was to put the king into power
good for them
Any examples?
countless
Gimme some
the US taking florida from the spanish
That was a purchase
Nah
taking the pacific islands
šššš
holding the panama canal
Thatās another war man
I say you said that was Spanish
no
Only reason possible is vancouver
ez
holding the panama canal assures that foreign powers cannot get around the caribbean without americaās approval
youāre getting far too tangential though
this is not even close to the point
Monitor doctrine
Monroe
the point is
these focus trees
have so much potential
and in the end theyāre just so dry
even the oneās with multiple paths
theres only one real outcome
no matter what path
you play as japan? you have literally nothing to do except war with the allies
(or maybe the soviets)
No?
Democratic Japan
democratic japan doesnāt do anything
you just sit there
True
Puppets from Europeans tho
?
yeaā¦
point stands
as both japan and germany
no matter what path you choose
the outcome is the same
same with russia
you either go to war with the axis or the allies
or both
never any variation
True
no matter what path you choose
What would you want from them then
You can say you donāt like it but got any alternatives
True
Yes
multiple outcomes
so
for germany
i think if you choose to go monarchist
other countries focus trees should change accordingly
Nah bro
one of the major problems
with the monarchist germany tree
is that it ends up being the same outcome as nazi germany
the soviets should be willing to compromise with you
and the allies should be more inclined to appeasement
so that you have more options
similar story for most focus trees
outcome never changes
the question of how to fix this is a little more complex
i think this can be fixed by allowing more factions to form
its always axis or allies or comintern
we need to see more factions happen more often
perhaps a latin union faction
between spain, italy, and romania
perhaps when this nordic DLC releases
we could see a nordic faction form more often
this way
majors who want to go about expanding territorially
or redrawing the borders through puppeteering
will have more fun
fighting unpredictably formed factions
rather than just fighting either the axis or the allies every single time
similar to how whenever japan attacks china, the chinese united front forms.
@untold sequoia there you go
problem: always the same outcome no matter what path you go down
solution: more factions form more often
nordic faction, latin faction, maybe even balkan federation
not much change even required to the focus trees
And this is pretty constructive - thank you. I think the difficulty is how open-ended you value the simulation being. It's a general problem with what focus trees are that mean it's difficult to have an authored narrative experience that also enable a dynamic, evolving gamestate. As things stand now, all the edge cases and different directions country A can go, have to be accounted for explicitly in country B's focus tree.
It isn't impossible to go some of the way, and I think broadly speaking we prefer newer trees to try and do that. The ones you mention as dissatisfying above are among the older generation of focus trees, and thus have a more dated design philosophy.
Ultimately it boils down to a balance between a player story driven by authored focus trees vs a player story driven by gameplay systems producing a procedural narrative. HOI(4) is definitely more of the former than the latter, and I don't expect that will change during the game's lifetime.
crazy how different beginning hoi4 dlcs like together for victory for victory compared to by blood alone or no step back.
There has been a lot of improvement
It's also interesting to remember that the fan perception of focus trees in the early days was extremely negative, to the point where it was hard to justify spending a lot of time on them.
They only really became their own thing after the game had matured for a couple of years.
So thatās the reason why earlier trees are so insignificant and forgettable compared to the newer ones then
Partly? New content systems have a way of taking a few releases to find their own identity. The same was true of mission trees we added to EU & Imperator, focus trees in HOI, and I expect also for the balance of power system too.
The very early focus trees had hardly any attempt at alt-history, for example
I agree, I personally think the Bulgaria focus tree is awesome, as well as the ethiopian one
and poland
Yeah the poland one is good but
Lets be real here
Poland still never survives
against the majors
There are good old trees and bad new trees
if you're playing them you likely ally with 1 side or appease them, and then they have imo one of if not the best tree ingame
I think death or dishonor is very meh: with them all have small to medium focus trees
Yeah so I think you summed it up well arheo but like i said its just a matter of making some other countries focus trees respond to others @untold sequoia
Do we know if the International Market is going to be a free or paid feature?
kinda hard with althist options though
Almost impossible more like
but it is something that can be done
not impossible
its as simple as starting somewhere
consider the hungarian focus tree
There are so many althist paths in the game and if they all have to interact with eachother
if hungary goes monarchist
and germany goes fascist
if germany invades hungary and puppets them
their focus tree should swap
from monarchist to fascist
not what i imagined when you said "other countries focus trees respond to others" but yeah
same for any cross-ideology puppeting
cause you play germany and get stuck with all your neighbors going down shitty focus trees
it ruins ur game
many such cases as many such countries
"deforming" formables should also be a thing then
wym
like if hungary forms austria-hungary
and you take all the AH land from them
they remain AH
despite being hungary
i want them to allow formables to be done even as puppets, i want to have fun and mega powerful puppets as germany or the soviet union or whatever
truth
some dont make sense
especialy germany, more reichscomisartiats please
id like if japan could make manchukuo core all of china as a puppet
THIS i brought that up earlier
pretty sure none are technically missing rn
thats fair, i mispoke
More reichskomissariats needed
did you know fascist japan puppeting the chukchi over in far eastern siberia will name it the Bering Strait Autonomous Zone?
for fantasy RKS that werent even conceived the best i could see happenning is having them be more "procedural" if that is the right word
"reichskommisariat (country name in german localisation)"
that would be fun
did not know that
Yes give the player the full generalpan ost larp
i need to make a whole post on suggestions asking for nation specific puppet names, like playing any China, puppeting the vladivostok sfr, and it being named Outer Manchuria would be fun
Should they be decisions instead of puppets made trough peace deals?
no i prefer puppets in peace deals when they already exist as releasable tags, but thats me being greedy and wanting to steal everyone's civilian economy and resources as war reparations
Thanks for Including us, Paradox ā¤ļø
That's where you miss the point
It was never about the people, it was always about conquering to benefit the companies
I don't think there has to be an "appropriate" reason, as long as it's somewhat logical (to the game's own logic and historical context) and fun.
There was defenitely no way whatsoever a return of the Byzantine Empire was a possibility in the 30s or 40s, but it can be somewhat logical in the game and surely it can be fun
yea
I beated the allies as germany and it's still 1939. How should I attack the soviets?
wrong channel? but build up an even bigger army, put it on the border, set general orders, and click go lol, soviet AI with no allied support usually eats rocks and dies
They didnāt mention any german rework does that mean no german rework?
Is Germany Nordic?
No
(Yes It Is)
Wait huh, germanic tribes now nordic?
Were the Nordic countries germanic tribes?
Is this a square and rectangle thing
germanic tribes were always nordic
vikings mixed with the germanic tribes extensively throughout the viking period
resulting in a large nordic influence
add onto that the fact that they literally bordered eachother for hundreds of years
north germans are fairly nordic as far as DNA goes
south germans much less
Okay, guess i was wrong
germany isnt nordic geographically
but north germans are somewhat nordic
as far as ethnicity
Okay, geographically they aren't Nordic but DNA somewhat
Almost as if Europe shares a lot of common DNA markers...
uhh yeah duh theyāre all the same
Germany doesn't need an update for now, maybe more flavor though
Finally we got Nordic update
yes and belive it ornot around 3 months ago i said i think the next dlc should have some thing to do with the nordic countrys
most are indo european but there are some uralic groups, then there r the turks and basque
The vikings interacted with everyone on the coast
I think they need a fix for their air focuses to match BBA at least
Did anyone else notice that in the new dev diary about finlands focus tree the first air and navy focus are wrong
Air force has merivoimat and the navy has ilmavoimat focus
known bug
reichskommisariat moskau and kaukakus please
nordic dlc?
dunno
they already are a thing
Anyone else thinks that the Finland focus tree has a very similar feeling to the Mexican one?
no not really
puppet georgia and the soviet union as germany, lower russia's autonomy by 1 and tell me what you see
Why to the Mexican one?
I think that all Scandinavian focus three will have similar parts/ways as Baltic focus three.
And one question about gun market will be that mechanics same to mechanics in Millennium Dawn (but with fabrics instead of money)?
great now they just need an asia rework
siam focus tree, japan tree rework, china tree rework, manchukuo fix, maybe even a mongolia tree
lol "just"
With this dlc
they added a focus tree to every country with an impact to the war
I hope they'll start to rework older ones from now
siam, some south american countries, iran arguably
South America should be last lol
didnt say they had to get trees but it's not all countries with impact
Should get British Malaya before Messiland
south america has limited potentional
I wonder, who are these people? I presume its norwegian soldiers
Altought the norwegian uniform did not look like that at all
Speaking of Norway I hope they make a reference to the battle of Narvik
First Allied major victory before the fall of France
Oh yeah that would be nice
Oh yes thats probably it, thanks!
I also wonder how they will make danish tree interesting, considering they were quite against nazi rule even after capitulation the historical part could be interesting.
Another power struggle thing? Come on...........
the new power struggle system should be implemented into old focus trees that have power struggles
such as bulgaria or greece
What people say they want: China and Japan reworks
What they actually want without knowing it: Mengkukuo focus tree to restore the Mongolian Empire
Not Mongolia like you'd expect
That tiny little Sino-Mongolian puppet state, master of all Asia
When a paradox game is announced, always pretend the release date is years later because thatās when the game is any good to play
iceland focus tree?
They will only have a small but strong army
Like Iām sorry, but this is the most broken thing Iāve think Iāve seen a focus do outside of Prussia of the Balkans
Finland probably won't have the greatest industry, so I think that balances it out
This is still incredibly broken
Their focus tree is justā¦.holy shit
I get that we havenāt seen it fully, and things can change
But just looking at it, it makes Prussia of the Balkans pale in comparison to what Finland can do
Idk what 100% piercing mean, probably like double the piercing you already have
This is all WIP, values are still up to change
Hopefully they will tweak any excesses
Pretty sure the stats are sky high so a soviet player against the ai suffers against the finns
i feel they should of gotten a tree in together for victory. i dont know why they didnt
It's reasonable that they didn't. Malaya doesn't exactly do much
It would get pretty bad buffs to explain the fall of singapore š
Wouldn't that need to apply to Britain though, since it's mostly their troops
How do people view the national focuses on the unreleased DLCs?
i think it looks good so far
however
one issue
the focuses mostly seem to be 70 day focuses
considering the winter war starts early
i feel like theres gonna be a bit of an issue
with timing
Yeah
Yeah
Oh ok
he did a vid on it
South America has as much potential as Middle East, maybe even a little more:
- The two largest nations in ME are Iran and Saudi Arabia, both have mostly oil to offer in terms of resources, maybe a few other resources (like chromium), and the latter's population is pretty low (two populations combined, in 1939, was around 17 million, Saudi Arabia alone was just 2,5 million); other independent countries are Iraq, Yemen, Oman, and Afghanistan (the latter only if it is accounted for in a possible ME expansion); rest of ME are colonies.
- South America has 9 nations, region is overwhemingly independent (exceptions are the Guyanas); total region population around 85 million, a lot of possible resources (should have more minerals and more rubber).
- Iran, largest ME nation, with 14 million population in 1939, has oil (needs more) and should have chromium; was basically invaded by British and Soviet armies, so that was the WW2 involvement (direct and active involvement definitely has to be a possibility).
- Brazil on the other hand, largest SA nation, had a large population (around 40 million in 1939) and should have lots of resources (more rubber, steel and aluminium); had direct participation in the war, sent troops to fight against Axis in Europe (historical participation was rather low, a bit under 26K soldiers -- technically, though, contribution was higher than Mexico's, who got a great Focus Tree in MtG).
- ME expansion might have the chance of changing Egypt into a British puppet at game start (historically accurate), which would add one more playable big nation to the ME.
- Both regions' countries would likely play pendularly between Allies or Axis, or just fight over supremacy in their own regions, or maybe establish their own factions with their own interests; Countries of both regions might use their international trade and diplomacy in order to develop and/or militarize themselves as well as use the World War in favor of their own interests.
If SA gets trees they should all get trees at once though, the region isnt interesting enough to have multiple dlcs nor should really be split up
We release developer diarys on the forum ^^
I know it would be hard to market as a DLC but do you lads think it's possible pdx is going to work on actually improving the ai in the next updates? I don't want to sound like a jerk but it's been seven years now, and the ai can't properly handle multiple fronts in a war, division templates or not mass assaulting against my frontlines
Would it be perhaps possible to utilize some form of machine learning to "train" the ai?

no
the AI code thats available is too basic to train it on certain specific scenarios Id think
oh well, thanks for answering at least
gonna start inhaling hopium for hoi5 i guess
ah i just imagined that with UK having better ai, it will probably spam more naval landings and just be more annoying than soviet union xd
but that would be good, right?
imagine a proper ai that does proper naval invasions
you'd actually have to invest into a westwall and keeping a part of the airforce in france to counter bombings
Doubt that hoi5 is coming in the next 5 years
hoi4 is still the most played paradox game so why would you actually need a hoi5?
it's called an improvement, so yes
oh yeah i was just saying it as in "whenever hoi5 happens"
don't really think it would be a smart move for pdx to start working on it for the near future at least
Totally fair
No point in givin SA so much flavor
A single expansion, probably with unique trees for bigger SA nations and new "generic" for smaller nations, could be awesome
hoi4 is running out of content that can be sold, its what keeps people coming back, while its growing popularity a lot of that success can be attributed to keeping the players interested. While they can do rereworks after max another 3 more dlcs after the Nordics (if they really were devoted to giving SA, Middle East, and South Asia focus trees.) Paradox saying they are going to rerework DLC would probably cause controversey, to the previous dlc owners of the first rework and how they would go about rereworks.
also while hoi4 doesn't really need a hoi5, the dlcs market is definetely getting bloated
what's this about greenland and iceland trees
I mean, dod and tfv's trees are so utterly terrible that a new dlc that gives them trees is practically their "first" go of trees
What about it
It likely wont be anything that grand, like the ethiopia releasables trees
Hoi4 will receive new dlc as long as people keep buying
The only point I can make in favour of South American content is that Mexico's alt-history paths are fun. Otherwise there are only two interesting countries in the entire Americas within the setting of the game.
Besides, there are other priorities after the Nordic countries get content. South East Asia, the Middle East and North Africa and even a guerrilla warfare system to make Yugoslavia and the East African campaigns fit closer with historical events.
Pan spanish americanism
Would it be worth a country pack to flesh out existing alt-history like Gran Colombia and the United States of Central America? The more I think about it, the more I doubt it.
If ALL of them are in 1 pack i'm more neutral to it, and probably not central america but purely south america
I just think a middle east and south america dlc is going to be a VERY VERY hard sell
We peoples of the third world crave game content centered around ourselves
I can see another opportunity to improve the game, aside from adding unique content into SA (like Mexico's case):
It might be an opportunity to "nerf" United States, since a SA expansion would be located in western hemisphere: US and SA suffered somewhat jointly the maluses of the Great Depression since their economies were so intertwined; it may be an opportunity to give a bigger economic challenge to the US and to let SA nations play this situation in favor of their development; the US should begin more economically dependent on SA nations (rubber and aluminium from Brazil, oil from Venezuela, steel from Chile, factory production granted from selling to SA nations, etc.), so if SA nations decide to turn their backs on USA, it should hit the latter hard.
When's the next sale
nah always preorder get the bonuses
there's a reason why they give the bonuses
nah fr tho i need it day one for multiplayer otherwise people should wait
don't you know you can play the dlcs in multiplayer if the host has it?
He probably is the host
well yeah but you gotta test all the new stuff out
Bruh I said sale not pre order
Late June, summer sale
yeah but you just reminded me of it
hoi is in my opinion in a strange state, usually paradox games get like 7-8 dlcs but this game is very popular and I don't see it getting a sequel anytime soon.
I just want more releasable tags, honestly
It's not a proper endgame HOI4 run until I release all my puppets and look at all the pretty colors on the map
i feel like as long as the engine problems are not debilitating the devs will probably try to pump out a bit more content
but it is also true that they are kinda running out of stuff to add and sell i guess? So maybe the next step is small reworks for free and paid country expansions (like the turkey dlc), which kinda don't sell as well as big dlc's that add content for all nations so yeah
Stellaris has had dramatic improvements without going to a new version of the engine so HOI4 should be able to have some improvements as well
what do you ppl reckon are going to be the next dlc mechanics about? We pretty much have all the designers possible now
Tank, air, navy and company designer
Maybe they will add a better law system with some sort of "development" mechanic? Kinda like tno and PaxBrit and whatnot
Well, we have to consider what the countries might be
And for that we have 3 very distinct areas
South America, Middle East (the one I want), and South-east Asia
damn i totally forgor about SEA
eh, maybe the devs can still milk a few big dlc's i guess
South-east Asia might have that law system you mentioned, since they had quite dramatic resistance against Japan and then afterwards, Europe
Middle East could possibly be about political manouvreing and allow for democracies to justify war (So that we can actually invade Iraq and Iran historically...)
Not sure for South Ameria
maybe South America gets an internal influence mechanic or something? Maybe a special forces rework cause of the forests/mountains and brazil?
Yeah, possibly. Making special forces matter more would also work well with the concept of sending small groups of soldiers far far away
I still think south east asia should be first, considering they had the most impact on ww2 out of the three
That and a japan rework would be nice
I do too, but then again, potential is also a strong consideration. And I think of all of them, Middle East has the most potential
South America is just... awful to fight in. And South-East Asia is too domineered by foreigners. Any war will trigger a war with everyone
Though, out of all this, the baltics should've been last š
I mean they were pretty good for being the Baltivs
And it was pretty thematic. If anytime the Baltics got trees, it would have been with the USSR
eh, feel like they can prolly squeeze that in tbh
they'd have to make focus trees for:
Vietnam (prolly cambodia and laos get smol generic ones)
Dutch east indies
British Malaya
Siam
Burma (again smol generic tree)
Eh, i feel confident they can do a good job
nah man
switzerland
the baltic relatively makes sense
Hey, China got content alongside Germany in the same dlc š
They'd probs do a 'French Indochina' thing instead of individual trees for all of them
yeah meant that as vietnam sry
maybe the constituents get trees like the ethiopia releasables
Yeah, Walking the Tiger was odd. It was like "Heehoo East Asia gets content and huzzah"
"Oh and Germany's there as well"
My ethincity bias cutting in here to hope for them to add Japanese korea
I doubt it, but you can keep hoping
i feel like if they want to appeal to more players they'll prolly do a middle east one?
I think South America would be the best bet if they just wanted more players
yeah man imma be real with you
doubt that's gonna happen
but hey, kaiserreich and kaiserredux have cool trees i think?
Kid named Portugese takeover Brazil
also somewhere the devs prolly need to squeeze a doctrine rework i think?
I remember in a mod that gave Brazil a focus tree
We were playing that in multiplayer and I just so happened to be playing portugal
and i guess, since i heard they want to add it, south america could have the armored car designer? realistically their armies employed them cause no money so it kinda makes sense?
Well I bloody hope so
Than despite a player playing a brazil, I completely got rid of them after a few focuses š
i think it's rt56
i hope they take notes from BlackIce and World Ablaze in how to make doctrines tbh
i love their way of doing it
How did the Brazil player feel
very suprised
Yeah I wonder how paradox would fix that if they added a south america dlc
Based on their track record, they wont
The portugese focus tree lets you start a civil war in Brazil, if y'all didn't know
than you can annex and core it
paradox fix?
nah man that's up to us
we still waiting for the italian balance of power fix right?
the one where if you lose a province in the mainland you start getting close to a civil war and does not stop even if you retake the tile and even form the friggin roman empire
Remember when paradox put out a poll on which set of dlcs they should put on sale?
They really trolled us on that one
Making the next dlc based on a democratic process would be such a good idea
Maybe democracies wouldn't just be 'hurdur we good guys'
I mean democracy in real life š
true
there should be an actual elections system
instead of "change leader and get bonuses"
why post tno here

When will that dlc come
Yo, it's probably a big stretch
But what if this new expansion called "Arms Against Tyranny" ends up adding unique trees for Austria and Albania?
Even if just rather small ones, but to give those nations some opportunity to fight back against invasions from Germany and Italy respectively
At least I feel like it would be in tone with the DLC's proposal, and might even be somewhat similar to what devs might be going to do with Denmark ā either stand down and let troops walk in or resist the invasion and hinder/delay the plans of the invaders even if you're doomed to lose
Albania and Austria could fit in a little battle for the bosphorous like dlc, but they are not Nordic and the steam page does not mention either
Also you can already fight back as the Austrians and Albanians, the default focus tree is better than nothing and can let you somewhat rush nukes and aircraft
Yeah, up until now I used to think of a smaller dlc that would center around Austria, Albania and Belgium
But, well, who knows
This new thought just popped on my mind considering the whole theme of the new expansion announced
Lol Albania go into nuclear arms race
Albania has no potentional, an ok default tree for all nations would give them the most benefit possible
Like what would you want to do?
"Demand kosovo" and just be told no?
"Join italy" which would just be an AI focus which makes italy save up on a focus?
That's pretty much it
Obviously Albania is the descendants of Illyrians and Illyria is basically Croatia and Croatia became part of Yugoslavia so they should become Yugoslavia but Yugoslavia was also going to unify the Balkans so Albania should get all of the Balkans and the Balkans are a major power of Europe so really they should get foci to establish dominion over Europe
Albania has as much potential as the baltic states
The baltics have 3 big things, just uniting it, polish-lithuania, and finno ugra
Name me atleast 2 things albania is in the position to do
Ancient larp(thraco-dacia,illyria,etc),uniting the balkans, greater albania(parts of yugoslavia+epirus)
Ancient larp would make no sense as there arent really any ties apart from "in the region"
Albania wasnt in the position nor hsd the interest of uniting the balkans unlike bulgaria and yugo
Kosovo as 1 focus sure, epirus i'm not sure has much reason apart from "is near albania" because iirc it was basically just greek
A revised default tree with 1 or 2 extra focuses would be more then enough
Greater Albania is an irredentist and nationalist concept that seeks to unify the lands that many Albanians consider to form their national homeland. It is based on claims on the present-day or historical presence of Albanian populations in those areas. In addition to the existing Albania, the term incorporates claims to regions in the neighbou...
1.There were a lot of crazy theories about the origins of the albanian people at the time
Given their uniqueness
That really just looks like "f it we just want everything around us"
Thatās nationalism for ya
Also the regions did have
Very big
Albanian communities
At the time
Even tho they were pretty much in the minority
Northern montenegro?
?
Cham Albanians or Chams (Albanian: ĆamĆ«; Greek: ΤĻάμηΓεĻ, TsĆ”midhes), are a sub-group of Albanians who originally resided in the western part of the region of Epirus in northwestern Greece, an area known among Albanians as Chameria. The Chams have their own particular cultural identity, which is a mixture of Albanian and Greek influences as well...
The parts between montenegro and serbia
What are you asking me?
And iirc albanians are like
The descendents of illyrians
That they where even there
Bssically everyone in the balkans are
If they reworked the default focus tree i could see 1, 2 or maaaybe 3 focuses for "greater albania"
.... but tbf kosovo should be a core from the start anyways and such
So eh
Maybe a "formable" if you control a few of those states which will only change your name
Albanians in Montenegro (Albanian: ShqiptarĆ«t e Malit tĆ« Zi; Montenegrin: ŠŠ»Š±Š°Š½ŃŠø Ń Š¦ŃŠ½Š¾Ń ŠŠ¾ŃŠø, romanized: Albanci u Crnoj Gori) are an ethnic group in Montenegro of Albanian descent, which constitute 4.91% of Montenegro's total population. They are the largest non-Slavic ethnic group in Montenegro.
Albanians are particularly concentrated in sou...
Pretty sure the cosmetic tag is already in the game
Italy can support albanian irredentism
Which is what they did irl
But at the end of the day there isnt much, MUCH less then the baltics as they can atleast do things with eachother
With albania you max have like
Invading AI greece
(The number was much higher in 1936)
Eh like
Ethiopia got a tree
And its only purpose is to be a roadbump for italy
If Ethiopia is a roadbump, Albania is dried-up gum on the road
Even ethiopia has more potentional
A closer example of albania would be unironically luxembourg
2.Albanian communists were interested in a balkan federation
Best you can do is demand land from your neighbour who will stomp you unless they are AI
And you can propose to unite, but the others will at best laugh at you because of which country you are
They might not be āin the positionā to achieve it,but neither is ethiopia in the position to unite africa nor is hungary in the position to restore ah
You could like
Boost communism in other countries
If Albania tried to conquer another country the other country would probably end up dominating Albania
I mean
With the communist path for ethiopia
Even if you play it perfectly it takes till 58 or so to unite africa
Until 1976
Iirc
And thatās assuming you get perfect rng
Albania should be able to unify the balkans.... if you play till 68 then
Also I like how you semi unironically used this to justify Albania tree
Illyria isnāt ājust croatiaā
Hungary came from siberian mongolic tribes so obviously hungary should be able to revive the mongol empire and core all of siberia
Almost like I'm making a satirical argument with no basis in actual historical content
Turan moment
I hate how inconsistent paradox is on cores
Like
The ussr canāt core the baltics
Or western ukraine
Or western belarus
But turkey can core siberia and lithuania can core crimea
Yeah it's dumb, more cores ingame should be replaced sith compliance boosts and maybe some coring if compliance os high
I kind of understand why itās done?
Unless it was rt56 i could in my game
Like lithuania wouldnāt be able to do anything
Without the extra cores
But it wasnt becausr of my focus but because of poland's focus to accept the move west
They did that with poland-lithuania
If you try forming it via decisions
You need 80 compliance
Yup, which is pretty good if there was a compliance boost
Which I doubt youāll even be able to get
Rn it's a bit too headachy
Since you get no compliance gain boost
Bulgaria and Yugoslavia as well later

so annoying
Maybe the same could be said of Switzerland, of the Baltic nations, of Denmark...
Yet, they all getting their unique content
It's fun having different things to do with different nations, even if it's a handful of stuff
It takes a lack of eyes to not see those nations having much more potentional then albania
Albania is much more comparable then luxembourg then those
When does Arms against tyranny come out
77.77.2077

months
they say autumn
Arenāt they literally following the BBA schedule
The reveal trailers for both are on both June 7
oh man D:
Bully the Italian ai
That's not a focus
Italy can puppet yugo which has Kosovo
Which has alot of Albanians
Maybe they annex montenegro for a fascist path
Ok.... and?
I believe they've confused "Baltic" and "Balkan"
what was the 10mb update today guys?
Good afternoon, tell me if there are approximate release dates for the new DLS?
Not trying to be negative or anything but I swear some modder could make this update in a week, why make us wait so long :C
I want my sweden focus tree NOW
Devs are making an entire international arms market you know
They better make the neutrality act for the US completely limit the US having access to it until the lend lease act for historical reasons.
If I remember correctly, a part of the neutrality is not being able to sell arms to countries
Also I do know the Czechs sold a ton of weaponry and they could possibly update their arms export focus to where they gain more civs or something like that
still, someone could do that in a week, people are crazy xd
If a mod is buggy, people don't play the mod, if the game is buggy and broken, they review bomb the dlc and stop playing the game
they have to optimize it for all systems
bba showed this pretty good
yeah
