The only "Struggle" i could see for Germany would be a more interactive Army vs Party struggle outside of what you get with the Recruiting for the SS divisions. I agree that in general they're kind of lame to rely on but it could make a "historical" play through a little more interesting later on.

Did the new patch do something to the guarantee AI? I was trying to get the Finnish him achievement for the last 2 weekends and could reliably form the Nordic Empire as Finland without getting the allies involved.
Now I did 4 unsuccessful runs because the UK goes out of its way to guarantee Denmark/Norway. I even tried to make them blow their PP on guarantees for other countries but it doesn't work anymore.

Playing the Open Beta as UK and went for the Global Defence Branch. Home Defense got hidden but when rearranging the branches you get to decide between „Maintaining the Balance of Power“ and „Embargo the Soviet Union“ instead of „Maintaining Imperial Integrity“. The whole Imperial Integrity Branch seems to go to the Backrooms with the new hiding branches mechanic. Dont know how it is with other branches and majors but would recommend further optimizations before releasing this patch.

tbh I don't think all countries need big "reworks" or extensive focus trees. Not every country is in a position to actually make that transition from minor to major or has an interesting enough history where an alternate might be relevant.

I don't see why more approaches aren't taken like just giving Ireland a decision to seize Northern Ireland and/or raise up militias. It would be relative minimal effort, have minor effects on the overall play experience of other nations, and would shift regions like South America from being a static lump all the way from 1936-1999.

Instead, there's a lot of "reworks" that involve a tree twice the size of the Soviet Union and more political choices than there is population, and I'm left there scratching my head thinking "I chose Honduras, right?".

Creating possibilities that allow us to go beyond Historical limits, or at least expand inside the boundaries, is one of the things about this game. Latin America is big, and has big countries that have a lot of history behind them, as well as interesting potential (say, uniting south american nations against US domination, by eaither joining Germany's cause or leaning towards a Soviet sphere of influence).

The problem is exactly that though. Going from puppet to independence using the autonomy system. Good luck getting ai UK to build in your land so you can produce enough to go through the system quickly. At least how it is now is you can just build a bunch of dockyards in every coastal Egypt state and when you release and play as them, just set it to build convoys. Trying to build that as Egypt without the UK Economy (also remembering they’d get a bunch of your factories as your overlord) would just drag out an already dull achievement

I just don't go for achievements in hoi4, so I didn't worry much about that.
I was more concerned about the coherence in itself (and the possible fun of playing as a freer Egypt in a strategically important place), cuz it's weird that Egypt is treated as fully occupied territory when it certainly had more autonomy (tho limited) than a colony under more direct british rule such as the British Raj

Yeah can’t deny that Egypt being direct controlled is odd given their special protectorate status that they had after getting yoinked from the ottomans. I wonder if it’s partially cause of how the suez works in game mechanics wise

Like if you’re playing a country and have Egypt as a puppet controlling the suez, you have to call them into war for enemy navies to lose access. Can’t just leave your puppet at peace cause then the suez stays open to the enemy from what I remember

Sounds about right for Hoi. That and let’s be honest. The continuous solid red from the Middle East down Africa is aesthetically nice. Adding an Egypt puppet in as a separate nation would interrupt that flow and that flow is half the appeal of map games lol

I am sure that AI is the main issue surrounding Egypt and Suez
Devs probably thought of this and might have even attempted it, but the best solution I can think of (and the most accurate one), that is if Egypt was made a puppet, would be to give control over Suez itself to the British whilst giving Egypt an autonomous position (based on that, demanding control over the Suez as Egypt, either through focus or decision, could be a roleplay and strategy option); otherwise, the solution would be to force british and egyptian AI into aligning and then closing the Suez, but that sounds more like a mess, especially in a non-historical scenario...
