It's not that hard. Screens (CLs and DDs) are shield, capitals + carriers are sword. Sword does killing, shield protects sword. Naval bombing can supplement by adding loads of torps to the battle. Spotting and speed are essential to engaging on favourable terms.

you don't need to. They spread out a lot, especially if you can bait them with a small group of ships/subs/italians
