I was playing some non-aligned Italy the other day, and it really just strikes me how much the historical Axis needs Italy - not necessarily because of their troops (although the Franco-Italian push has nearly wiped out the Reich already), but because of how many fronts they open up. With Allied Italy, there is no battle in North Africa, there is no Ethiopian front, and there are no French troops in Savoy or Corsica, and naval dominance of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic is assured (since all major naval powers in the area are Allied).
Germany didn't even get to try the Anschluss.

@scenic pulsar apparently you can choose to have a japanese noble as your monarch when electing a king. if you set the Japanese AI in the custom rules to have Hirohito assassinated in their tree, once you install the japanese monarch, you will annex and core all of Japan, making a British-Japanese union, while also inheriting all of their navy and army

having a small or moderate deficit of coal will not kill you, especially since uve strengthened ur country in the game rules. it only somewhat impairs construction speed and factory output, but if you have industry buffs and/or your coal deficit isn't too significant, youre completely fine

it wont have much of an effect

you can also create energy grids in ur tiles with a lot of factories to reduce coal use

or just build civs, get more industry buffs from focuses, sell equipment for civs, and research more industry tech to trade for more coal and/or make up for the construction speed debuff

pro tip: this is why i usually just set up a naval invasion against britain and activate it as soon as the war starts - if i can. you have a window to just get a naval invasion off on them for basically free - only low dominance required - if you do it right as the war with them starts. you will likely lose a lot of your ships, but you can steal their's after. I always do 2-3 landings - one in dover, plymouth, and either hull or portsmouth. concentrate your entire navy and set them on patrol where its required at least a few days before the war starts to make sure u have the sufficient naval dominance. at least one of your invasions will always land if you do this - sometimes it's not even garrisoned. make sure to set your most likely successful landing to force attack once they start a battle if needed.

Yeah well i set field marshal orders and didnt declare war on them until i had max planning but for some reason even though i had enough floating harbours and enough dominance and 4 cruisers on invasion support both marshals never did anything and i ended up losing the navy, now i have 1500 naval bombers just lighting up their entire navy, 2-3 months im gonna have some advanced destroyers and subs should be enough (i hope)
