Yep, that's your issue. You can change the location of your mods folder from the launcher
You can also move individual mods around as long as their descriptors in the mod folder point to the correct place

Reason i want out of steam is because some apps or foreign files are blocked from opening so i need to ask permission first and i have to do that for every steam game, workshop or even wallpaper from wallpaper engine.

so to get mods enabled one thing to do is go to C:\Users\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV and delete the "mod" folder and "mod_registry.json"

Has anyone found a fix for the launcher issue on Linux? I can run the game normally, but the launcher itself refuses to work. This leads into not being able to DL workshop content and easily toggling DLCs/mods.
So far I am not coming up with anything on Google.

Delete the mod folder
Delete the mod.registry.json (however you spell it)

How does that work?
The issue it is having, is that steam installs the launcher installer itself, and when you press "play" via steam, it does not run the launcher, it runs the installer for the launcher. You can tell this very clearly by seeing that the window open showing my error log says its title is "Paradox Launcher v2 Setup". This means, that steam is attempting to launch the Paradox Launcher Setup. The launcher is being set up by the launcher set up. The set up is not installing the launcher itself.

I have verified the files, i have re downloaded the game. But ever since 1.8 every time i launch the game (from the launcher) it crashes and i cannot play the game.

You might be able to just fix it by transferring the paradox launcher onto your games drive
well, delete the paradox launcher, download it again onto your games drive
or what you just said, xfer hoi4 onto your OS ssd

yeah, whoever wrote the code to choose file directories didn't take other drives into account I guess. There's probably a setting in the paradox launcher you can change to point it to the right place. Im at work so can't check myself

@ancient orbit i had something similar only it happened thru all my paradox games, could only launch via game files and not thru steam. I went to my Antivirus and restored the missing files via there. My Paradoxlauncher was dead. Perhaps it gamended another file for you

how on earth do I load mods that I've installed locally in my /mod/ folder? Mods through the steam workshop work perfectly fine, but whenever I launch the game with a manually installed one, it either crashes half-way through loading or flat out just loads vanilla

We had the same problem with Kaiserreich and probably PLPC, maybe related to switching game versions.
Try to delete all the .mod files in your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod folder. They'll be rebuilt when you start the launcher.

@wind cove I believe Radeon was having problems with the Drivers not too long ago? Maybe want to look up how to fix the last update (which had a few bugs that managed to slip through) there is a fix for that, I recall seeing a video about it

What would be a good computer system for hoi4, like what would be the minimum kind of requirements to be able to play hoi to very late game and have to still running smoothly, I am currently using a GTX 1050 2GB and an Intel i5 3450 with 16 GB of some sort of ram with I believe a speed of 2400 GHz, when I play hoi with no mods the game starts losing speed after 1940 and by 1944 is very unpleasant to play I am not a conoasseur for computer or technology in general so I do not know really know this myself, thanks.
