Ive only tried watching one of his portugal guides and he couldnt get the right rng on something so he save scummed in the video, he ended up loading a save where the rng procced correctly. Pretty terrible "guides" if you have to do that

what youre probably trying to do is turn a basic tank SPG into an improved tank SPG (chassis/basis/research of tank)
this is not possible, the game (vanilla) only allows it on same chassis (same tech level) vehicles
road to 56 is different in this and so youll see that in videos

One heavy Tank per div with a lot of armour should work. Probably not in 1937, but by 1939 you should be able to equip a few Divs. Defensive Divs should just be pure Infantry. Unless your eco is so tiny it's really only like 5 mils then you can't.
Also unsure about the math, but maybe you can design a scout light tank to have enough armour
Then you'd at least need very little Tanks to boost a div

I made progress, I took over like the whole china, Nanjing and Chonqching, but I couldnt push to wuhan, they defended it like crazy, then they started to push back, and took back chonqching. Then I gave up. I had like a field marshel full of infantry, 4 tank divs, 4 ranger divs, and 5 motorized. And like 1k Fighters and 300 CAS, but yet they still won.

I said heavy Tank bc you can research it in 1936 and start producing it instead of gun 1. One Medium SPG can probably even be better, but the better Arty gun is 1940 tech.

also another tip, if you give into russia, you could possibly lose a bunch of industry if you got the east powerful, but if you give into germany, you lose naval access, which can be important if you are import dependent

You may build some medium flame tanks and light tanks for the support companies of future offensive divisions (big inf and/or mountaineers/rangers with support hospital, superheavy howitzer (engineers until then), arty, medium flame tank, light tank recon - stack breakthrough on light tank and medium flame tank companies)
