yes. They get massive damage and lose a lot of manpower and equipment. Just remember that attacking through nuclear wasteland is painful as well.
but do the divisions disappear?
The US has like 300 divisions accross my mexican border and i wonder if i could just eradicate them completely
afaik divs can't disappear. But they can become so weak that a single click into them whipes them
hm
what about mass paratrooping in third row, nuking the front and than pushing them from both sides to make them disappear
also nukes have splash. Be careful not to hit yourself :D
yeah i would just let my allies tank the nuke and move in afterwards
what are good infantry templates?
But heavey fighter is still medium right ?
A heavy fighter is a medium airframe
Ah ok got it
I have 4 rows of 15 civs my building of mills is going slow as Iran and I lack many power it takes a lot of time to get PP I’m in 1942 now man power is still going slow up any suggestions what I should do ?
only thermonuclear nukes do, and they wipe entire regions which can be funny to look at when launching a nuke in siberia where 500 km of land are wiped clean of troops
Hello, its reccomendable as GER to start the war with a Divison of mediums like 4-5 mediums at first, but keep increasing the numbers as the war starts or better to start with 8 mediums?
Also if i start war in 39-40, its better to way for mediums, or i shouls invest in lights for the first years of the war?
You want to use mediums regardless. You can beat Poland and France with 4, but more are ofc always better.
these decisions are beyond useless
You can try to do the Missions for Mussolini, but only do what is required there. Not all decisions are usefull, so look out what you click :D
Thanks
Also just to be sure. You mean like 4 Tank divs on the field. Or do you mean like 4 Tank Battalions in a Template?
Oh wait yeah
For the first things i mean batallions
Ah, you really want to have your template mostly done for war. 8 Mediums and 8 Mech is what you ideally have. You can have some of the Mech be horses, but you don't really want to compromize on the Tanks bc that's all your stats.
no
you can make interwar mediums its not hard
If you don't have the xp consider hiring your army advisor sooner and joining more civil wars
Hello everyone, I have a question, it’s been a while since I played hoi4, and now that I’m back I’m getting interested about knowing the game with more depth, my question is a bit general but how do you organise your army ? what do you do with it so it becomes strong ? what stats should I focus when organising or reforming an army ? I’m talking about ground army
Unless you're fascist, annex
Ussr can get insane buffs with comecon puppets but unless you do non traditional strats you won't get comecon until 1943
The first step into getting a strong army is getting a strong industry and if you can't get that you won't have a good army
Try and see if you can get 300 factories as ussr with mils starting on June 1938 (the latest you should start building mils as ussr)
Then you can try to make "meta" divisions in pins
how people get tank divisions on early game? i always have <12 on 1939 and i want moooooore
which air sub doctrines are the best?
How exactly does the game decide if a mod is a “cheat” and disables achievements
aren't archievements disabled when you are not in ironman mode ?
I would say it doesn't detect anything
If you use some mods it disables achievements regardless of if you’re using Ironman or not
didn't know that
I didn't even know some things were considered cheating since it's mostly single player
and why would there be "cheating" mods if you can access the console at any time ?
I don't know enough about cheating in this game
Is armor meme still used vs AI or there's another better strat?
I know that people still put a super armoured tamk destroyer batallion in their templates
what are good colonial division templates
tysm
18 width inf is usually fine
Support companies?
what do you mean colonial divisions? like a garrison template?
Divisions to fight in Africa
oh
question, if I put a division using the defend area command, does it help to reduce the resistance level in that area or no?
yea
camelry/ca
ca
cav
depends where in africa but usually i do slightly smaller then my normal inf
with support and logi
btw allies dont defend africa at all
so u will have no problem there
The British put light tanks in there all the time when I try to take the Suez Canal
just encircle them and take the ports
they cant do shi
but let me guess
you are getting destoyed by royal navy?
units to garrison the colonies against uprisings duh
no it dosen't area defense guards ports and what not, not reduce reistance
does it at least help with resistance attacking buildings and railways?
My fault I had my notifications on mentions only
grab a single horse template set it as your garrison division and set to like martial law
no reistance is only affected by complaince, garison law what the garison template is
Nah it’s just fighting in Tripolitania you got a real short border and the British have tanks on both of the two tiles you can push on and because they are right next to the Suez Canal they got perfect supply
do you understand how to set a garison template?
no
yes I created an MP devision template and set one up already, I just wondered if putting extra MP devisions there helped or not
oh and make sure you set your equipment priority to garrisons is high
uh mp as a suport company is not nesscary but its good to have
what is it consisted of tho? it should be calvary
generally just a single calvary divsion on martial law will handle all of your garisons needs
based on the video I watched (5 years old) the template that does the job well while being resistance to damage from resistance fighting is this:
what is this
horrors
yeah uh
you know you can speed up the game btw right
just one cav divsion is fine
yes I am aware, I put it on one because im typing with yall
dont infinitely train troops because youll be in deficits
spacebar to pause
i didn't think he was using the actual historical colonial division term lol
yes I know....
like the divisions france starts with
but in witch case tho that garison template is fine
click flag, occupied territories to set garrison law+template
its good for late game since you get more mp back
lights are just bad for garrisons but its ok
I did already, I just wanted to know if the effect stacks by having the same division in guard mode in the area, I see that it doesn't now.
mediums end up being cheaper and harder
oh wait i didn't even see the tanks
its just offmap
well im happy you research and use your political power and stuff like that
thats good
the information I'm going off of is baed on this video: https://youtu.be/lnEY4xEKoqE?si=DSOSX9HGw4OwNGL-
In this video I discuss HoI4's resistance and compliance system, including the best garrison templates, how garrison combat works, the best occupation laws, and collaboration.
Intro - 0:00
General overview - 1:06
Resistance overview - 1:53
Garrison mechanics - 3:07
The best garrison templates - 7:36
Compliance overview - 10:47
Bad occupation la...
As I understand it, there is fighting that your garissons are doing basically, and having tanks helps them out a lot even if it isn't super "needed" I am the USA so, lots of factories haha
yah its dependent on the resistance they face but yep usa industry go brrrrr
but just keep in mind in the early game generally just 1 cav div is good since its inexpensive to dsign and put into service plus do low priority guns
and then as the game goes on add extra cav if needed/want and same with adding mp support company
If I set the division in the training screen to low priority, I assume that effects the priority of the garrisons themselves getting equipment?
oh thats not what i meant sorry should have been more clear
yes set garisons to high priority but within the template set their gear to reserve
like what ya did in this img
no its fine I thought so, but you never know with these games if theres another hidden screen somewhere haha
fair lol
Did I do this already or did I miss something
ohhhh I see
I see what you meant haha
i meant to circle garrison priory 😭
anyways u get garisons now so
have fun good luck with your game altho by the looks of it its pretty much over
yeah it's basically over soon, but I ran out of manpower doing double the garrisons basically without realizing it haha
US industry in this game is like
really weak actually
use tank only garrisons
and go on like local police
building up compliance gives manpower
you also just shouldnt infinitely queue up units ever as anyone
if there's anything
make collaboration governments
that's how you actually get something out of occupation
occupation shouldn't be a burden because why would you go to war otherwise
puppeting stuff
to get their resocurces
like the dutch east indies
yes but sometimes you gotta BELIEVE in the arsonal of Democracy vro
i mean yh for like big nations sure
but i aint gonna set up a 100% colab gov on like the uk or italy
btw, how do I use a nuke?
bottom right raid option
make sure you have bombers and air dominance over where ya trying to nuke
and yeah 100% compliance is cool but that cost 300 pp and i still don't get full access to to mp and rescources altho i will give you that you would get more factories that way i think
also keep in mind of what the nuke will do the territory after the war
I assume make it unusable, but it's just for fun at this point.
not unusable but it gives that area a debuf it slows repairs, construction, troop movement and weakens the defense and also fair
I never found a use for this, high capacity electrical grid thing, whenever I click it, the whole USA is blue already so I guess I have it maxed out just by being me xD
this is exactly what you need to do
especially if you are not a big nation
like, if you play finland
annex soviet with full collab
infinite manpower glitch
how so?
wait are u saying like
train up a bunch of divs using their man power
anex then dismantle?
sir?
right cz of the 100% compliance right?
yeah iirc usa's in game capacity is like a quarter of its irl ic
but my concern is that garrisons are still needed, well hang on ig i need to do some in game test but thanks for opening my eyes to this new possibility
occupation should also be a good thing
because otherwise why would you go to war
i need help fightin a war rn
resources but genneraly in my nations they already have plenty of space
so i don't need to build in conqued lands
wsp bro
Are you guys talking about creating a collab government (puppet) or creating a collab government (spies) and keeping the land
right well for one your over stacking your units and some of them are out of supply
how is the air force?
is it doing CAS missions?
Why is the reliability on this tank have a red down arrow? I thought having more of it was a good thing?
Make it so your general/field marshal executes plans carefully (one arrow)
wdym 1
So they dont all stack on each other and will only go if theres supply
A component you added is reducing its reliability
okay well if possible build an aiport closer, your lacking fighers so your just sending in your planes to die essentialy even if their air forceis is small
ok
The up and down arrows indicate the change int he design compared to what it was before
ok, so if the percentage is above 100 percent is that okay too?
Idk if being above 100 has an additional benefit, but its a waste of stats, you can put more aggressive components on or up the engine
I usually build to be >80ish
this button
I figured but I am asking because it says, "reliability has no effect above 100% so I assume that's saying it doesn't get better than 100
Thats what i assume yeah
ok
I play SP though not comp MP, meta might be different over in tryhard land
just move troops out of the area you probably only need like 4 or 5 per tile
you dont have enough supply
i lost the war the country basically got itself back
you playing ironman?
ye
ill just restart
likea different country
i only have 20 hrs btw im tryna learn everything
yeah just dont put that many troops on a few tiles, they were all out of supply and taking attrition
and you can build a supply hub and take the decision to make it construct faster as well
yeah thats totally fine
is spain good to learn war
it's one of the more difficult nations cause all the debuffs but you get into a civil war early. depends what you want
YO
I let them push back got more supplies then split my troops and started like encircling
yea, makes sense
i thought i was doomed
but then
we PREVALED
yeah u right about the tile thing
you gotta split
second one
don't do the first thing
it's worse than occupying
I own most of the planet but china's score is higher than mine wtf???
tbf on the chinese they have like an inf amount of man power so prob beat u there cz they just had divisons
So I should kill China before Russia next game, noted
i mean if you wanna? but fighting in china sucks
Shouldn't be any more or less difficult than any other country, I usually control Japan entirely by that point for a place to attack from anyways. Train marines with jungle training and I'd be good I assume
yeah its just they have no supplies and most places you will be fighting in moutians
eh, as the US I can build the supply points if needed. It would only be a matter of when not if
fair it just takes ages
if i declare war on yugoslavia which is guaranteed by romania which is guaranteed by france will i end up in war with france
no
Bro i was doing that thing where you use Brazil and conquer like all of south America, but then as i started winning i look behind and france and UK both invaded me, how do i stop from randomly being invaded
port guards
Anyone have advice on how to play British Raj? I played it tonight but got beaten by the brits
I struggle to cover big areas both in Middle east and Egypt and Africa as Iran with the naval invasions should I concede some ground ? I need more man power as Iran
Its 1942 atm so still building up my airforce form ground up
And what template should I use for port guards and troops that can push back naval invasions
what are the requirements for ai nations to flip ideology without player intervention
they need the political advisor correct?
what makes the ai randomly select it
because sometimes a nation would flip an ideology i dont want
and sometimes a nation can have 90% support and not do shit
somebady ?
hiii
just woke up
there should be a site to simulate hoi saves so i dont have to load the game
full mech divisions are generally not needed in singleplayer, but should you want a defensive mech template you can have like 19 mech in a division + radio + logi + engineers
How good is truck division for defense if you lack man power ?
what does that mean ?
does not add stats like mech does
the reason why mech is used is due to their high defense stat (plus they have commensurate hardness to boot)
Ah ok how should I make my template for defending the coast lands In Egypt and and Africa British naval invade me everywhere and I have low man power as Iran because I’m still using my political power to core lands slowly to get man power and they have awsome focus for more man power 5% more but it’s gonna take a year I’m in 1942
I’m at the edge of Lagos in Africa it has 25 mio people and it says 100% compliance on the stat Iran focus that I have lets me get 2,5% more non core man power
So if I take Lagos do I get that 100% compliance or do I have to start from scratch?
A little long text sorry if it’s confusing
Motorized are bad overall
Their only positive is their speed
so only use them to quickly fill frontline gaps or to do overruns and encirclements
So just for taking tiles ?
?
<@&846894118219022336>
i dont wanna start up hoi :(
you're not the only mod/helper in this discord anyway 🤷♂️
I'm just waiting for someone
false....
theres no one else...
(and the helpers aren't online)
I see you like 95% of the time
what are they doing ?
Stuff
it's not an insult, I just see casey way more than the others
Well
I am more in off topic
having lives XD
besides flowi
also im a helper
so it's like 1 mod/channel(s)

nah people just are online at different times/focus on different stuff
I have a life
Hi casey
Imma ask this straight after 1k hours my ass still dosent know how much consumer goods I have so where do I see an exact number
construction tab, on the top, you'll have something that says factories to consumer goods: (x amount) if you hover on top of that, you should see the percentages and where they come from
helloo how are you
Yes~ Czechoslovak
Double no life
well yeah its public knowledge
Is this still up-to-date?
yup
although penalities were reduced when over combat width
If you don't want to bother with combat width just do 32w for everything
it only changes the fact that for attack divisions, 38 and 39 width are now viable, with 38w being better overhaul than 36w
in sp 32-33w is good enough as a "battleplan everywhere" combat width
Busy doing irl stuff
Casey is more free ig
too much free time 💔
ty :3
how to fix my dlcs not being verified
wait/contact steam
alr
which is easier for forming roman empire fascist or monarchia d'italia

dont you have pin perms?
You should pin some ships builds. That would be helpful. Anyways I might make a battleship build based off that SH build from RB later tonight.
how often do ai flip ideologies naturally
or undergo civil war
without player intervention
Not very often in historical
As most of the time focuses do the heavy lifting
Ahistorical idk but I assume the focuses do the heavy lifting there.
which is easier for forming roman empire fascist or monarchia d'italia
its usually focus locked now :(((
Yeah, I think I’ve only flipped using an advisor as Romania
doesn't really matter but democratic king and the pope are the best paths
democratic king gets to also form the EU and the pope gets insane compliance bonuses
Hi, i watched a lot of tutorials how to play poland and have someone some tricks after latest updates because i cant broke germany until russia join the war
Where can I get the game's sound effects?
Gun2, Support AA and Arty should do the trick
SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron IV\sound
just play bermontian poland
do i have to make the pope the leader
wtf am i supposed to do
its one of the strongest paths
it unlocks a secret tree
polish-lit commonwealth, I managed to get 1 and half army to 36w inf, then I had 3rd army on Slovakian line only 8 divs. They will push your south so your goal is to wipe out konigsberg asap so your 2nd army can join the main frontline
(you should be able to make another 36w full army with inf)
not even my allies
bottom right you likely have a button pushed
oh thank you
its working again
does a fighter bomber like this work ?
yea its better to just use two seperated designs tho usually
is there a reason to do a mix ? I am a bit resource limited and am wondering if it would be a good idead to do an hybrid until I have more resources to upgrade
not really
nah its better to focus
Use the module that reduces the resources you need to build the model
I forgot what it’s called
i mean there are a few, at least that i do
for naval bombers u can usually do guns+torpedo
and for fighters, if u use cannons, cannons give pretty good ground attack that never gets used usually because fighters cant be on cas
adding bomb locks allow the cannon cas to actually be used
outside of that theres no real benefit except maybe adding recon camera if u have a free slot
how do i make the pope the leader
oh btw phoenix look at this hack if you ever need help
<@&916727971820240976> show up to help this guy
you have a focus to strengthen the papacy on the monarchist path
you do that, and then have the balance of power more than 60% in favor of the pope
it's worse than a specialized plane
for CAS it's especially bad
for fighters, in singleplayer it can work or it can be used to exploit the CASfighter strat where you use logistrike mission to get stupid stat buffs from air support mission efficiency
how do i do that
i made all the decisions that increase papal power and its at 60% nothing happened
maybe it needs more idr the exact number
i cant bring it up anymore tho
do the decisions refresh after awhile
i have no more papal strengthening decisions
yea
okay this what my thing looks like rn
i keep seeing these youtubers put these sword icons tf is this
YOU CAN CHANGE THE ALANCE OF POWER??!
HOW
how do you do this
WILL THE UK ATTACK YOU IF YOU CHANGE THE BALANCE OF POWER??!!!!?!!
its used in multyplayer to signal other players but i think is only visual for explaining better
thank youu
❤️
What
Yes
is it a dlc?
It’s on the government tab with your leader’s portrait
You just click on the balance of power thing
Do I need a dlc?
Did you see it
Idk
I have them all
But I don’t see why bop would exist if you couldn’t change it
the British must maintain the balance of power by turning Africa into a international zone
its a ping
Any tips on how to play communist India?
turn on hoi4
Im boosting fascism in the US. Will the allies kick them/leave them if they elect fascist in the upcomming election?
Do you think a war against the US is militarily possible or did i miss my timing? They are also allied with pretty much every superpower except for russia
Cause i dont think i can beat them with military
LOL
lol lol
Is there something i can do to make them more positive to join my faction?
Does anybody know how to fix when u alt tab in full screen it goes black for a few seconds
The Free AE is fascist. The civil war started because i made america fascist. So in theory they should be happy with me
i dont know what to do. I feel like thats my only chance to enter the US, but at the same time if im siding with the loser (which atm looks like the fascist rebells) i feel like the US+allies will just overrun me
No it won’t the us will stay in the allies till the end of the war but you could try to start a coup it may distract them for a minute
Yeah uh try this start another coup then attack as the civil war starts
How is the entente projecting naval dominance
they can have docking rights too btw
also you have 0 fuel so you should fix that
Prolly from Germany
i just checked its the netherlands
Or any other reichspakt country
don't use fullscreen resolution
yeah
not even in a faction theyre doing it for the love of the game
ive been constructing refineries but its not making much of a difference and i obviously cant import because of the entente
civil war is already going on
day fly planes
dont use navy unless you need to naval invade
use navs against subs + fighters to detect
alr thanks
finally have fuel
if im at war and someone is fighting along side me in a faction do i automatically get docking rights from them
well theres nothing u can probably do. Declare on the other civil war faction to get mutual war, improve relations, and use diplomatic pressure and see
-123 is a lot tho
Yes
If ur in a faction you get all access
why are these not building
okay its a weird thing with my puppets not existing anymore
If you annex a puppet you have to cancel the building iirc
I was building nothing in the East Indies for like 3 months once
yeah it glitches and freezes
it takes up your civs indefinitely
yeah lol i fixed it
Try deploying from a airport in japan
are they your ally or do you just have mil access
otherwise just try from another airport
one in japan does the trick
can i trigger resistance revolts in faction members, hog war score, and then annex the revolt myself to steal land
Oh wait no
i can do it with nations i dont wanna all out war with tho
I have a stupid question but ill ask it anyway. When I equip a land unit with AAA and/or AA, does it target enemy planes that are in the same region automatically? Or just when enemy air engages the unit directly?
engaged
thank you!
Guys, how to balance between reliability and breakthrough?
I tried once already.
Like if I make tank divisions to attack how much reliability should I have in my tank design?
How the hell you guys keep an overview on situations like this?
people clown on reliability
reliability just means how much attrition guts you
No I’m saying try and start another one
if u dont fight in shitty areas then reliability doesnt matter
a game that costs 50 usd bs
That way the Americans will have to fight you and them selves witch may help you if your gonna keep trying to go for u
but like a bunch of areas matter that are shitty
like half the ussr
so depends where u intend to fight
Hmm, I saw people lose so many tanks not by combat but attrition. And at this point I decided to focus on soft attack and reliability and less breakthrough but I don't know what stats are good for reliability?
My average is 65-55 for the tank design
Is it fine to do less?
its looking pretty good so far
if u plan to fight in the middle of fucberia then aim for 80+ avg in division template
Reliability is dependent on avg of all battalions in a div
If u have low reliability try getting torsion bar i think easy maintenance and wet ammo storage
U can also just have less tanks and more mech in ur div
0% if you're fighting only in plains and forests
consider having more only if you're fighting in deserts, low supply zones, marshes, mountains, etc
those terrains are usually avoidable tho
reliability only affects attrition so if you're on a high supply zone with plains or forests you're good
Barb
you can avoid marshes on sovs p easily
go around them and pocket them
Even i don’t memorize where marshes are
and if u dont have collab u still need to push to urals
tanks will do nothing in urals regardless, don't go in sovs without collabs
just rush supply hubs to not run out of supply
after you literally can't not have bad supply push with inf and cas since you're supposed to have shredded the soviet army to a thin line by then
As germany yeah, but sometimes ur playing a minor
then you probably shouldnt be doing tanks
Ive had hungarian afrika and barb corps before
if playing as a minor, air + special forces
even as a major air + special forces is technically better because of ic efficiency
meh, panzer cool
cool but only optimal as germany with the right collabs and giga eco
This is my 3rd run trying to hold against sheep ai as ussr but I just cant seem to get close.. I got war economy by spanish civil war, rushed political paranoia, five year plan down to industrial modernisation, civs till late 1937, collabs on baltics for factories
why 17K artillery
you are throwing your IC into the trashbin
normal tanks instead of spgs/tds is also really bad
honestly your production just seems really weird
factory count still seems kind of low? but mostly ok ig
you should trade less
go down trade law
so you like build more
youve been trading tons of civs away i think
I guess I just did it based on deficit during the time, I dont really know how its going to scale
bro
look at your units
you have a certain ratio of equipment in them
thats what you want to produce
if you want to fix a deficit you produce like a few factories over the ratio
but not like many
also you are in a deficit of steel somehow as the ussr
theres also no point changing tank chassis outside HHC
if im japan and im gonna fight china soon are these base divisions any good? im new to hoi4
is it worth it to skip army focuses for more industry buffs
depends on when
you want army by war
you dont need it like before war
doesnt help you scale
Ah fair enough I thought they were gonna be stronger
Whats the plan to reach Europe tho?
btw before german occupation I had 196 mils and 145 civs
but besides skipping army focuses I dont see a way to get more industry by war
@glacial steeple Rate my 1940 battleship design I made. It's not meta but I based off the RB Super heavy Battleship.
well they kinda reached me and the american rebells capitulated so im completely done
you can always copy ai if youre below ai skill level /nm
hi
its gg
I also made a 1936 battleship design.
Dam
it was super lategame anyways and i completed all researches and everything. Only hope for the game to stay interesting was beating the US
the civil war was my opener, but pretty much the whole world fought on their side
on your bbs
40mil manpower
exactly what stats do you want
who?
oh I just wanted to show casey a fun design I made based off the SHBB from Red Baron. Nah these designs aren't meta at all, but as something I could use if I wanted to build one
ah
I have some actual designs if you want
why ask me to rate it i havent played hoi in like ages
(maybe a week)
lmao
yes plz
like i actually wanna beat the uk navy as italy
in rb they use it for shore attack on d day mostly
which you dont need in sp
but its a ship
it will hit things
Maybe I'll share it with Red Baron or one of the helpers and see how they would react lol
helpers are no smarter than you or me
mostly you use planes but I can send you some actual ship designs
/lh
What are the actual qualifications to be a helper lol
ngl i find it boring
like i like the stuff they are doing with those marine commando raids for taog
apply, be helpful, dont be mean
and chak has to think youre a good fit
how can I level up doctrine to get -0.3 combat width before the war?
here you go optionally you may want to add aa, fire control system and use dual purpose batteries for some of the builds
okay another question
which mio is it for the usa that does the heavy fighters
lockheed or North American Aviation according to the wiki
I think North American Aviation is prefered
Ok so after i played my first really big war i have some questions:
- How do you prevent naval invasions if you dont have naval supperiority when you have a very large territory with a major coastline? Is it enough to have a small unit on defending harbors, or do you need to defend all coastlines?
- How do you move your units during war when the frontline is very dynamic? Do you just draw a very deep attack line and let them auto it? Cause that rarely encircles the enemys.
Or do you move them all manually?
Or do you assign them with a deep frontattack and than manually take some units for encirclement? If yes do you unasign them or do you just use them manually and after they fullfilled their manual task they go back to their previous task (the deep frontattack) - Kinda unrelated: Can you pressure or manipulate an alliance to kick a certain country?
- AI tend to literally invade anything they can land on, though they normally focus on/around ports, having meh units defending the coastline is the best route though if thats too much, drawing a fallback line covering the port and next to it should be ok
- The typical strategy is to have your main frontline infantry (Fillers) on 1 frontline, then have your main attacking force on another where you micro and cause breakthroughs and encirclements, or moving to defend weaker areas or areas under assault. These better units are typically manually micro'd
- I'm not 100% certain on this answer but I'm pretty sure no
@gleaming grove pinging for visibility
that'd be right
north american aviation is preferred
hi liv
Thanks

It took alone like 10 units to defend cuba and Haiti/DomRep. I couldve never have enough smaller units to also do Ecuador, Peru, Chille, Argentina and MiddleAmerica+Mexico. That wouldve been like what 60-80 divisions for coast alone.
About the fallback line: Do you just draw fallback lines around every port with 1 army of 24 divisions? And they automatically go there if needed, or do you actually assign like 2-3 divs to each fallback line around a harbor? -
Doesnt have to be now since im going to bed anyways, but could you post a picture on how that looks ingame? Just tag me ill check it out when i wake up.
-
Kk, i thought so, unfortunate so lategame you always fight the whole world basically when everyone is at peace after WW2 and either all allied or all axis survived
If you want towards the weekend I should have some time if you want us to go through this
might be easier
when are you usually one, cause im CET
alright, if i got time and i remember ill tag you or dm you
how many marine commandos do you need for the unit to be able to get out of any tile?
how can I level up doctrine before the war?
How does the AI determine where to put specific units in a frontline? I have, say, a dedicated anti tank unit set to a front line. Is there any way to get that anti tank unit to consistently move to face off to armour (or even to stay where I put it)?
Exercise a fully trained division that has appropriate battalions attached
You can see the batallion requirements by hovering over the mastery in the doctrine tree
turn off ironman
For some reason I still can't claim the mandate of heaven, what am I missing?
anyone wanna play?
anyone wanna ?
anyone ?
anyone know whats the best way to invade romania without a naval invasion (turkey shut the straight and france is guaranteeing them, not sure i wanna fight that yet). i'm playing italy and have both yugoslavia and bulgaria on my side, but i just cannot breach their defences
too few divisions
tank divs have no equipment
attacking the whole line with inf across a major river
what did you expect
too few divisions - fair enough
tanks have no equipment - they're should only be missing the logistics support i just added to them
attacking with whole line - yea i know you shouldn't do this, and i'm not, i just didn't really know how else to show the struggling to push, so i just hit the arrow and took the screenshot
how many divisions should i have on?
more than the romanians have in total, which is usually somewhere around 40
Concentrate your best pushing units on the coast and push there first to extend their lines and create weak points on the river
forget pushing transylvania until you have bucharest
use your air force
already CASing boss
consider upgrading the railways in your puppets for the logistics
ok, thanks
I probably shouldn't ask what those tank divs are made of
35 width, mix of motorized and light tanks ( i haven't got to mediums yet for reasons i don't even know). organisation of about 40, logistics company and support AA
tanks are built for as much soft attack as i could get on at the time
though i only recently grabbed the DLCs so i'm not great at designing
drop it to 32-36 width, depending on what you can afford try to get motor or LT recon in there too, hospitals are good for retaining veterancy
oh nvm
thought you put 40w
retaining veterancy doesn't matter on the first day of war
i did, i thought it was 40 but apparently its 35
you might want to put in flame tanks, they're much more important than logistics
matters for later if they're committing to using tanks as Italy
yea i'm going straight for them as soon as the project is done
since italian tanks suck bawls
flame tanks and light tank recon give your armor divisions much more stats esp with self propelled support and streamline deployment
he's having trouble breaking through romania's river
I'm trying not to be quite that cynical
i'm having trouble breaking through romania in general 😭
also are you having green air?
but just in general, 24 inf divisions ain't enough for romania's borders. You need 48 of them at least.
yea i've dragged in an extra army already
yep
also what I don't get is that you can't see romanian units, is that a bug?
i'm not sure, i assumed it was an intel thing but i have 60% army intel, and i could see greece's units fine even though i forgot to stick down an operative
dont push with your line infantry
they suck at attacking
If you don't have enough Intel you just see a question mark
i've noticed it a few times, i couldn't see china's units when i was storming through as japan yesterday
oh and get rid of line artillery
theres an option that lets you toggle divisions
check in the bottom right corner
I mean you can easily take out Romania as ussr with 72 base info units as long as you have green air in 1937
its currently 1939, i'm kind of slow
yea i've breached their line now, thanks for all help involved
plenty
make 32 width mountaineer + marine
8 mountaineer 8 marine battalions
and the correct support companies
(check pinned)
go down mountaineer and marine doctrines
pick holding the line for mountaineer cw reduction
ez
i should play another italy game
of course, just because you play sp doesnt mean you have to restrict yourself
"you dont have to do mech in sp" is horrible advice
if anything you have a lot more leeway in what you design
You'll need to figure out rubber, oil and whether you want to spend 100 XP to give +5 production costs. If you can answer these questions then you can pick the 1940 mech technology
shouldi annex or puppet? since if i annex them then uk will capture africa anyway
naval bombers and building a navy
So, Is there any way to get some questions answered from PDX?
I have tried in multiple places and have a post that has been up and unanswered for several weeks in the official forums.
I am having great issues with producing support equipment as a minor, and I started to wonder
Do I really need engineers?
Or shall I make better strategies to have enough factories dedicated to it?
No not really
they are nice if you can afford them but I rate them lower than support arty
They are what always consume my factories that I could be giving to weapons and I then end up having scarsity on everything since the sup equ is so expensive
What does engineers really do apart from the movement bonus?
I know they help with enthrenchment but I'd like to know exactly all of their upsides
I actually end up having not enough arty cause of the support equipment IC
Lol
I am aware that's what gets me
let me guess ur also using line arty?
bc that is a way bigger ic waste compared to engi
if u do
I only focus on producing arty after the support equipment has at least 5 factories to it
Which then I only give 2 or 3 factories to arty
support eq is always important bc support companies are just op if u use the right ones
I only play single player by the way
yes for sp
I always thought that engies were the meta for any division lol
for attacking divs assault engi are better
I focused too many on doing navy strategies and templates I forgot about the actual armies
why?
If my template is just inf with 1 support arty 1 engi, I keep roughly 4/1/1 - 5/1/1 ratio in factories and adjust as needed.
I like to make a stock before starting to train more divisions
But you know what
I should first have at least 1 factory on everything before focusing on anything else because of the adjustment time
What else are they good for?
anything
they give insane terrain bonuses
esp urban
They increase entrenchment but, what does it do
buffs attack and defense of entrenched units (when defending)
normal engi also gives terrain bonuses but way less
Is it worth sacrifing gun production for the defense bonus?
assault engi gives u same things just more terrain bonuses and some other stats
never, guns are what gives most of the defence to infantry (as well as most other stats)
How does strength and specific equipment work? If i add engi but have 0 support equipment, that will tank my divisions strength by x% but will my soft attack from my inf equipment still give 100% stats?
Basically these stats are determined by the sum (or average for amor piercing and reliability) of the stats of all the equipment used by the unit, then modified by some % modifiers
So things giving you % modifiers (like engineers with entrenchment and terrain bonuses) are good, but only if your base stats are decent
just don’t produce support equipment but still put support companies that need support eq in the division and disable support equipment in your division tab
ur still gonna get most of the bonuses btw
Interesting, good to know!
and all doctrine bonuses on support eq
I hate how minors have basically 0 manpower at the start
Should I use my pp to increase it as soon as possible?
@inner sparrow hi!
I usually pick the construction bonuses council guy first
No that’s not really a good pp pick, more important first things to spend it on
like advisors and economy law and army xp guy
depends how soon you plan to go to war. Havign units 3 years before a war is not that useful.
Oh yeah I dont really pick that
I wanna do historical finland
Finnish him achievment
I did No one gets to the Finnish Line and mastered defense as Finland
My priority if war is not anytime soon is generally:
- Advisors that buff PP
- Chief of Army
- Worker conditions
- 2x Advisors that buff economy and industrial concern
- Chief of Air
- Chief of Navy if doing navy
- Theorist
where economy law
Navy rocks! But- Finland can't really afford one
Depends on the nation, Top priority after PP boosting guy in general but I hate wasting PP on intermediate steps, so if playing a nation that can go to war economy before WW2 I wait until I can do that, otherwise I skip early mob and go directly for partial when I can (until war starts).
Also somwhere in there ther's PP for attache
Wait until you hear about naval bombers
Ehehehe
hey
What is your thoughts on the dlc No compromise No surrender? I dont know If i should by it
3.6/5 not great, not terrible
Japan focus tree is a significant improvement on what was there before
Is it worth using cheap mediums on garrison?
its pinned
Oh alr thx
TBH not really unless you plan to garrison a MASSIVE amount of land
the initiqal investment is massive
its not
its literally less than it would be with guns

in terms of factories used on it
What a reference
you do need mp support tho
no?? Can't check right now cause I'm in a modded game, but I believe you get much better MP/suppression but significantly worse IC/suppression, the advantage is the hardness saving you a lot of MP/IC losses in the long run
its both afaik
the tanks are really cheap
its not with lights
not with heavies
but mediums are better
Did a quick test, and it's almost triple IC/suppression (IW medium, light 1M turret with machinegun, cheaper armor type)
Stats might be slightly different because of mods but I doubt it's by a factor of 3x
is your div like max sized
if its 1 tank then yeah its gonna cost a lot
it uses less equipment when its larger
for both
yes. The cheap-ass medium is 4.80 IC, a full div is 1250 tanks = 6K IC (plus cost for MP)
thats just div design
it uses less of the units when garrisoning
like its a bit weird to explain
higher suppression + less average supports means you use less divs per state
Yes, with lategame MP I get 100 suppression, to that is ~60 IC/suppression
Meanwhile my infantry are at ~24 IC / suppression (I assume cav would be lower but cannot test that)
I am fully aware
Still about 3x IC/suppression initial investment, which can be huge
And that's without considering you probably have max efficiency on guns but need to build it up on cheapo suppression mediums
so It's a good template only if
A) manpower is your primary concern and not IC
or B) you are willing to sacrifice a very large IC hit for potential IC+MP savings thanks to hardness that will take many years to come to fruition (plus the immediate MP saving from above)
it will save a lottt
you take literally like what is it 80% hardness?
80% would be 80% less losses
since resistance only deals soft attack FYI
I know
Which means you lose 20% as much of that template which cost 3x as much, so your actual IC losses are 60% of the non-armored one
and 30% for manpower since it uses half
tho i dont remember if resistance uses linear calculations for garrisons needed
so overall you achieve IC savings AFTER you lost your entire garrison contingent 5 times over
ill ask the person who did testing on this later
As I said, it has its uses (it's actually quite good at saving MP), but it's not a blanket thing to recomend
have you seen the people here
ive seen people lose 3-4 million men a year
to garrisons and resistance
If someone is losing 3-4M a year and you suggest that tempalte they will end up losing more, because there is no way the have the IC to fill up all that garrisons unless they are playing USA
Germany is one of the nation where the armored garrison makes sense, but again you need to know what you are doing otherwise you will end up with underequipped garrisons, which leads to resistance spinking, which death spirals into requiring more garrisons you cannot equip
IDK i think tank garrisons are universally the best now with the crazy resistance everywhere
So suggesting it to ppl losing 4-5M MP because they can't handle garrison ins counterproductive imho
theyll lose less and spiral less
gun garrisons are very prone to spiralling and leaving ground divs unequipped
IMO anyway
It is true when you have the full amount of tanks needed for armoed garrison to begin with, but if you start with very unequipped garrisons things will go out of control fast
it gets out of control less fast/gets into control easier compared to gun garrisons
because you just lose less
thats how i see it
With guns at least you can delete units to stop a death spiral and get resistance back in check, with tanks you need careful planning since you cannot just magic them out
that wont happen
maybe a decent player might but it wont happen with new players
IDK its the mindset of i have deficit so i need to put 100 factories on artillery
and then not have any IC left
and then like
they get into gun deficit because they only make inf and battleplan small inf divs no air old guns
and resistance further drains the guns
its honestly imo probably easier to have a seperate production resource for garrisons because like they wont both spiral at the same time at least
Hi I am looking for someone to talk to about playing UK , someone who is pro at the game I would appriciate it a lot. I am in Helping Lounge 1
I would say I’m quite sufficient
No preferably
Yh these tanks r NOT good for garrison
Might be cause I have no compliance but still
ohh okay I understand no worries then
you just need to make enough sob
its 80% less losses
Tried garrisoning poland in a test run
Needed 10k tanks
theyre not that expensive lol compared to guns
it seems high but theyre cheap
and you can like
use mils
get efficiency on them
also get uhhh
cutting corners on design MIO
and produce with daimler ofc
do like 10?
its not that insane for ger
also start in like 37 probably
early mils are for stuff like anschluss
i just use cav with mp
Hes playing poland
trying to form commonwealth
Yeah he needs an immediate fix which isnt easy
Ig
All you need is like 22 on guns iirc
For 2 months
So, did some math:
Assuming average resistance of 10% and no garrison damage reduction. With high garrison damage reduction (i.e. local police force) armored garrison hardness is mostly wasted due to reduction being capped at 90%.
TLDR: armored garrisons never save IC in a realistic timeframe (first break even point is after 20 years), so the evaluation is entirely on the MP vs IC front.
Armored cars confirmed terribad, light tanks preferable to medium but the difference is minimal so other considerations likely take precedence (MIO bonuses and exp buildup), if you have 10%+ garrison damage reduction, light tanks are pretty much always better.
how is the cav cost the same between years
you're not gonna be producing gun 0 specifically for garrison
If you are willing to produce cheap-ass tanks specifically for garrisons, why would you not produce gun 0 for them?
1 man light turret, machine gun, -20% IC armour, easy mainteniance in the '42 ones
MP in all units, with bonus scaled to current year
isn't fixed superstructure cheaper
IC/MP cost of MP included ofc
assuming all unlocked, I could recauculate for having it only in '42
and what mio for tanks and guns
no MIO for either since that changes by country and individual choices
mios would be more effective for tanks, no?
since you can use one for design, which make production cost cheaper, and one for production
yes, but would not change things by crazy amounts. At the same time, you are far more likely to capture outdated guns from the enemy than tanks, so you have always an influx of free guns while at war
With 20 battalions in 36-39
is amtracs special units
yes
ok
i just got the achievement for staging the warsaw uprising as communist china how
What 😭
You gotta explain this
hello people
I can’t play my save as it’s from another version of the game
Check the latest pinned message
you don't have to garrison anything and they give you a fraction of their industry depending on autonomy
it probably doesnt check who actually did it, just that it happened
no garrison
oh nvm he already answered
- you can use your puppet as natural border btw your enemy
and you
Does anyone know how the system works when you beat a country how many planes do you get ?
Also if I puppet a country and later annex do I get more ?
50% of their stockpile equipment
if it didnt change
why would you want AI planes anyway?
to sell on the market 😛
And if I annex a puppet Do I get 100% ?
Not sure about that
Which states should I establish Carlist cells in for the Spanish Civil War? I've got the generic north Spain locked down as per the focus, plus Eastern Aragon and Catalan (such a pain to snag those two, but worth it). I know I should be pushing into Madrid, but I also kind of want to go Carlist Spain - any advice on where I should focus my efforts?
Also, should I accept the fascist volunteer brigades? Germany's offering me panzer divisions, but I'm worried they'll turn on the Carlists when the schism comes.
I think the most important thing is killing the republicans early
you can kill them or basically kill them before the second civil war
i would push where the military factories are
How do you go about doing that? I've got a save immediately after the civil war starts, and as I mentioned, I have the north garrisons plus Eastern Aragon and Catalan.
I'm sorry to bother you, I'm just trying to figure this out. It's a rather complex war, but I'm pretty good with ground assault and micromanagement, so I thought I'd give it a try.
Do I puppet things then annex them?
You can, but it takes a while and a lot of resource investment. If you want to annex something, best to annex it right off the bat.
So puppets are better than annexing
Not generally, from what I've found. If you have the troops it's best to just garrison.
Okay
Because puppeting only gives you a fraction of the resources, plus the AI is pretty stupid.
Why is ussr so hard to play 😭 im attacking Iran and Japan and Germany just jump me
I suppose if there's certain industrial focuses you want your puppet to complete you can wait on those, but all in all it's better to annex.
Okay!
sometimes i puppet majors with navies so i dont have to spend the points to take it
and i can do the manpower exploit
like ill puppet the dutch east indies
most likely supply
all my previous games apparently cant be loaded because of the different versions, is there any way to fix this?
how do i request expeditionaries? and do i need to be in all the same wars or just 1?
yooo lol do you know whether my tick speed broke or what? I am going on 5th highest speed level and the game ticks like 1 day on a second and the whole game is kind of laggy when the time is on "go"
thats just your pc
5 speed is however much your pc can handle
4 is actually capped and consistent
Roll Back Game version. There is a pin explaining how to
its the only thing causing it so
Can be due to mods
or that, something laggy
If you have a memory leak a game restart might fix the issue
Diplo menu. Click on the nation
no mods
What date are you at in game?
1949
WHY CANT I CHANGE MY UNIT MODELS ANYMORE?
thats why then
?
13 years of simulation
Unless you have a monster PC that can happen. All AIs are infinity storing equipment and spamming Divs. You can tag over to some irrelevant nations and delete their troops and stockpiles and it can help
but the game goes to 55 I think?
hmm alr
thanks
Click on the picture in the designer iirc
I cant nothing happens it dosent give me the unit texture menu like before
You can play to 2000, but it's only really made for 1936 to 1946 max
sad so no world conquest loll
Do it quicker next time 😜
I don't use it often I can try it out when I'm home
ok ty
what is the best medium tank template for singleplayer and if you dont have the last battalion slot unlocked
Hey guys I can’t play my old save today I guess is the new ekspansion ? Any idea how I can load my saves ? I tried turning of the new ekspansion but it still says red and different version
you have to switch version basically just play hoi4 then select open launcher and there you can find the version
youre not limited to 2000 either
I think someone went to 2030 on reddit once. To build a supply hub and port on every tile
8 Tank / 8 Mech if you have NSB do SPGs with Howie 2 else just current tech mediums is fine
my longest was 2058
It's in pins, you can replace Amtraks with regular mechs
