If you want to try the dlcs and see Which one you will like , buy the subscription for like 1/3 month ( you can cancel it after you buy it and still have the have access to all of the dlc until the end of the duration)
And then you can buy the dlc you like individually later on when there own sale
The second option is you dont want to buy dlc is modding

Although the community generally think that gotterdemang ( German dlc )and no step back (ussr )are the best 2 dlc followed by arms against tyranny although not as high as the first 2

The first add Germany alt history focus tree and unlock all the unique special projects
And no step back do the same but it gives you the tank designer and the chief of staff stuff ( not sure about the chiefs of staff stuff tho)

this is quite old but many of the points are still true, point is at the end, if you do the math, line arty is not worth the cost when you can make spgs, or better yet, make air force

So, I've got some powerful 30W armored divisions, roughly half armor/armor variants, half motor/mech infantry. I've noted they can be slight supply hogs, using 2.5 supply each even with logi companies; they seem to be taking attrition from low supply more often than not.

Would it be reasonable to limit them to groups of 4? More divisions in a group? Less?

Yes, I've set my logistics to use trucks. I typically have them in a separate army/army group from my infantry and use them for spearheads, typically a two-wide front line and a spearhead order. They often wind up in poor supply, and to some extent... four such divisions in a single spearhead consume half the supply which can be provided over a basic railroad.
