you don't have to push immediately. For example, if you invade from siberia you can take alaska that has no supply whatsoever you can build a port there while you defend and drop supply with transport planes. It will be easy to invade because the Us station only one at best

See that button that says "Danzig" in the upper left? That's where your fleet is stationed out of, where they implicitly go back to to refuel. They can't carry out missions too far away from that.
You can either click the "Danzig" button to manually set their home base, or select some regions you'd like them to operate in, and hit the gear button just to its left to automatically set their home base.

Naval supply hubs can also help. If you have a home base in Hawaii and a naval hub in Manila, your fleet can operate near the Philippines as though their home base was in Manila.
I do not know if this is unlimited; I'd have to try and see if that works for very large separations of home base and naval supply hub.

That is comical. Reminds me of when I couldn't figure out why a civil war in Ecuador would not end. Only substantially later did I realize where the last rebel holdout was: the Galapagos Islands some distance west of the mainland.

2 - subs are only useful by 1940 or cruiser subs. All before are a waste
3 - BBs aren't really useful in singleplayer
