Well the monarch choices will stay the same but the focuses were not very good. I was also scared of making decisions for some reason back then so I will probably make most of the integrations (especially for the America monarch path) decisions
and i also considered a system similiar to the skoda works prioritisation in the new dlc, but with a govt prioritisation (internal, military, economy etc)

Ignoring the controversy behind the new DLC, I think the industry focuses were cool and honestly some of the most developed in the entire game
I think it has to do with focus inlay windows and maybe also scripted guis too

I think the main controversy was the lack of very much Slovak content which was advertised early on but later removed. I'm not too mad about it myself since I never probably would've played them since you either:
a. Would wait three years to play them only to be Germany's puppet
b. Play the 1939 start date (which next to nobody does) and be Germany's puppet

Anyone able to make Namelist modding a little clearer? I want to replace division names for whatever country I'm playing with a different set of names, ideally randomly chosen from a list. I know there's this page: https://hoi4.paradoxwikis.com/Namelist_modding But it doesn't really make it clear on the syntax, or what I should be replacing. Nor how I would go about making sure it is random, and available to all countries.

You could have different versions of the list and randomly select a country flag that enables one of the lists I guess if that works for your issue
Default namelist is attached to the unit template though, so I dont think you can easily overwrite the ones at game start

After game start when you are picking manually you could have randomness by running an on_action on game start that sets one of several country flags, which just sets a variant of your namelist with your names, just ordered differently

If simply as an extra list on only your country, by setting a country flag on game start for only your is_ai = no country, you could randomize which namelist by doing a random_list of different country flags
So there's no way to make a new namelist in the folder, "All countries" that overrides whatever name list they start with, if it's a player?

Best I can do is recommend you cut your modlist in half, reload the game, and with each reload cut the modlist in half until you eventually find the culprit.
However you can also open a mods file folder within the Hoi4 launcher, but you won’t know what you’re looking at a lot of the time.

im trying to change the portraits of leader nothing else, i at the moment have managed to make gfx folder, with leaders folder, with folders for example FRA, ENG, GER and so on
within those i have the .dds file of the leader with the changed image (for example portrait_GER_adolf_hitler. dds) but when i do start the game with the mod enabled, it doesnt work, the portraits arent changed
im wondering why that is
Could be a typo in a folder name, the gfx definition is also case sensitive, so check that your files and folders have the same spelling and capitalization as the basegame ones

Don't use set_variable. That sets the variable to the desired value. Use add_to_variable instead which adds on top of the pre-existing value.

im tryna host a multiplayer game with my friends who are all new players and want to find a simplified hoi4 mp mod to play on. I dont want to use TFB because it can overcomplicated production and stuff but i still want a streamlined MP historical experience to make sure someone doesnt pick alt history by accident. In this game I was also hoping to turn off a good amount of the DLC to simplify the tank, ship, plane, and simplify the game furthur.

I had an idea for a mod.
The game starts normally in 1936, with no major changes to history.
In 1937, the Hindenburg disaster occurs as it did in real history, shaking global confidence in airships and putting the future of the technology into question.
After the incident, the player receives an important choice:
abandon the airship program (historical path)
continue investing in the technology (alternate timeline)
If the player decides to continue, a new national focus branch focused on airship development will be unlocked, along with an exclusive technology tree.

When creating your mod, where should you start? Creating the new countires first? Or creating the new states or something else?
Get the fundamentals down, any new states, country files, that kinda stuff. The way I've done it is Map -> Place countries -> Create major features (ideologies for example) -> Start filling in the relevant country files with details (leaders, etc.) -> Start adding in fun stuff (focus trees, nat spirits, etc.)
It's definitely not the best way to do it but it's how I've done it

The changed 'war' focuses of the USA Rework. I felt the war operations would be better suited for a sub branch under War Department (which has received a new icon) and it will be available to all of the democratic paths excluding the Libertarian one (because it works so differently). War Plans Division has now also become a sub-branch of War Department

guys I made my own mod but it wont worked I changed somethings in the defines.lua file copyed it into my mod and renamed it to 09_defines.lua it makes paratroops only need 1 plane for 1 transport but it wont work

You can also check states for strategic region (like in navy/air map mode), makes selecting large areas like Ukraine easier

The important thing is to never have a requirement for controlling/owning a country tag. It should always be a state or an array of states, I believe

I'm trying to get a country to focus all of its troops on a single front so it stops reassigning generals willy-nilly, but it keeps assigning a division to the border of a different country because, according to aiview, it's an "Easy Target".
Can someone please explain what tells the AI that a country is an "Easy Target", and if there is a way to make the AI disregard this?

Check those OOBs to make sure they aren't trying to load units without a template, and that the provinces defined are correct. I'd definitely check the error and crash logs. It could just be as simple as some province doesn't have a port set up right

And it’s referencing state and province scopes? It could be that. The game does like to bug out when you reference the wrong states or provinces

The best way I’ve found has been to just focus on the mod itself. People will then come to the server as they get interested in the mod.
Nice, that’s a good skill to have if you’re working in a mod by yourself or with a small team. I’ve recently gotten into making focus icons myself ‘cause I make a lot of trees and don’t want to flood the artists who work on ECR.

however cambodia will not get the event when france falls
and Cambodia when released (i forced the event) it keeps the cosmetic flag and name

I was wondering if anyone knows of a mod that makes it so the the AI makes more random decisions (as opposed to turning off historical focuses, which just seems to be communist civil war simulator) with their focuses, and makes nations declare war a bit more often/randomly? I did find a mod called Chaos AI which partially does that, but I'm not sure if I just don't know how to install workshop mods or if it's out of date lmao
if you set the AI to random in gamerules, they will be legitimately random, alt-hist plays off what the rest of the world (specifically the player) does, but random will cause france to go red, germany to stay fasc, then russia and britain goes monarchist
but mods wise, i don't think there is other than chaos randomizer mods that give random events
like Poland bets entire country to morocco and loses type chaos

modify the event reward for germany forming vichy france, where it also sends an event to your new tags, the framework should be there, or in a vichy or french event, because i know Syria and Lebanon have an event for it, maybe check for events for the framework

I was making a mod a while ago, and I left the development because I didnt know how to do a bunch of things, like custom images or how to adapt a mod for a new DLC, eg. When gotterdammerung came out, I didnt know how to act so the new content would be adapted into the mod.

I'd suggest using something like draw.io to plot out your focus trees before making them.
Using a rule of thumb that each focus must have 1 X variable of space between it and ones next to it helps for transitioning that charted spacing to in-code

I would state that's debatable. While I think that the USA was integral to the Allied war effort, and the main reason why the Allies were able to win in the Pacific, we sat out the first two years of the war

Its either gonna be very inaccurate due to the size of it, and the maximum map size being 8192:4096
picture 1 is the decision category picture two and three is the decisions
It's actually determined by number of pixels, the maximum being approximately 13,238,272 (which matches a 25856x512 map).
And the minimum province sixe, as well as the km per pixel are defines, so you can probably scale down the map a bit and the only real issue would be province connections, which stop generating after 65536 (approx 20k provinces according to the wiki). Basegame has approx 13400 so you even have some space to add new provinces without having to delete existing ones
Maybe also downscale the 3d models a bit to fit the smaller scale
You just proved that it isnt possible to make a good map like that, even with the pixel size for provinces required, and that connections literally break
GBBT was probably the most fun I've ever had with a hoi4 path ngl just because of how ridiculous it is lmao
You have around 6k provinces before connections break, maybe even more if you remove provinces from very province dense areas or delete some of the smaller islands. Wouldn't necessarily be a bad map considering the scope of it
