When i got into a similar situation, i simply held out by the river which goes through poland. I then just held on both fronts and made my army bigger, denied peace offers, untill i could push on pne front eith small 1 province ensirclements.

You basically hav4 to win by 1917, because after that the british embargo will finally starve you out. But i wouldnt call it "bullshit" just realistic. I would actually say it is to some degree more well balanced than vanilla, but since equipment disappesr mixh quicker, and troops have different stats, its a little harder to get used to than vanilla.
i don't consider it cheating because the ai bordergore is disgusting

Its a good mod due to its well developed lore, interesting and balanced content, and fun mini games.
But i would argue EAW is a better mod as it has the same qualities, but is even more unique in the possible paths

Road to 56 is in my opinion the best vanilla plus mod. I think every countri has a foucs tree including countries which are not even released om start date. It also has egypt as a playable nation which is pretty sweet.
For EAW go to the steam workshop and sort the mods by most popular of all time. I think its number 5.

My only complaints of rt56 is the lack of formable nations integrated into it. I think it would be the strawberry on top.
oh yea, i also noticed how most major countries do not have focus trees that will actually surpass the contents of ww2 except us and soviet because of the cold war content, its kind of disappointing
It is completely true, but i can forgive it a little as the only way to make good post war content would be to make the entire game much more scripted, which wouldnt work with all the extra paths

So basically I was trying to stitch up a generic tanks and planes icons mod from Lamp's mod but just with generic icons
I put the dds files in the planes folder and put the respective names in the graphic_db
USA couping everyone in south america and africa, china maybe attempting to occupy vladivostok, and return of fascism in germany
but only a few of those icon showed up when I booted the game
just my thought

Hey, all. New to the server and I've never made a mod before.
I'm playing a mod where there can be long periods of peace between wars. It's sorta bugging me that manpower never regenerates, as distinct from population growth. I get that when people are gone, they're gone, but I'd enjoy a mechanic to represent new people reaching service age.
In EU4, for instance, a province's manpower pool regenerates over about 10 years, IIRC.
Would it be easy, or even possible, to make some kind of event that silently fires every month, which gives countries some very small percentage of their national population in manpower, capped so as not to exceed Total Manpower?
(Preferably, I'd tweak it so to add diminishing returns as you approach Total Manpower, and maybe some other tweaks, but I'm not going to worry about that right now.)
First I searched around for existing mods, but can't find anything like this, which makes me suspect there's some subtle reason it can't, or shouldn't, exist.
I guess it just needs to read:
1: national population
2: total manpower (national population x conscription %)
3: all manpower currently in use
then plug them into some kind of formula... or some kind of horrible if/else tree to approximate one.
I figure this is either easy or completely impossible.
ie: each month, if [manpower available + in use] < [total manpower] then add [national population * 0.0008] or something
So simple I assume there's a simple reason nobody's done it!

You mean population growth?
Unless I'm mistaken (and maybe I am), that only represents how much the aggregate population is increasing.
So if you have 100 million people, and over some amount of time it grows to 101 million people, you'll gain another [1 million x conscription level] in manpower.
But while that's happening, the first 100 million people are still... turning over, right? The old ones dying, new ones being born, others reaching conscription age. Consider: If you had some hypothetical national spirit rendering population growth 0, everybody having exactly 2.1 kids etc, then going by the vanilla rules, you'd receive 0 new recruits across 5 or 10 or 20 years. But realistically, that population would still be generating new recruits. Does that make sense?

Having it fire as a monthly event though would lag the game to all hell. I think the current solution is an accurate enough representation of how the population would increase over time, though that percentage of increase should ideally differ between each nation and fluctuate over time. I think it the population growth was 0 in a hypothetical situation, that would simply mean that people are dying at the same rate as people are being born, so there wouldn't really be a change in the overall population if that makes sense
Manpower growth should absolutely be tied to population growth, though there are technically in-game ways to increase it in other ways (like Ideological Loyalty)
1: Right, the overall population would stay the same, but manpower lost through casualties would slowly recover, essentially because the dead/maimed people are "aging out" and replaced with different ones.
2: well, is there a less laggy way to do it? I'm new so an event was just the first thing to pop into my head...
Don't hospitals feed manpower into the pool without lagging? Is there something that could be done with that? š¤
Alternatively, maybe I could have it fire once or twice a year and just accept intermittent horrible lag in the name of my grognardism.

If I can set the variable to "population * constant" then that solves the problem, otherwise it might have to keep running checks, which might lag again... IDK though

Well... in the name of trying to check to see if I'm misunderstanding something before I change anything...
Here's an extreme, hypothetical example: imagine a country with 100 million people and 0 population growth. The population just doesn't grow for whatever reason. They're having kids at the exact same rate they're dying. And its conscription rate is locked at 5% forever because it's a thought experiment.
It fights one war and loses 4.5 million people because its micro was trash, and has 500k left. Then it sits there in peace for 100 years. The clock runs up to 2038 or something.
Diegetically the 4.5 million dudes would've retired and died of natural causes, if they hadn't died in the war. The 500k remaining would've also retired and died. But if I understand the game rules right, at the end of 100 years, the country's total manpower (army + available) would still be only 500k. It'd never ever recover.
Have I got this wrong?
So that's an extreme example, but the same process would be happening, at a very slow rate, every month. It should slowly recover back to 5 million. (arguably 4.775)
Watching a video about using variables and it warns that variables are a quick way for mods to bloat the game and make it run slow, since it gets checked every day. So maybe adding one to every single country isn't the best plan.
Still, that's plan B until I can think of a plan A.

You may also have a duplicate localization folder in your documents

copy the two bookmark file names and create empty files in your mod
it loads but it wont show the bookmark instead it just goes straight into country selection
if you have only one bookmark it skips the selection screen

I'm developing a submod for MD (the problem at hand doesn't really depend on MD), I'm trying to have a system where if you start a civil war in a country and the breakaway government wins then the generated country (winner of the civil war) gets annexed by the old government (looser), so that it can preserve the focus tree, national spirits and various functions that MD has for some countries. Then the external country, that initiated the civil war, will get an event with an option to puppet the country that had the civil war.
So right now I add a flag to the generated country in the civil war target_of_coup and a variable with the id of the external country that initiated it called coup_master. Then in the on_civil_war_end in 00_on_actions.txt I do this:

the event fires without any problems, but nothing happens and I get nothing in the error.log.
But if I try to launch the same event from the ROOT (winner of civil war) in on_civil_war_end without doing the annexation command it works fine and the external country is able to puppet the winner of the civil war

I am making a mod that adds a new radio station, and it all works fine except for the localisation. Despite my attempts to define localisation, the ingame names for the songs are not the intended ones. Either I'm making a mistake or I am simply misinterpreting where the intended song names should go.
The directory is localisation\english\music_station_l_english.yml
attached are screenshots of the music.asset file and the music_station_l_english.yml
that's not the entire music.asset code but it should be enough to take a gander
according to this tutorial I followed the text between the quotes should be the stylized final song name I want it to show up
and the name preceding the :0 should just be the exact same as the one I put in the name: value of the .asset file
but for some reason ingame all the songs display names such as Cowboy Show by shadowkristal rather than Cowboy Show
The localisation key may only have the English alphabet, underscores, dots, hyphens, and numbers. Anything else such as spaces, letters with diacritics, or non-Latin script will break the rest of the file.

Question: So the game rule to balkanize a country/continent, can I make it so its the default option that is also loaded before the game starts (if you currently set the game rule to balkanize it wont balkanize until you start the game, can I do it so it will be automatically balkanized before I start the game and do I have to do it manually [aka manually add the balkanization into the states as if I was making a new country]
you can change the default game rules, but I think the map in the selection screen is based on the state owner in the history files.

Hello, I'm tryna download some visual mods, but I noticed when I go to the game launcher these messages keep popping up and I have no clue how to fix them, which is why for the past few months I've been playing HOI4 while selecting the launch option on Steam "Launch game (skip launcher)". If anyone knows how to resolve these issues please let me know!
uhhh open steam and go to hoi4, rightclick the icon and then click properties. A window should pop up with a bunch of stuff on the left side, go on "Installed Files" then you have to press "Verify integrity of game files" (or something like that the, it should be the last option)
Steam will then check files and download any missing or corrupted files and after that it should work? if not then i guess reinstall it

Mods won't turn on for me
This just started today
I enable player lead peace conferences and millennium dawn
They tick green like normal
But when I actually load into the game, they aren't on
As if I had disabled all mods before launching
I hit resume and it says it couldn't load the mods
I hit play and it just loads me into normal vanilla menu
If I manually load up my modded save then the game just crashes

The HOI Launcher told me to rename/remove a .sqlite file in my HOI files, I first renamed it and nothing was fixed, so I removed it and now my HOI launcher just doesn't launch, I verified file integrity with steam, reinstalled HOI4 and the file is still not there and my launcher is still broken, what do I do?

Could make a mod to have some nations annex others at start or with decisions, would not be so hard to do, but it would require a particular like⦠idea or plan of how you wanted them to be consolidated
But basically it could be this:
- Add global decision category for consolidation
- Decisions are only available to player
- Each decision then can set a certain predetermined grouping to occur, or one button to do all of them.
Or could just have an event that fires immediately that does it too if you never want to change it

you can do it in vanilla, just go into a non ironman mode game and then use the ` key. then type observe and then the country tag you want to play (example: GER for germany). set it to 5 speed and a bot will do everything for you

That is actually a dream-like conceptā¦. I have 500+ hours but still donāt fully understand the stats of my division templates. If you are new, just play with some cheats for a while and after 200 hours you actually start to learn most of the mechanics⦠at least thatās how it worked for me!
