hey @violet prairie here are some notes for you

You should always ask these questions whenever you die/use an ability as baptiste.

**Immortality Field:
Where am I throwing the lamp?/Who am I throwing the lamp to?
Why am I throwing the lamp? Am I countering an ability, ultimate, or saving my teammate?
Will your teammate die if the lamp is not thrown?

General tips:
Why did I die in this scenario? Was there anything I could have done to prevented my death (such as better positioning, ability usage like using lamp or shift ability to save myself, playing more at the back of the team instead of the front so that the enemy can't clobber me, etc.)?

Amplification Matrix:
Is the enemy team in front of me? Can they easily hide behind a corner to avoid the window?
Is my team near me that they are ready to shoot through the window?**

Some examples of your uses of immortality field that I noticed could use some improvement

Q1: Where am I throwing the lamp?/Who am I throwing the lamp to?
A: In this instance, you are throwing it towards the direction of your ball, but it is directly at the enemy team. Consider throwing your lamp behind cover if possible to prevent it from getting destroyed. Additionally, ball is an extremely mobile hero. Lamp is generally better for non-mobile heroes like rein, orisa, cassidy, or mei for example since they can and usually want to stay in the lamp.
Q3: Why am I throwing the lamp? Am I countering an ability, ultimate, or saving my teammate?
A: You’re throwing it to save the ball, but by the time the lamp lands, the ball has already gone past your lamp.
Q4: Will your teammate die if the lamp is not thrown?
A: In this instance, no because ball is an extremely mobile hero and has a good bit of survivability. The lamp got little value.

An instance of where your lamp usage was somewhat better is in 2:20 in the VOD (you throw your lamp at a zarya)

Q1: Where am I throwing the lamp?/Who am I throwing the lamp to?
Towards the Zarya (she is not threatened by the enemy wrecking ball mines). This lamp is better than the one thrown at the ball because Zarya can use the lamp more effectively; however, consider throwing lamp behind your teammates within the lamp radius since their natural instinct is to run away when taking damage.
Q2: Why am I throwing the lamp? Am I countering an ability, ultimate, or saving my teammate?
You want to save your Zarya, but your Zarya isn’t in as much danger as you think. She is not directly at risk of death (for example, if she was in the open of a deadeye or is shattered on the ground, that would be at risk).
Q3: Will your teammate die if the lamp is not thrown?
Your Moira was pocketing the Zarya then, so you should generally trust your other healer then instead of throwing such a valuable ability like lamp.

If for example, you saved your lamp and didn’t use it on the zarya in 2:20, then you could have used it on yourself or your teammates at around 2:37. Remember, you can also use lamp for yourself if you are also in danger! Your life as support matters more than your tanks since you can’t throw a lamp to your teammates/heal them if you yourself are dead.

A great use of lamp was at 4:05 when you save the Doomfist. Ask yourself the 4 above questions on why this lamp was good as an exercise.

A questionable use of lamp is at 9:03. You can also ask yourself the 4 above questions on why this lamp did not get value as an exercise.

#

Some examples of positioning that could use some improvement: As a support, you generally want to be behind the rest of your team, so that your dps and tanks are ahead of you and you have a good vantage point of who to heal. In 4:52 for example, you hear that the doom is using his ultimate against your hanzo teammate, but you ignore that since you are too busy healing the zarya who isn’t in any danger. Some general awareness to check in on the rest of your teammates and your surroundings can help save which teammates need healing the most.
6:14 is another example of where your positioning could use improvement since you’re trying to output damage, but your team could really use heals and you are in the sightlines of an enemy bastion. You generally want to do damage/heal behind cover, so that you are less likely to die.

Ill probably jump into quick play later and focus on using my abilitys with those questions

#

yea for sure 🙂

#

your amplification matrix usage is actually pretty good

#

I would say in general I listed some examples of where I asked these questions and evaluated why some abilities did not get much value, but if you go through the VOD with these questions in mind eventually you'll build better habits and won't need to ask these questions as often since they will be more automatic

#

Also if I went through every example it would probably be way too much text lol

Aiming just comes with playing more bap, and you will also improve your positioning by asking these questions as well

#

If you have specific questions about moments in the VOD where you felt confused/didn't know what to do, also free to ask
