is this PC or console?
PC
actually, 1:07 should have told me the answer to that
it seems like your sens and your mousepad might be conflicting a little bit
the number that really matters is the eDPI, effective DPI, which is just that number times your mouse DPI
though i'm not sure i understand what you mean
when you do that grapple jump at 1:07, it seems like it takes you 3 full swipes of the mouse to do a 180 degree turn
i have a large mouse pad but don't tend to use most of it
primarily use my mouse with my wrist, not my arm?
do you remember what you probably did at 1:07 to turn like that?
does that imply i should up my sens so i can turn more? though that feels like it'd be harder to aim
i think it was three short mouse movements on my mousepad
just wrist movements
okay, so it wasn't lifting the mouse to get more room to move
then the next question would be, why did you stop in the middle twice? was it to get your bearings and see if you were turned the right way?
while turning? or where/what time?
yeah, while turning at 1:08
oh, i was swiping my mouse left to right three times to complete the 180
i know I'm getting really detailed here but this sounds important to me
i'm trying to put 2 and 2 together here
i appreciate the perspective / advice
overwatch is the only fps i've played in any significant amount
if you didn't need to lift up the mouse for more room, why were 3 separate movements needed?
i didn't want to move my arm ?
yeah, totally, I thought I might have some useful tips because it was kind of the same for me - I had to start from almost no experience too
(so maybe i should set sens higher ? )
hmm, is that because of comfort, or you heard it was good, or what?
physical comfort, or just being used to doing it one way?
i have a large mousepad but my mouse doesn't move very far in practice
because definitely don't do anything that will hurt
just used to it i think
do you mean that the mouse doesn't cooperate with what you're trying to do, or...?
no, i just played a lot of rts / strategy games
and didn't need to make big mouse movements there
my arm is resting on my mousepad
i'd have to lift my arm to use the entire mouse pad
aha, well, when I saw that, I assumed the advice was going to be the same advice many people have gotten: either increase your sens, or get a mousepad big enough for your sens... but you've got a different situation.
how eager are you to try it another way?
i could increase sense
what would you suggest?
to be truthful, I'm having trouble understanding the smaller movements
you're not lifting the mouse after each movement to reset its position?
that's why I'm having trouble picturing it
let me ask another way:
err yes i am
"lifting" meaning raising it high enough so the sensor doesn't register movement
yep, am lifting to move it back
a little bit, didn't like it
have been using my mouse this way for 30+ years so hard habit to change :d
i had to learn arm aiming from scratch, myself - i heard it was easier on the wrist for strain and all that, so I gave it a shot
well, plenty of people do wrist aiming. Hopefully someone peeks in here and can help out.
sounds like i should increase sens?
I feel like maybe increasing sens might work
for arm aiming they say that you should be able to do (at least) a 180 using the entire mouse pad - but i have no idea what the advice is for wrist aiming.
earlier in the code, my impression was definitely that your sens was very low
I'm awful at widowmaker so I wasn't going to judge that part too much until I saw the results
after watching a little more of the code: Sure there are other things to improve on, but you're standing in reasonable places most of the time...
will try 11% to see how that feels
A lot of your positioning errors are coming from the fact that your movement is hampered in that way
when you grapple and it isn't smooth and you fall back down
so I really do think that this is the one major thing keeping you in bronze
thank you
will explore higher sens
it does feel like with low sens i can't "catch" the enemy with my crosshair / move fast enough
it probably won't fix everything instantly but let me know what new difficulties you find
appreciate it!
eventually I can show you some good aim exercises
to be clear, my aim is pretty mid, but this is foundational stuff to build on
i like iostux's
i think iostux is where I heard about the "big flick, then small correction" technique
once your sens is fixed you'll be able to try that for real
glad to help!
trying this spreadsheet approach to try to find good sens
