thank you very much
I've gone from silver 5 to gold 1 in just a week and a half, so hitting plat would be huge
(plat now)
I had to work later than anticipated, so I’ll look at this tomorrow. Sorry.
no worries at all
There's a lot to unpack in this one. Do you have anytime after 7 EST tonight?
@wary finch
really? its 11 minutes
Yes.
There's quite a bit that's going wrong, and I think it'd be better to explain it personally
well, thank god i sent a particularly bad game
honestly if you want to send a dm when youre available and if im free im free, im not sure what ill be doing
and also thank you
kk
I'm going to be speaking very broadly during this. These will largely be macro concepts and, while more easily explained in a live review, I hope I can convey these issues properly. Feel free to ask me questions about anything presented here.
Your first issue is understanding effective range and positioning as a DPS. You were on Bastion to start, and then Sojourn later. Note that you start doing better on Sojourn for two reasons: her effective range is significantly better than Bastion's own range, and you are against a long-range poke team composition.
You need to begin internalizing what the goal of your chosen DPS hero is and working towards that. For example, you won't be able to just sit in the main angle as Bastion and spam versus Hog/Hanzo/Widow.
Same with Cassidy, which you swap to later.
You take unnecessary peeks and are punished as a result.
On that note, this leads us to your second core weakness. You have zero angle control; you're essentially just sitting main, spamming, and fishing for kills. Especially as a DPS, your job is to apply pressure from multiple angles. Sometimes that's with a group, sometimes it'll be on your own. Against a poke comp like the red team's, you are fighting to clear out these angles.
This entire game is in freefall because your team is unable to police these angles. Take it slowly, apply pressure patiently, and work towards securing the map (not necessarily fragging out).
that makes a lot of sense, thank you
I will focus more on securing the map and work on my angles, honestly what I did in that game had worked every other game, hence why I was so stuck
however, would it be stupid of me to argue that I think bastion is better to start because typically beating him involves switching your comp?
No, especially not anymore
I think he trains a lot of bad habits when learning your fundamentals
Good players are already doing these things; bad players are playing one angle, playing without natural cover, and are being mowed down by a cheese character
You can still play Bastion while training these skills, sure, but I also think that you’re currently hitting a wall at your current skill level and cheesing low elo lobbies won’t help you improve
understood
I'll be archiving this in a day, but feel free to ping me with any questions
Where is this coming from?
And I didn't see it in that replay, outside of taking crazy 180 flanks
alright
I didn't say "real skill" or anything like that, I was talking exclusively about training your fundamentals
Are you looking for an argument?
especially this part
