Hello everyone! I saw that there is a post about vac nukes using SFM, but design there is not scalable and depends on a lot of redstone. I made a different approach using SFM which I believe is pretty easy and supports up to 24 parallel nukes with 100% uptime and safety (if setup everything correctly of course).

Setup guide is in pdf. And also a small video demo on how it works.

If you have any questions or if you don't understand something in the text (well, I'm pretty bad at writing), ask and I'll gladly answer)

Also I can drop world for you to check an actual MIM configuration. And also I think that there are possibly can be some improvements of this configuration, so if you see those please share your ideas)

P.S. this design assumes that you already have vacuum freezer somewhere.

What exactly is different from the SFM setup that is already posted? Because that setup does support multiple nukes with 100% uptime and safety?

Also, what do you mean by "depends on a lot of redstone"?

I meant this post https://discord.com/channels/181078474394566657/1268864153213337633 (maybe I missing some other post with SFM vac nuke?)

The main difference I would say that my approach much more compact, more scalable than previous one.

Also, what do you mean by "depends on a lot of redstone"?
Well, I'm not sure how to formulate it properly, but I think that design there is overcomplicated and really hard to expand.

#

Oh I see what you mean)

#

There is the same thing in flowcharts which I couldn't see lol.

I basically recreated bicycle. Cringe but whatever

grave aurora
#

this could work without applied energistics yeah?

grave aurora
#

maybe ive done something wrong but the reactor wont start at all

grave aurora
#

The redstone control is scuffed but I can’t fix it

sometimes when there are 2 coolants swaps at the same moment, it puts a fuel rod in the place like in this example

#

Where does the 24 parallel come from? I assume that was max amount that was tested or did actually have issues with more ?

hot rune

Or you mean ME interface? If it is connected with inventory cable then I have no idea. It works in 2.7.3 and 2.8.0 for me

#

If it doesn't work whatsoever you can use 2 different storages for fuel rods and depleted fuel rods and connect them to ME interface using ender io pipes

hot rune
#

It would be better if SFM had integer variables, but it is how it is

clear veldt
#

how does the program understand the pattern of placed rods and coolant cells? maybe i skipped a step or smth. It's just putting everything in without any order and then the reactor blows up doom

hot rune
#

And it does not understand pattern it just fills missing elements

clear veldt
#

i mean my program just puts in all the 40 rods and only after that coolant cells

hot rune
#

oh I see what you mean. You need to put correct scheme in the reactor before starting the SFM

clear veldt
#

I see fail Thanks for explaining everything

not sure how similar it works to your design but I based mine on that and it works very good with multiple reactors

# hot rune Applicable Tier: EV+ Version: 2.7.x Hello everyone! I saw that there is a post...

what does it make 100% uptime ? if you mentioned it somewhere sorry I just looked trough it fast. can SFM take out dmged coolant and put in new one in single tick without any delay ?
if not can it sense reactor cycle ?
As far as i know reactors are unpredictable and wont turn on imidiently after signal is applied and also wont turn off imidiently. if cycle is 20tick and you introduce 1 tick where you have no coolant in reactor you have 1/20 chance on each iteration to get heat which is fairly low and if you get lucky on initialization it may take days of runtime to blow but can still blow..
I spent whole day doing this with AE using state cells with 1sec delay before giving ae access to reactor after its turned off and then turning back on with one tick delay and turning access off instantly.
I was runing ae just cycling colant bellow 75% for several minutes with no checks just by having looping cell in IO ports and prioritized storage busses and i did not get any heat but its certainly not safe

hot rune
humble hull
#

thats crazy

#

well i guess im gonna go that route programming is fun and i can use IO ports and busses elsewhere

#

how does it execute stuff ? entire one iteration of loop in single tick ?

humble hull
#

😄

hot rune
hot rune
humble hull
#

well you can allways stand there and replace cells by holding fresh one with your cursor and clicking on dmged one xD that also swaps it instantly

humble hull
humble hull
#

well i build it I went trough all nodes several times I stocked all inputs with enough rods and cells I have reactor with stuff set up in it and it just doesent turn that reactor on

hot rune
humble hull
#

I went trough everything multiple times I found some errors like I selected both variable and reactor or forgot to click whitelist somewhere but conditions seem to be all right

hot rune
hot rune
#

And continue this process

humble hull
hot rune
humble hull
#

that works

#

only thing that works is if i use it as fancy redstone cable xD

#

it doesent detect coolant inside

hot rune
humble hull
#

In everywhere where its supposed to touch reactor i used that variable global white with reactor block checked in there

#

wtf it just started working now

#

I was only clicking trough stuff to make screenshots and now it works...

#

well it maybe works xD i will know that when i let it run enough to give it chance to go boom

#

its taking forever to drain that coolant xD

#

it works well at least swaps coolant whether it works or not thats something ill find out after few hours of runing it

humble hull
#

also what is the reason for timer ? script can update its self..

hot rune
humble hull
#

oh you cant set it under second ?

hot rune
#

Yeah

#

Only integer > 0

humble hull
#

hmm yea well then

#

does timer have silent mode ? XD

hot rune
humble hull
#

I have 3 timers now around base ticking 2-4times a second and im hearing that ticking even when there is none at this point

#

I dream ticking

hot rune
#

And yes, redstone timer is really annoying with this noise

humble hull
#

im gonna be soon idle tapping my fingers in 0.25sec intervals or noding my head or something if this continues xD

Hello, i had 4 nukes with 99% mox Running for About 1hr After one exploded. I have more than 200 Coolant cells for Backup so I dont really get his this is possible. I am playing on a Server is it possible that this is making Problems?

hot rune
# trail osprey Hello, i had 4 nukes with 99% mox Running for About 1hr After one exploded. I ha...

Hmm, can I see setup? On my server I had this setup for like 2 months and it have never exploded.
Btw there are better fuel rods (plutonium one that runs for 70k seconds, generates 302k eu/tick) than mox, I prefer using them.

I believe there are a few ways to blow up, if it was set wrong:

  1. Conditions are wrong. You need to have 14 cells and 40 fuel rods per reactor.
  2. Swap cells too late (I'm using 1-5% for 360k cell)
  3. For some reason server could skip a lot of ticks of sfm while reactor was active
  4. Forgot to add some emitters on reactor disabling

I need to see the setup to understand though

trail osprey
#

I am using 1-20% for the Swap. Thanks for the Tip with Plutonium makes sense to switch.
Here are i think the important bits of the Setup

#

I also switched up some Coolant cells in case the setup is Overwhelmed with multiple Switches in one Reactor. Works fine since my first Massage

trail osprey
#

Okay just had the first Fuel rod Swap. Multiple Things are going wrong.
Both Conditions dont seem to work. I had one reactor with 20 Coolant cells and the System didnt shut off. 2 other Reactors exploded almost Instantly Probably Coolant swap Going wrong and Inputing Fuel rods instead of Coolant.

hot rune
trail osprey
#

Oh ha i am stupid xD In the Fuel rods and Coolant swap chains i also only put in 40 and 14.

#

Thanks for the Help

vale fable
#

After testing the setup i found two issues, maybe because i didnt set it up correctly:

  1. On the step where coolant is replaced, when no new coolant is available it stops too late and the reactor temp may rise.
  2. When the output chest for the coolant is full and the coolant cant be extracted and thus gets destroyed it wont get replaced fast enough and the reactor temp rises again.

To "fix" these issues i made 2 new conditions:

  1. To check if enough spare coolant is available (I set it at 14xnumber of reactos to ensure i can replace every single coolant cell in the reactors. Maybe a bit overprotective but better safe then sorry)
  2. To check if any coolant cells with 1%, 2%, 3% damage left are in the reactor. If so the export didnt work and the reactor shuts down. The cells are still setup to extract from 1%-20% so they will still get removed if the space clears up.

(Since this was just a quick fix and my first time using SVM there is at least one issue: you need to have over 14 new coolant cells in the input chest for the reactor to start.)

Another thing i would add is another redstone receiver to get an input from an energy detector cover to stop the reactor when the battery buffer is almost full which shouldnt be too hard to implement but ill have to look into it since its my first time with SVM but from what i could see it should be fairly simple.

Other than that its a pretty good design 😄 I didnt know SVM is this powerful i need to use it way more but i dont know for what ^^

You can use last Condition (R) for this, just add "AND Gate" with your another conditions

About mentioned problems:

  1. I'm not sure that it will stop too late, because right after coolant swaps it checks that there are enough coolant cells in reactors so it must stop if there is not enough
  2. Reasonable, probably I should've mentioned it earlier that I assume output storage works always perfectly... But there is certainly some possibility that something can go wrong... So yeah, better to add another check as you did

I disabled the safety checks i added and tested it again with a 2% durabilty coolant cell and no new cells in the chest buffer. when the cell gets destroyed the reactor heats up. Maybe it just isnt fast enough with the internal logic. Yeah i put another redstone condition for an additional redstone receiver between the turn on and the kill switch node with strength set to 0 through 13. That seems to work.

jade dagger
#

oh I think I know why you are limited by 24 nukes...

hot rune
jade dagger
#

tbh mox carried my energy needs

#

also my friend basically built this logic but without any rod amount checks and that one has also be running without problems for 200h now shrug

#

so that could even be expanded to more than 24 but with risk of breaking

somber wedge
#

Copy the program and make another set up

jade dagger
#

just making sure these both increase by 40 per reactor I add right?

#

or only the condition?

hot rune
#

Honestly the amount in output is pretty useless but whatever

jade dagger
#

if I take a coolant out Cond 2 works but no new cell is getting inserted, no idea

#

oh

hot rune
jade dagger
#

after changing both to fuzzy it works

#

weird

jade dagger
#

if I take out the core it will insert new the core now and if I take out coolant it will insert new coolant now by hand

hot rune
#

Output checks are not checking inventory, they will just try to output at max 40 rods and that's it. Need to rework this scheme, too many issues

jade dagger
#

weird then

#

well it should work now at least 🙏

#

looks good

#

it still says cond 2 is false lmao

#

it shouldnt run but it does shrug

hot rune
#

Nothing bad will happen, trust me innocent

jade dagger
#

will test if smth happens when I restart server now just to be sure

hot rune
jade dagger
#

that could be the case

#

not that good with sfm just made it how I think it would work

#

yeah know it works properly ty

Im now expanding reactors and variables dont seem to work only one reactor gets managed and emiter variable doesent work at all

#

I cant figure it out no matter what i do it behaves the same

hot rune
humble hull
#

I still dont know whats wrong with it but i broke cable connecting these reactors deleted variable block set it to diferernt variable reset all stuff to use that new variable now reactor one works emiter still doesent

hot rune
#

Can I see the setup?

humble hull
#

yea soon as i get in game

jade dagger
#

my core setup has been working good so far

humble hull
#

that first reactor i build was working no matter what i changed when i broke that cable to it and kept only new one newone still wasnt working..

jade dagger
#

I added these to see what is wrong

#

like what condition is wrong and if nukes are turned off/on rn

humble hull
#

dont mind these 2 extra conditions at the end they dont realy do much it was my atempt at turning reactor on/off depending on how much power i have Im not sure what its even doing but it seems to be holding reactor around same output as my powerdemand when lsc gets full

#

I removed emiter variable entirely it just didnt work

#

it works now all stuff has var selected instead of reactors

#

im not sure what this does but i selected this for all stuff where stuff is being pushed in/out of inv

#

I should prob upgrade that freezer its still on hv lol

hot rune
#

It's weird that only 1 reactor works though

humble hull
#

both work now

#

just emiters didnt work at all

#

I reset everything maybe i didnt have that variable properly selected or it was just buged

#

!rslatch

humble hull
#

dont mind me i need this xD and i dont want it spamed away in other channels

humble hull
green idol
#

anyone know why my reactors wouldnt be turning on?

#

I have 12 reactors so i multiplied my fuel cells and rods by 12

hot rune
#

Did it work with 1 reactor?

green idol
#

never tried 1

#

just went right for 12

#

ix fixed fine?

#

thats default

hot rune
#

Ok, try to check which condition is messed up (just use another emitter to test which condition is wrong)

hot rune
green idol
hot rune
green idol
#

like this?

hot rune
#

yes

green idol
#

so I hooked it to the true, and the emitter has 0 signal

#

on the check rods condition

hot rune
#

Do you use fuzzy detection in condition?

green idol
#

fuzzy in the prceeding input/outputs as well

hot rune
#

And inventories?

Also, is it even triggering?

green idol
#

it must be triggering if I hookup the emitter to false side and lamp turns on yes?

hot rune
#

Yes

green idol
hot rune
#

Probably forgot to add some reactors there

#

Or into the variable

green idol
#

hard to show but i have 12 selected

#

in these black boxes i have 12 reactors selected

hot rune
#

Too hard... Have you filled every reactor with rods and cells?

#

However, it must insert those anyway

green idol
#

every reactor has 14 coolant and 40 quad uranium cells just double checked

#

btw thanks for helping me troubleshoot

hot rune
green idol
#

as in like
reactors not on

#

?

#

requires all is fine?

hot rune
hot rune
green idol
#

side note really quick - how does one actually get the power from these things? can we not transform up?

#

super cons only way?

hot rune
#

Don't get it, wdym

green idol
hot rune
#

oh, you can just use IV cables

green idol
#

for 12 nukes, is 64x vanadium gallium cable large enough?

hot rune
#

Are those LuV?

green idol
#

yes

hot rune
#

Well, those will probably have too many losses since cables can transport 0.25A, 0.5A etc

#

But you can use them, yeah

#

If you already in LuV there are better fuel rods though

green idol
green idol
#

just setting up with uranium to test, dont have better fuel in bulk yet

hot rune
#

Yeah, already can use high density plutonium or something like that

green idol
#

source the 239 from where?

#

bee?

hot rune
#

Tier 3 planet I believe

green idol
#

flow looks fine? this is setup

hot rune
#

Looks fine

green idol
#

emitter off here, from earlier, is bad right?

#

something is wrong with check rods?

hot rune
#

idk, try to remove quad rods from condition and add the same thing

hot rune
#

probably will help

#

Remove rods from here

#

And add them again

green idol
#

remvoed rods, light turned on

hot rune
#

Need to replace it (emitter)

green idol
#

wait

i think i see

this is the good one

There is nothing wrong with them, but I think that plutonium ones are much more useful and use pretty much the same resources

For mox you need 3 * 160 plutonium (and a lot of IC cooling) and return only 40 (and working 10k seconds with 100k eu/t output)

For high density you need 800 plutonium (and 320 HSS-S ingots) and return 640 plutonium with 160 hss-s. (and working 70k seconds with 300k eu/t output)

So I prefer plutonium ones
