Oh, the website I got the icons from is literally in that doc xD

There's a fairly recent video about it as well; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOBnA3449b8

Minecraft Thaumcraft Has STOLEN ASSETS?! AV Team VS COFH Team (Thaumcraft Drama)

So Thaumcraft stole some of its assets, based on what I've seen, and apparently Thaumcraft is also being remade by other teams without permission.....yeah Thaumcraft is in many forms of hot water!

Thaumcraft Document On Re-Used Assets | https://docs.google.com/doc...

#

(and to be fair, that's not stolen as long as it's credited; their icons are intended for game dev/free use)

#

however a lot of the art was not freely offered

weary gust
#

something i'd definitely like this mod to replace is golems
theyre buggy, not performant, and... unfortunately do some cool things that I'd like to keep the functionality of
a block that moves like a computercraft robot, or a block that deploys the golem while its working and otherwise despawns it?
idk, im not sure how something like them could be made really

#

not an easy task even if that was the mod in full 🙃

real whale
#

AV Team is reimplementing everything pretty much as it is in TC, from what I've perused from their discord.
So it's just golems but with better coding (assumption on my part)

#

TLDR: don't steal your art assets. Thankfully this project doesn't have to worry about that because we've got an art team.

placid ledge
#

Anything that uses "smart" mobs will be tricky still and prone to bugs like few other things

real whale
#

Redoing the main magic mod in-house is an opportunity to fix a lot of the jank like golems, I'd hope
preferably with something more performant.

placid ledge
#

Maybe like flying whisps that arent actually mobs. that could work I think

weary gust
#

Lanterns that release floating wisps?

real whale
#

As far as I see it, TC ticks two really big boxes - underlying magic system, and underlying research system.
If those can be pivoted away to an OSS solution, that would go a long way towards claiming its crown.

#

transvector interface is my dear friend, i support this as a way of getting more sides per block and less lag per golem :D

placid ledge
#

By the way. the ideas seem to rnot really be organised at this point in time. Could we do like a markdown/obsidian vault git repo at somepoint?

weary gust
#

golems can do diagonal item management, i like to do terrible compact things with it

#

it would be nice to have a central tracking system like galaxia server has
theyve been able to accomplish a lot just by themselves

real whale
#

not sure who's got control of the google doc, but it'd be up to them which ideas, if any, of these are worth collecting.

weary gust
#

could talk to ruling? if theyre still current lead

real whale
#

given the nature of the project, it's going to need some top-tier dev buy-ins. otherwise, well. it's going to stay a nice idea.

weary gust
#

yeah also needs greenlighting early this time, unlike galaxia
lessons were learned

placid ledge
#

yeah, I could set up a git vault but would like to have approval

real whale
#

I wouldn't start anything like that just yet, given this isn't even an approved project. just a call for interest.

placid ledge
#

i see...

#

but collecting ideas in one place would make it easier for them to review anyway and it wouldnt be intrusive exactly. but I would ask anyway

#

is pinging ok with rules?

real whale
#

yeah, you can ping on this server (as long as it's reasonable, pretty sure at-everyone is a no-go!)

wonder if the allay could be incorporated, or something allay adjacent.

safe phoenix
#

like i like the whole pumps conveyor and what not but eventually it all ae2 networks and that not fun anymore

#

personally i take golems as almost like computer networks and we make a MWAN

#

OR heck even a MLAN

placid ledge
#

I think there is even an AOI for changing GT logistics, so golems in some form could be a nice supplement

#

I really think that making something like modular routers from newer versions but making it look like allays or some other whispe fly around without actually making any game entities would be the most proper way to implement something like this

#

With proper restrictions and trade offs of course because gtnh

sacred grove
#

in place of ae

zinc hound
#

this is technically an in-progress aoi not a pre-approval project

real whale
#

good to know, I stand corrected!

foggy turtle
#

How long till GTNH is just a bunch of first party mods developed for the pack Kek

weary gust
#

consider
if gtnh goes full independant one day, we will get new mods for that game too

The Last Mod To Replace Is Minecraft

Inb4 the cleanroom Minecraft reimplementation in Rust AoI.

weary gust
#

it worked for tfc ==> vintage story

foggy turtle
#

Oh is that actually where VS came from?

weary gust
#

i dont have evidence in hand but i believe it?
idk grain of salt but i think they felt limited hacking minecraft and needed to just rebuild eventually

hollow stone
#

wikipedia says it grew out of vintagecraft

weary gust
#

idk though the gtnh devs keep doing impossible things within minecraft
they might not feel limited as much

weary gust
# hollow stone wikipedia says it grew out of *vintagecraft*

neat! thanks for finding this
skimming the desxription, vintagecraft seems to have some shared textures and maybe even devs from tfc but was going in a different direction... grandchild of tfc then, not kid. like satisfactory <== factorio <== ic2 then?

consider for aesthetics: stained glass and/or hardlight

progressing alongaide the existing mods at first, but now with a new "most basic" sort of magic. Cracking the magic atom and discovering sub-thaumic Minovsky particles or smth lol

taking the aether, concentrating and compressing it until finally tje first solid form (a brittle crystal?)

Translucent endgame gear made of light because Cool

#

depending on the player, they can use this aesthetic different ways. Blood mage with art deco windows? sure. art neuvau with nature just makes sense. Gothic stained glass is so obviously thaumcraft compatible its silly

#

(love the weird flames on the first one here? idk if its supposed to be a sunset or what but its neat here lol)

silver ibex
#

Very excited but also cautious for this. Thaumcraft is compelling (for me at least) due to it's obscurity and to it being largely left alone by devs it retains that obscurity.

I do think it would be very cool to have a base magic mod that all the other disciplines of magic revolved around in the pack - but i'd be worried that any mod designed in the current day would be "solved" from the start.

I also liked how magic could be something a player focused on alongside regular progression, so if i'm playing with someone who dislikes the more technical part of the pack they can do magic and feel like they're contributing.

Good luck!! This is a daunting task but I think ultimately it is good for the pack. :DD

foggy turtle
#

So I wouldn't worry about this being solved either. Just let yourself discover things as you go.

weary gust
#

for me thaumcraft isnt obsucre at all lol, its maybe the mod ive dealt with most
good to have other perspective, and i agree we want to avoid it being another spreadsheets segment of the game

safe phoenix
#

really it when addons get added to base mod

#

ie core mechanics will be picked apart for years

winter ravine

Do we really need to keep research? Can’t we gate things like the rest of GTNH?

weary gust
#

do both, make researches consume items bigbrain

vital kestrel
#

Tbh research is a great mechanic for tc4, engaging for many players and once you get bored of it you just go with the research multi Pepechill

#

I'd argue there are too many researchs tho

weary gust
#

theres a reason base thaum behavior is having a mix of point-buy and manual researches mixed
doing even a vanilla thaum's worth of manual research was never the plan, the minigame overstays its welcome here
In my opinion its a shame bc of its integration with the alchemy system. that and essentia tubes lol chase off what could be interested magitech automators.

mass ordo spam is proof research is failing as a gate, other than by attrition. By mv-to-hv when you're 'supposed' to do magic, there's so much to scan you'll probably never run out of aspects. Progress the normal game as well in parallel (stainless in an EBF helps nicely), and its virtually guaranteed. Patience is extremely not, so mages pick between burning out early, beelining for the automation, or trying to pace themselves over the next (x) hundreds of hours.

research automation should be an upgrade or an option for whatever comes next i think
if theres a lot of researches, at least some should be simple to complete.
they should be worth reading, and with clear descriptions of what the functions a macxhine does- thaumonomicon fails on the essentials like "working area" all the time

winter ravine
#

Current plan is a mix of point-buy for minor stuff (points gathered through a system of research machines), and major stuff requiring some actual experiment (hey, wouldn't it be cool if we overloaded a collector pylon, just to see what happens?)

#

Personal bias: I'm a huge fan of skill/research trees

#

3-path research tree is one of the first ideas I had for the mod

rocky granite
real whale
#

I feel like research would be better if you had more options. Like:

  • pay a bunch of aspects for instant unlock
  • do the research minigame, using less aspects
  • use a multiblock for automated research, consuming (resource and/or aspects)

Perhaps some research should always be pay to unlock (simple and early-game), and some should require you to get the multiblock (endgame)
I wouldn't mind seeing multiple types of research minigames, maybe for different kinds of magic / branches / areas of knowledge. That would also help in that you aren't forced to do the same activity 9,000x over.

What if completed researches came from loot games? Do a sudoku/minesweeper to get researches?

weary gust

everyones favorite part of gtnh, the one where it unsubtly says "if you dont like my tiering play another game then"

this but unironically

Would have to actually add a way to find loot games beyond exploiting journey map cave mode tho

hm. make them play Opus Magnum
or like any zachtronic-esque mini automation game
