Requirements:

  • Glider (preferably, not required)
  • Twilight Forest
  • Torches (unless you have other methods of seeing in darkness)
  • Any building blocks
  • Water Bucket (If you're deaf or not sure)
  • Crucible from Thaumcraft (optional)

First in Twilight Forest find one of these mounds (first image). They are semi-rare to find but easy If you have a glider or other means of fast air transport.
Then go to the top and start digging down but be careful, there are going to be mobs and potentially infernals inside, so make sure to listen to sounds, If you hear them, you are close, so stop digging straight down and instead make a 1x2 hole next to you, then dig down and look If Its safe to jump down.
When you finally break through, place water, then make a platform and make sure skeletons don't hit you. Take the water and start slowly bridging towards the ore you want to mine. In some cases when digging down you will see ore, that means you're in and just dig horizontally till you mine through the ore spike.

The ores that are found in these mounds are:

  • Coal (coal vein is better, no sense for mining it here)
  • Iron
  • Gold (very useful, since gold veins don't have much of them)
  • Lapis (kinda useless, or you're too lazy to make distilled water for coolant I guess)
  • Redstone (also kinda useless, unless you're somehow running low on it)
  • Glowstone (not an ore, but still found there)

Now, this is another tip, there is a faster, less time and power consuming method of getting more ore out of your ore than macerator, Crucible. You want to first research in Alchemy tab Metal Purification, then every other one connected to it and optionally cinnabar purification in Witching Gadgets (you can also do purification perfection, but that's taboo, so on your own risk).
To purify one Iron Ore you need: 1 Silverwood log, 1 Cobblestone, 1 Tin Ingot.
To purify one Gold Ore you need: 1 Cobblestone, 2 Silverwood log, 1 Tin Ingot.
After purification, you can either smelt them to get 4 ingots in total, or in smeltery for 6!

thats a bad, unrewarding and sometimes dangerous way to get just several ores

something like this, in my case, the mound doesnt have many mobs, so I can go without them and they wont notice, I built these walls just now as an example

rancid viper
#

why is your tps like that doom

wintry rivet
rancid viper
#

that makes sense

jaunty wasp
#

can be good to mine some gold after killing hydra for example, but purposefully mining in those hills is definitly slower than vein

nova blade

Yeah magnetite veins aren’t plentiful in gold by any means, but it’s still much faster than this

jaunty wasp
#

Another obscure way to get gold: buying lich spawner eggs and smelting gold armor drop in the smeltery after. can be okay to do in some rare conditions?

rancid viper
#

make a mob farm if you are that desperate

jaunty wasp
#

difficult to make a good mobfarm until like HV, i dont like doing some not perfect one temporarily. But i dont have gold problems either way, so..

If you are in a hill for some reason, loot/exp/peacock fan or something, it can be nice to mine 10 gold ores if you notice them. Purposefully travelling into a different dimension, searching for a hill and mining ores suspended in air with the chance of death and losing an hour retrieving items sounds questionable

#

same gold ore is in a magnetite vein, which you can mine for as long as you want with your hammer

#

also, you said "digging down from top". How are you going to see where the gold is? there are a lot of stalagtites and stuff like coal ore, how will you locate gold if you are not standing at the bottom?

wintry rivet
#

Its easy to find

I don't think those resources are rare, but it's interesting that you can get vanilla ores here

If you really need gold ic2 crops has an easy, no-breed glow stone crop in the biomes o plenty glow flower. Just slap it on a crop stick and you have free glow stone and all the stuff processing that gives you.

In what way? Like I said you can automate this, fulfilling your gold needs until like UV

wintry rivet
mild canopy
#

It’s one MV machine and two LV machines it’s really nothing by the time you’re in MV and can actually process this recipe

Automating glowstone centrifuge is 3 machines

#

Which if you are making power from oil is less than 1 distillery worth

jaunty wasp
#

I agree with not automating glowstone for gold. Waste of energy

analog maple
#

Processing ores in crucible can be ok bit tou get more gold from normal gold processing in chembath

jaunty wasp
#

Gold will come from mobfarm in hv, no need for glowstone processing

analog maple
analog maple
#

I need you to elaborate on that

jaunty wasp
# analog maple Wait mobfarm in Hv

Easiest tier and also pretty much musthave mobfarm at hv. You get enough energy to power solidifiers/extractors to smelt armor, you get infinite gold for electrum needed in HV, wither skulls for quantum eyes/stars/nasa table

analog maple
#

Never did it cuz it wasnt necessary

jaunty wasp
analog maple
#

Would argue if its the best

rancid viper
#

definitely not

analog maple
#

I do not remember the exact numbers from for example EIG

#

As for wother skulls

#

Skullfire sword

jaunty wasp
# analog maple Oh you mean from that

Mobfarm in the nether gives: infinite gold, iron, steel, blaze rods, coal, bones, rotten flesh, slime, wither skulls, anger shards, nether shards, hearts, golden apples, glowstone blocks, diamond blocks, emerald blocks, zombie heads, experience

analog maple
#

Iron is literally free

jaunty wasp
#

All passive, no energy cost

analog maple
#

From everything

#

Coal is not a problem after sifter

#

Which is Hv

jaunty wasp
#

Sure, but its mining

analog maple
#

Mining?

#

Place one miner?

jaunty wasp
#

Sifter?

analog maple
#

Like I mean

jaunty wasp
#

Yeah, passive stuff is better

analog maple
#

One miner on coal

#

With sifter gave us like more than 10k coal?

#

And before I get answer that you use it a lot in dust form

#

No you use carbon which tou get from everywhere

#

Iron stops being a problem at HV

#

You stop using a lot of it

#

The only usefull thing there is gold

#

And blaze rods

jaunty wasp
#

You wont change my mind here either way

analog maple
#

And I don’t care to really
