I am wondering if I should join a group here, but in my experience these things often fail after a couple weeks as people lose interest.
What's your experiences with these kinds of things?

I've found a group of people here that lasted multiple months, although we were all kinda noobie so we got to IV

#

and am currently playing in a group who's gotten to MV, but that's been less fruitful, with multiple people joining and leaving again since the playstyles weren't compatible

look for high tier groups or groups that started by high tier players

#

Also groups that more on casual side usually don't last long. Most common breaking point is IV platline for them. So if you want to complete the pack try to join stargate runs that don't take everyone in or just groups with at least one of the members has at least LuV exp.
Or just start a run and hope everything goes well.

None whatsoever. But I do have plenty of experience with modded. I got into modded minecraft back in the Beta 1.4.6 days and learned computer programming through modding it, though I never released anything.
I play with IRL friends from time to time, but usually I play 10 or 20 times as much as them and run away with the tech tree, which leaves them uninterested, which then makes the game less interesting to me as well.

I am mainly asking because I have no experience playing with others online and I don't wanna start something again only to have people leave at some midway point which usually kills my motivation as well.

Also, in my experience, people usually don't like joining existing worlds because they feel as-if they have nothing to do / contribute.

Usually if you join any non casual run people will have no problem with you speedruning progression because there is plenty of stuff besides tech progression that needs to be done. if you want to try it i can invite you to our UHV world to see what it's like but i'd recommend you just start a fresh world for full exp.

Yeah, I guess I will try to find a group of serious people who actually want to progress to a stargate who are not too far along.

I mean, what I said unfortunately also applies to me. Joining a group like yours, which is already pretty far along, also would be too complex of a thing to get into.

I should probably also watch some more let's plays before starting so that I know what to do / expect.

It's pretty straight forward if you follow questbook for progression but it does not have everything inside so you just have to know what you need or have someone else who did it before.

Also I have been thinking about building a dedicated server before starting.

In the past some of my other modpack playthroughts got really bad performance-wise in lategame beacause the most powerful machine I have access to is from 2014, so at a mid to engame point TPS is usually below 10.

Yeah in GTNH tps and lag can be a run killer

My UEV->UIV run died to lag, had to wait more than a minute just to open AE2

It was our first run past HV so we didn't know how to prevent lag or what caused it

That's why it's good to have late game player on your team

Yea, there is probably tons of little tricks besides lag googles to ease the pain

#

I am part of a club / ngo-group thing (it's a weird form of non commercial legal entity in germany) which rents a rack in a server center in frankfurt for hobby purposes and I wanted to add a machine that is specifically optimized for single core performance for a while now.
But these things take time. We need to find a server to remove first to make some space lol

Haha, nice. The plan is to basically find an established group of veterans and give them the server for free so that they let me in without vetting me first 🙂
I will make sure to let you know when it comes to it 👍

I have to say that I play with people who are really constantly playing with me or alone under them. I am still hosting a Stargate run. At the moment we are 5 player with the target to reach it one day. So My experience about finding people here is really good
