I use bag of tricks from witching gadgets to hold backpacks, and I tend to not put more than 3 filled compressed chests in them total. I’m scared to go past that but haven’t had any problems with the current limit I set.

It also depends on what you put in the nested inventory
3 compressed chests filled with different bees has a lot more nbt than 3 compressed chests full of Redstone
