So I play blues and a little bit of jazz and I wanted to know if I should buy a se silver sky or a 335. I already have a Strat but it’s a £110 not very good one lol. I’m also open to other suggestions I have around £800 to spend

either one of those two option is good

#

or if you want something better have a look at the yamaha revstar standard RSS20

#

it'd be decent, but to be honest you can play either of those genres on any guitar

#

like sister rosetta tharpe played blues on an SG

#

is this an inspired by gibson ES335?

#

additionally i suggest a revstar due to the versatility of it and the build quality, it's probably gonna exceed most guitars at its price point

#

stainless steel frets on a sub-£700 guitar

#

They're very different feeling guitars

#

If you can get your hands on one to try that'd be great. The 335 is pretty chonky

foggy lynx
#

epiphone does make a 339

smaller body

#

339 is more akin to a les paul size

manic radish
#

Also in that price range I think Ibanez has some nice semi hollows

carmine sand
#

Ah well I have some pretry big acoustic guitars and I don’t really think the size is too much of a problem

foggy lynx
#

there's also the 355 which is a more deluxe version

carmine sand
#

So you guys think a semi hollow is the way to go?

foggy lynx
#

if you want one sure

#

id maybe look at the different versions offered by epiphone

manic radish
#

It doesn't need to be semi hollow but that would work well for what you want to play

carmine sand
#

What other Ibanez/epiphone do you think I should check out

foggy lynx
#

the 1959 es 355

#

if you can find a used one

#

it's slightly above £900 new, but if there's any used here then it'll be less than £800 id imagine

manic radish
#

I forgot what model Ibanez I tried... I liked it

foggy lynx
#

yea if i was choosing between the 3 id get a revstar first but i really like them already lol

#

i do really like ES guitars as well

#

there's also the dave grohl trini lopez

carmine sand
#

To be honest I’ve tried the reverse in a guitar shop and it didn’t really sit well with me

foggy lynx
#

that's probably out of budget

carmine sand
#

What’s the difference between the 1959 and the normal 335

foggy lynx
#

it comes with gibson pickups and has a bit more QC on it

#

oh

#

i know another option

#

epiphone casino

#

gibson don't them, it's an epiphone only model

carmine sand
#

Yeah I’ve seen those before aren’t they full hollow?

#

Or am I wrong

foggy lynx
#

yea they are fully hollow but still pretty thin

carmine sand
#

Also do you think I should Defiently not get the Strat?

foggy lynx
#

jazz is a lot better on humbuckers due to the low-gain nature of it

#

noise is bad

#

also the epiphone sheraton

carmine sand
#

Yeah I’ve also been looking at the play II Strat modded with noiseless but I know a lot of people hate noiseless

foggy lynx
#

it depends on which version of noiseless pickups

#

the ones put in US guitars are a lot better, also lindy fralin ones are good

carmine sand
#

What’s Sheraton?

#

Yeah I think the player is Mexican not 100% sure though

manic radish
#

I have no idea what all the differences are but I remembered that an Epiphone Dot exists too

foggy lynx
#

semi-hollow but epiphone only model

#

the headstock on the sheraton is also pretty cool

carmine sand
#

Do the semi hollows with hum buckers sound good with something like a tube screamer? Or is it mostly a clean sound

foggy lynx
#

it also uses minihumbuckers by the look of it

carmine sand
#

You’ll have to forgive me on my knowledge I’ve had the same 2 guitars for 10 years 😂

carmine sand
foggy lynx
#

the guitar doesn't really influence the sound much, semi-hollows do sound a little different to solid bodies

#

they're just smaller humbuckers that sound a bit more like P90s

carmine sand
foggy lynx
#

yea that'd be good

#

i completely forgot about the 345

#

i prefer the sheraton a bit in looks personally

carmine sand
#

Is the 345 around the same size as the 339 or 335

carmine sand
foggy lynx
#

335

carmine sand
#

Would you recomend the 335 or 345 more

foggy lynx
#

probably the 345 due to the extra features

#

the varitone selector is cool, never used them and hardly seem them

carmine sand
#

Is that on all 345 or just that one

foggy lynx
#

it appears to be a 345 standard thing

#

on the flipside it's definitely a gimmick, but you'd have to play around to see how much use you get out of it

carmine sand
#

Is that the only difference with the 335

foggy lynx
#

yea seems to be

#

a few visual differences

carmine sand
#

Is there a difference between the 335 and 335 figured they’re around £100 more

foggy lynx
#

it's just the figured top

#

that's the only difference

carmine sand
#

So you think I should get an es rather then the silver sky?

foggy lynx
#

yea if that's the guitar you want, in the end it's entirely your choice

#

we can only give information on guitars ultimately lol

carmine sand
#

lol yeah I think I’m gonna either get the 335-339 or 345

#

And like I said I already have a Strat even though it’s not the best it’s still a. Strat lol

manic radish
#

Nothing wrong with a strat and the silver sky is really nice. I think humbuckers suit you better because they sound warmer. Whether or not it should be semi hollow is really personal preference
