#How can i make this riff sound better?
160 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
just work on your playing in general ... your pinch harmonics seem to get muted somehow, looks more life you're doing a natural harmonic
and for metal you really have to dig into the strings to get that aggressive sound
Any tips? Should i just play harsher?
And for pinch harmonics, i never can make it sound good, and they doesn't even come if i don't put my amp and guitar output settings to max, so i thought it was smth with gear and tone.
pinch harmonics is pure technique ... how do you do it ?
Just adjust my thumb to touch the string right after picking
tip is just practice, especially on timing, guitar is more than playing a series of notes, microtiming can make it feel more alive or completely static
but what do you do with your fretting hand? it doesn't seem to fret the note
Idk, i just press the note, it always comes rightly when i play something simple, idk
it's a very hard technique that even some super experienced players not always hit consistently ..even Dean Lamb from Archspire says he sometimes misses them completely
Thank you, i will just practice more
and maybe not put the bar too high ... cemetery gates is not really an easy song to master, it has a lot more nuances that are not beginner level
Yeah i just learned this specific riff cuz i wanted to learn something with pinch harmonics
when I started out I also wanted to play those kinds of songs and it actually held me back because it frustrated me
Was trying revolution is my name but had the same problem
Yeah
then I started over ... simply starting with cowboy chord songs to learn the basics ... then going back to rock/punk/metal stuff
mostly greenday shit because it was reasonably easy but also semi fast and good for endurance and building downpicking chops
I learned some metallica and black sabbath riffs, and some of that overplayed solos from famous bands and just thought i was ready to play pantera
and if you really want to learn pinch harmonics ... just learn to nail them every single time ... put them everywhere like Adam D from Killswitch does
amel stop sliding
yeah just do them hundreds of times
turn your middle down and more gain
and then so
a pinch harmonic works
by isolating overtones
like every other harmonic
so essentialyl
what you want to do
if your guitar has 24 frets
either do that
or lightly do a natural harmonic until you find the one that goes up 2 octaves
and then what you want to do
is hold your pick
so your thumb is covering almost all the pick
except a little snippet
so you can alternate pick and such
while the other side
is mostly uncovered so you can really dig in when you need to
and then
you just slightly rotate it
while you hit that 2 octave harmonic position
with an open string
thats important
then it will ring out 2 octaves higher
now you can cut this in half and it will be either 3 or 4 octaves i forgot honestly
now
the trick is
every position on the fretboard
you want to place the pinch harmonic
so its a clean ratio
1/2 1/4 1/8 etc
where
so it will make the harmonic
pinch harmonics are extremely easy its just a matter of positioning and muscle memory
I always put my gain at max, probably i need to buy new gear
does your guitar have bass mid treble
crank everything except mid keep it below like 4
I took a print of all the messages, thank you for the advices
youre welcome
id reccomend getting something like a line 6 spider or a boss katana if you just want a amp
or
if you want pedals
which is honestly mroe versatile
I don't understand much about gear, but my guitar only have 2 knobs and a lever of 5 positions
All my gear are extremely cheap bc where i live everything is expensive af, so I'm gonna send a pic of my amp just for you to see
Yeah the angle is not very good
Wait
flip that super drive
set middle to 0
turn bass to like 6 or 7
treble all the way up
gain all the way up
volume to taste
Looked for metal zone a few days ago, that's like about the price of a minimum wage here
And i don't have much money to spend
One of these common orange drive pedals is about ⅓ of a minimum wage
For the amps, it is 2 wages each, but i paid ⅓ for this one i have
pedals arent more versatile until youre thousands into them
Meh
Can use them with any amp
youll get instant banned here for saying that
And the physical controls are useful
katana has controls for pedals and multiple amp models
its not meh
its correct
uh no
controllers take 5 min to set them all up
Can’t stomp on an amp
you also learn how to use digital pedals properly
controllers fully make ur point irrelevant
youll spend thousands before you can breach the boss katana versatility
fact
Costs about as much as the amp to get it fully set up
Not really
???
hes right
get one pedal of each of the katanas digital pedals it offers
you cant for less than 2 katanas
maybe 100 dollars
wrong
The effects suck
also wrong
do you know what sneaky amps are
and the tube screamer is great
the eqs all work like eqs
reverbs are good
delay is delay
bro u glazing the boss katana so hard 😭
this is a known thing
im really not
its just the truth
anyone sensible here will say the same thing
its true
Actually only a notebook, but i'm going to buy a pc eventually, for the interface, could the cuvave cube baby work? Saw lots of people talking about this one but it's very cheap, idk if it's good
even a lot of the mods say that and that its way better for budget because to get the equivalent pedals youll spend a lot more
we can test my theory if youd like?
I can get a better tone from a 50 dollar beat up peavy tube amp and 20-30 dollar pedals
Why y'all discussing here rn
you can get nirvana tone from a microwave
lol

Anyway, what do y'all recommend me to do? I think the cheapest way is to use a cube baby and a pc, but idk much about gear in general
