"New users will be more likely to uncritically accept perspectives or advice from those with the role, even if they happen to be wrong, because the beginner can't tell that, all they can see is a shiny expert tag" i do not disagree, but i think a common mis-step is, this is more of an open community than what i think #music-theory🎵 can be or is sometimes expected to be, which feels more like "free lessons" or classes where the teachers need to be identified more clearly.
#Guru Role Re-name Suggestion

this is how i was explaining it that i think makes the most sense
"Those with the role might be unconsciously inclined towards developing an outsized view of the scope (and limitations) of their own knowledge base as they settle into a socially reinforced view of their own expertise" i do not disagree, but i think that will happen regardless
"Those without the role but who aspire to it are more likely to engage in dumb semantic and/or pretentious arguments that help no one in order to prove their 'worthiness' of the role." i dont disagree with this, either, but those arguments were present before those roles. if anything, i do think the roles helped
i will say, i agree with the term 'guru' here maybe being the issue
" renaming it to 'Theory Enthusiast' (same for the technique one) rather than Guru" i like this proposal
Prob sum like “Teachers” or “professional” something like that yk its not complicated everyone knows whats a teacher or professional “Guitar Sage” could work too
right. but its not indicating that
thats the issue
its given for participation
we dont have theory teachers. and we dont have anyone recieving money for teaching there to be professionals. i think "sage" would be equality implicit as "guru"
Is teacher complicated for you?
Ig just put what it means in the rules
i cannot do that, but yes, the suggestion is noted
thats the (potential alleged) problem. the role is not to delineate "teachers".. its not a "guru" in function. its a participant.
RN, the guru role is given for participation, not theory or technique expertise or understanding. and i think thats what is being asked. since* the name 'guru' implies there is a level of expertise or understanding, that something more like "enthusiast" be used.
Yea thats true teachers are more like payed experts and guitar sage sounds good but may be complicated as the guru role but Hey its up to u or lax ig
thankfully, its not up to me. but i do agree that the term can be problematically ambiguous.
I'm changing to enthusiast and adding a sentence to rules. But users can't complain about how "enthusiasts" answer since it's for free and those people are chosen after helping right several times
