#I’m a beginner what electric guitar set should I buy?

So I’m tight on budget and there’s no guitar store where I could try a cheap guitar. I mainly listen to rock songs but it would be cool if I could play different genres besides rock. I don’t really know how amps works (yet) but I know I need one and a cable and strings for the guitar (I think my picks is okay).

What guitar should I buy as a beginner that’s cheap, comfortable to play, and won’t fall apart the moment I touch it? I heard that you can’t go wrong with the Yamaha Pacifica 012 is that true?

What amp should I get? People say the Fender Mustang LT25 is a good choice. Is there a cheaper and smaller option? Also, what amps can I use with my DT770 80-ohm headphones?

A 4 dollar cable is okay or will I start picking up the radio? A 2m cable is more than enough for me that is working correctly.

What strings should I buy and how much? And how do I put them on without messing it up?

Thank you in advance! :DD

calm lagoon
#

I’d say go w the Pacifica and the lt25

#

U can use ur headphones with the lt25

#

That will cover all ur playing basses except modern metal

wicked hound
#

This one is 87$ but it needs upgrades to it if u find someone to help
U I recommend u to get strings and new tremolo system and fret board cleaning

calm lagoon
#

Do not get that

wicked hound
#

Well

#

If ur into metal I recommend

#

Also I
Don’t recommend getting any silvertone gutairs

#

They usually

#

Are butt cheeks

white flax
#

Instead of an lt25 I would get something like the Nux mightyplug... It's designed for headphones but works with an external speaker as well and doubles as an interface

#

You don't even need an instrument cable since it plugs directly into your guitar

white flax
#

It's not that bad actually

turbid quartz
#

And what type of strings should I get? And how many?

calm lagoon
turbid quartz
#

I mean really cheap non branded strings not the best right?

calm lagoon
#

I personally use PRS classic strings but u can’t go wrong with any of these brands u just gota make sure they are electric strings and in the right gauge
Earnie ball
PRS
Fender
Daddario
Elixir
Rotosound
Gibson
Or afew others

#

U would probably be best off with one of these gauges
10-46
9-42
9-46 (hybrid pack of the above 2)
9.5-44

#

U would probably be fine with 1-2packs or even buy 1 pack of different gages and find what u like

turbid quartz
calm lagoon
#

A thinner gauge will be easier to press and bend on but u can abuse a thicker gauge abit more they also sound abit beefier

#

If u were to downtune a lot u would want a thicker gauge of string so it vibrates correctly to get the desired tuning

#

Given u said u like rock u probably won’t go below d standard or drop c which any of the above packs would work fine for but any of the ones ending in 46 would work better for

#

The hybrid packs are nice bc u get the low end beefiness of the thicker pack on the 3 low strings but the easier bends of the thinner pack on the high 3 strings

turbid quartz
#

I have one more question which may sound (stupid) very very beginner

#

But why we use an amp besides the volume and bonus effects? Or why the electric guitar has a volume and tone button if we can change it on the amp? Or how is this work?

calm lagoon
#

So the amps volume adjust the loudness of the actual amp

turbid quartz
#

I’ve only played electric guitar without the power lmao

calm lagoon
#

On a guitar that volume adjusts the amount of signal allowed to flow out of the guitar to the amp

#

The amps tone knobs adjust the eq allowing u to get different sounds out of the amp

#

The guitars tone knobs cut or limit certain signals from the pickups being allowed out of the guitar to the amp

turbid quartz
#

Oh I see now wow

calm lagoon
#

So like let’s say u needed it to be quiet while plugged in u could turn the volume off on ur guitar instead of having to walk over to the amp and turn it down there

#

But also on certain amps Liek tube amps if ur guitar voume is up it pushes the amp harder allowing for natural breakup / distortion where if u turned down ur guitars volume slightly it becomes cleaner while still being a similar volume bc volume is set mostly by the amp

turbid quartz
#

I understand now it’s interesting

#

Thanks for your replies guys. I’ve learned a lot @calm lagoon thank you 🙏

Yo @turbid quartz Imma Beginner too, I did a lot of research and I mean alot of research for like a whole month continuously, the Guitar I’ve heard a lot of Good things is Yamaha Pacifica 012 or higher, and the Cort G250 SE(recommend by @white flax ) little expensive , and also get a Good AMP, bcz I heard a lot of my friends say that even if you have a 1000$+ guitar amd buy a not good AMP, it does not sound good, so go for the Boss Katana Mini or a used Boss Katana 50 MKII, trust me even Im goin with it too, totally worth it 😁

calm lagoon
#

Go for a mini as the bare minimum u would be better off with a headphone amp or the fender lt 25

calm lagoon
#

I personally have a HB SC-450 so if u want any more info on that I can’t give u some it’s their Les Paul shape

knotty acorn
#

Yamaha pac 112V or Cort g250se with fender lt25, or get an amp sim on ur pc

#

If u dont have pc, use some sort of plug

#

Like the nux mightyplug

#

If u want a small amp

#

Try maybe a boss katana mini

#

Best budget string brand in my opinion is Daddario

#

You cant go wrong with D addario EXL120

Ibanez's wiring was definitely rough back in the 90s, never saw it not work, but wouldn't be surprised looking what a bang up job they often did

fortunately those stock pickups were awful so everyone just gutted and rewired them anyyay

#

but that's not the goal here

umbral fog

i assume its less likely to do with the guitar companies themselves, altho yes its their responsibility, and more with whoever supplied the parts

idk if companies as big as ibanez really test every single guitar they get in, thats a lot of product

My dad got me a Shechter diamond series elite c6…sounds absolutely amazing after using it for 4 years, I recommend that model to anyone, most of them are under 500 (unless you get a guy thinking it’s worth 1000+) but those are good choices in the hardware, sound and feel

You can find a used Epiphone Les Paul for stupid cheap. That’s what I did and I put something like 1,000 hours on that little thing, held up fine. I don’t know much about amps though, which you might want to look into.

Second hand market is the goat

I bought a used 2004 Epiphone LP sunburst for 600£, with gibson burstbucker pro gold pickups. Great guitar.

cobalt spire

I would too stay away from harley benton. Take a look at squiers or yamaha, they have some stratocaster models.

Tho harley benton are still guitars. If you dont want to spend alot, they're a very cheap option, but you usually get what you pay for.

The only problem I see is that for some people (me) it costs the same as a Yamaha Pacifica and when it comes to Pacificas, they're really mainstream. Which allows easy modding capabilities and more

The specs on the g250se are insane tho

Tho in all honesty, if you're willing to spend around 100usd more, you can get the Decked out fusion 3

umbral fog

for future reference

#

there are no "good or bad" strings for certain guitars

string brand and gauge is largely just up to what the person prefers playing

10-46 and 9-42 gauges just happen to be the most common gauges for everyone

turbid quartz
umbral fog

not just "good for that guitar"

if you plan to change strings soon, then you should buy a basic string winder and cutter if you already dont have those

not necessarily better

calm lagoon

If u can an angled cable is abit more convenient but not necessary

An angled cable is like this where 1 side is strait and the other at a 90°

Once again not required and what u have will work perfectly fine

white flax

Just buy a cable from cordial...sssnake cables are not that good

turbid quartz

This maybe a dumb question but I want to make things sure. If I connect my amp (fender mustang lt25) to the connector (230V runs in it) and then I connect the guitar and then the headphone (80 ohm) directly into the amp, it will work well right? Do I need an audio interface for my headphones in order to run smoothly?

The 112V is an upgraded 112J so I guess that one?

turbid quartz
#

Oh man idk which one to choose 112v or the 311h

#

311H is it worth the extra money?

hardy rock

The 311H is a bit different, it has a P90 pickup instead of the single coils and it has no tremolo bar (which you probably won't miss anyway). I have one and it's great. Locking tuners are really nice too.

I bought mine used a while ago though, it was much cheaper then

turbid quartz
#

What’s the difference between the P90 pickups and the single coils?

hardy rock
#

It's also a type of single coil but it sounds a bit "stronger", idk how to explain it.

turbid quartz

Some people said the frets are not so smooth and if you bend the B string it does a weird sound is that true? Or what is your experience?

but that amp is 100 percent the reason your tone sucks, when you upgrade thats the first thing that needs to go

it does what it needs to for a beginner

I’m thinking of going with something like a amp modeler but diffrent conversation

pseudo lynx
#

hell yeah, floor unit?

Hey again! So as I said I’m a beginner. Where should I start learning to play electric guitar and how do I progress? Guitar teachers are really expensive so looks like I have to choose the “self taught” path, but I don’t know where to start and how should I practice in order to progress.

calm lagoon

At the beginning practice can be learning and playing a song but as u progress u add improv and other things to ur practice

#

Start simple and find the path of what interests you

@river viper if I remember correctly you have a fender mustang

How did you use it with headphones?

It works now thanks

But why there’s a volume and a master knob?

#

Why not just a volume?

hardy rock

I think master is the volume for everything and volume is only for the preamp. There's some difference but nothing to worry about
