either put some thick strings on your guitar and drop it to drop G or so ... or get something like a droptune plugin

#

i mean like, i cant play at all

delicate token
#

but maybe start with something simple

low tide
#

I’ve tried everything from books to YouTube to online courses and lessons

#

Nothing sticks even after I spend months practicing

#

Then I just put down the guitar for a good while and it just cycles

#

I’ve spent more on learning material then I have my actual guitar

#

what doesn't stick ? the physical part like strumming, picking, chord shapes ?

#

or the rhythm part ?

#

can you play a simple song using only powerchords for instance ? like a greenday song ?

#

or play a simple scale ?

# low tide Nothing sticks even after I spend months practicing

nothing will "stick" for your goal, here. you can set your goals. if its, put your fingers where someone else did while they were playing these guitar parts, you can hire someone to make tab for you and invest money in getting the same gear. you can learn to do what i just did, where, im playing these harmonies and melodies on my guitar, RN, in standard tuning.

#

you are trying to skip over learning to play guitar and play guitar parts that people with more experience played

#

that wont work well for you, likely

#

its fine to have the goal to pretend to play guitar in that band. you can crank the original track and turn your guitar down and pretend to play along

#

otherwise, separate out your goals and learn to play guitar. we have #playing-techniques💪 with lots of helpful pins there.

stay by post malone, smoke on water, come as you are, and fukashigi no carte

#

besides the fact that it's in drop A#

#

maybe first start with some more rock/punk songs that don't require very low tunings but do incorporate the same elements, like fast downpicking, palmmuting

#

I started out with things like Basketcase from Greenday for instance

#

I am actually more curious how things don't stick or what is the main difficulty in learning the guitar for you @low tide

2-3 hours a day

delicate token
#

seems a bit excessive

#

i think if you would just practice like an hour a day but for a prolonged time ... even if it's just learning one song ... you'd progress more

ok

#

ive done that, i cant move my hands or do aything no matter what im doing, even if its scales

#

only thing i can do is chords

slim thorn
#

You can't move your hands?

#

Yes you can. You can learn to do all of this.

#

You don't have to. But you certainly can.

#

It's just a guitar. Lots of people learn to play the guitar. If the only thing you can do is chords, and you're having a fun hobby and that's fun? That's all that matters

#

If you want to play a single line scale, you can do that!

#

You don't have to. You have to decide what your goals are, and I promise you, you can do more than just play chords.

#

You also don't have to. But I believe in you.

# low tide only thing i can do is chords

then play (power)chords ... start learning some Greenday ... or Learn the doom song in any drop tuning ... its mostly open strings and some single notes so it really is not that hard

#

you don't have any physical disabilities ?

low tide
#

not really, i dont tense unless im doing one note on loop

low tide
delicate token
#

then I have no idea how to help ... I know about anybody can learn the guitar to some degree ... with consistent practice

#

i feel the on-off strategy usually doesn't really work

low tide
#

idk

#

im trying rocksmith rn but im not any good

#

i only get 50/60% accuracy

delicate token
#

start slower ... work your way up

#

it;s about building muscle memory ... just like with gaming

low tide
#

i mean i guess, but playing e sportsd titles has wayy less techniqaclity then guitar

#

and even then i suck at those too

low tide
#

Idk man

#

After 4 years you kinda just give up

delicate token
#

then give up

#

or start changing the way you approach it

#

set one realistic goal for a period of a month

#

work towards that , consistently
