I used AI to make a song progression sheet, but AI can be unreliable, so I'm asking the pro guitarists in their opinion, how they would rank the songs from least to most difficult so I can progress more steadily.

Highway to hell should be in level 2 imho

#

Beat it is also fairly simple

Not sure if I'd put Stayin Alive in level 1, actually. Unless you really like the song, but I'd probably substitute it for 7 Nation Army instead. Very easy and very nice groove.

I'd say it's somewhere between levels 2 and 3, so you can add it as a bonus.
Very nice, easy song and you'll learn fingerpicking for the intro and melodic phrasing for the main theme, power chords for the chorus, and a bit of technical wizardry for the pre-solo.

Would definitely recommend adding that song to the list somewhere.

I would definitely also add some songs from Greenday's Dookie album, because they are just fun and will teach you good palm muting and downpicking. Maybe add American Pie for some nice strumming and medium pace chord changes

#

but in general I would not really measure your progress in guitar playing on the ability to play a certain song

#

with enough practice you can teach a monkey how to play master of puppets but it won't be able to play anything else

I think you both have a good point.
There is something to be said for learning new skills in the context of a song you like. There's a real sense of accomplishment once you can play it along with the record (<--yes, I'm that old).
Having those skills under your belt will also make it easier to learn other songs you like, and ultimately make your own music once you have internalized the skills necessary to make your guitar sing with your own musical ideas and creativity.

The fact that you had to defer to the opinions of live humans despite trusting in the authority of AI shows how useless AI truly is, in this capacity. The truth is that difficulty is subjective and there is no real way to rate it. Someone who can play a flamenco like Paco De Lucia might find it incredibly difficult to play in the style of Zack Wylde from Black Label Society, and vice-versa. Too many variables, not quantifiable. The best thing you could do is compile a list of songs you want to learn and do a poll on here.

@remote lotus find songs you are passionate about, it will drive you more

So I told it to replace and re rank

#

But then someone told me the ranking doesn't look right

#

But i must say, the jump from smoke on the water and Alabama is quite substantial

#

In difficulty for me

nothing wrong with learning songs but it's basically paint by numbers on guitar

learning theory means nothing to pre written songs

" pro guitarists in their opinion, how they would rank the songs from least to most difficult so I can progress more steadily." music doesnt work this way. any music or song can be played with more or less relative complexity. what you are ranking here is guitar parts played on performances or recordings of songs. which is fine. and this ranking really wont likely be constructive. if someone wants to learn a song, they can. tying one's shoes was once relatively challenging.
