I recently bought my first amp sim to sound like Mick Thomson but whenever I play something it just sounds shit for some reason,

#Omega granophyre tone not feeling right

It is awesome to see that each Neural DSP plugin comes with artist tones and in the OMEGA Ampworks Granophyre, we get Mick Thomson and Alessandro 'VMAN' Venturella signature presets.
When I saw these presets and started using them I decided to have them verse each other since both artists are in the same band, Slipknot.
So this is Mick Thomson...
how can i make it sound more like this?
are you using a very light string guage in a low tuning ?
or super old strings ?
also know that most youtube demo songs have quite a lot of post production on them
no im using a baritone
i tuned it down to drop a
then you need to play more tight ... it sounds flubby
It will also never sound thiccc if you don't doubletrack
as in hitting the string harder?
and whenever i play theres always some string overpowering another one in sound
for example i did a power chord here and my e string was just louder
how did you dial it in ?
i cannot run the trial anymore so I cannot try how it sounds on my end
dial is means : 'set up the tone'
alas I cannot run the trial anymore
i do have the next best thing, the Sigma, which is modelled after the Granophyre too
default settings, no processing
this is the real granophyre on default
i used the mick thomson preset like the guy in the video
same settings
sounds a lot different on this end
its not about the settings but the quality of the sound
Play tighter, make sure your guitar is in tune, make sure you're not clipping your interface input
And double track everything
Then post process the guitar tracks
if your input gain is set to high it causes clipping which will sound bad
there's usually a light on your interface turning red
ah okay
what do i do with the knob then?
if i set it too low then theres no distortion
set it as high as possible so it doesn't clip when you chug brutally hard ... then you're good
on your INTERFACE... not your plugin
so first dial it up so you actually start clipping ... then turn it down
There seems to be no clipping issue - however it coud probabloy setuped better anyway.
Main issue I hear in first audio is the playing technique and the setup of the guitar. You use to low string gauges and/or strange mismatch with probably considerably low action.
- Setup Guitar correctly
- Learn the riff you want to do correctly
- Double track the guitar left/right (only possible if u play perfectly) ElSchaap did an good example but it was still kinda messy here and there.
- Ur guitar pickups / cable / setup , will be different and have big impact in sound, so the preset will not sound the same for you anyway - you need to change a bit to fit it to your equipment. Just getting an amp sim will not fix tonal issues.
Point 1+2 is the most important here though. +3 if you compare it to the video.
- post processing : almost no video you will see on youtube doesn't have any processing done after the fact
