I’m looking for an amp that would be good playing gigs or getting a solid versatile sound, it doesn’t need a ton of effects because I’d like to get some pedals alongside it, namely used:
BOSS BF-3 Flanger
BOSS CH-1 Super Chorus
BOSS CS-3 Compression Sustainer
BOSS DS-1 Distortion
BOSS GE-7 Equalizer
BOSS BD-2 Blues Driver
MXR M101 Phaser 90

But that list is a work in progress.

Fender champion 100

gray sky
azure steeple
azure steeple
#

The katana 100 is a modeling amp

azure steeple
#

212

gray sky
#

Oh Shit fr?

azure steeple
#

Yea

gray sky
azure steeple
#

This is out of the champion 100

azure steeple
#

Like the champion has different voicings and fx still but it is analog

#

Like the katana would be like an amp in ur computer where as the champion is like a normal ss amp

gray sky
azure steeple
#

The champion still gets fx

gray sky
#

I just need something that might work for gigs and can work with like 5-6 pedals

azure steeple
#

The champion 100 is good for that especially if u get the v2

#

It has abonch of different tones and has an fx loop

#

And some built in fx

#
#

I am currently writing w my band we have 2 Marshall half stacks a drums and the champion 100 is keeping up

#

W also r using a 600w bass amp

#

Idk how the katana 100 would keep up being only 1 speaker but if u spend 550 on the katana 100 212 it would definitely keep up

#

This is a demo of it

gray sky
#

Would it work well with a les paul studio

azure steeple
#

Yea

azure steeple
# azure steeple

This is a HSH strat but it works well w a 335 and Les Paul standard so

gray sky
#

Would it be worth my time to get that amp instead of a katana and get delay/reverb pedals instead?

azure steeple
#

It has delay and reverb built in

#

It’s just analog instead of digital

gray sky
#

Also is it worth buying amps used

azure steeple
#

Yea definitely

rustic thicket
gray sky
#

would i be safe to buy solid states used then? i saw a vox ac15 for like $300 in good condition

azure steeple
#

Used ss amps guitars and pedals are good ideas

rustic thicket
#

it's kinda weird putting 1K in pedals in front of a 400 dollar amp though

#

might as well put a multifx in front

#

not a grand ... but at least more than the amp

azure steeple
gray sky
gray sky
#

im trying to get something i can take to college and use in gigs potentially

rustic thicket
azure steeple
#

Well most ss amps have a headphone port so they can be used in college dorms w/o getting a noise complaint

#

But like a tube amp doesn’t

rustic thicket
#

but then something small and compact like a modeller would make more sense ... you can always add a FRFR speaker for gigging

azure steeple
#

Either get the katana 100 212 or the champion 100 and u should be good for both

#

Idk if a 112 setup could keep up w aband but Ik a 212 can

#

Both have headphone ports and fx

gray sky
azure steeple
#

The champion 100 is a 212 setup

#

The katana 100 come in both 112 and 212 but the 212 is 550 new where as the 112 is like 400 new

#

I shoulda asked this earlier but do u plan on playing like modern metal

#

Bc like the champion can do metal but it can’t really do like gojira type metal and like that type of stuff

#

Given the fx pedals u listed it doesn’t seem so tho and it seems like a good choice

azure steeple
gray sky
azure steeple
#

If u want the physical pedals it isn’t worth a modeling amp but the champion also has fx built in so u can’t use those fx while u buy pedals it also makes a great pedal platform

azure steeple
# gray sky i want physical boss pedals mostly

The katana has boss pedals built in the champion has fx built in they aren’t boss specifically but that a good fx and the amp ss a whole is a good pedal platform no matter what pedals u use

#

Boss does sell a foot switch if u can use if u just want to use them w ur feet but it is an extra 165$ if u get one new

gray sky
azure steeple
#

If u are set on the physical I would go w the champion

gray sky
azure steeple
#

Yea

#

Like ur pedal boar layout will change over time but u can use any pedals on any amp

#

And u can keep and mix and match them as u please

gray sky
azure steeple
#

There are some things where it is worth not getting a boss pedal bc they add up quickly like a behringer eq is just as good as the boss one but a boss bd2 is better than the behringer bo100

#

So look outside of just boss for pedals

gray sky
azure steeple
#

But yea if u get a champion and mix and match ur pedals and look used u should be good w that budget

azure steeple
#

Like some things just aren’t worth the extra but some things are

gray sky
azure steeple
#

Waza craft boss pedals are good but those really add up

gray sky
#

lemme send you the list im at rn

azure steeple
#

U can get a donner 10 band eq for like 50 new and it has more adjustments and is still a really nice pedal and it is cheaper than a used boss one

#

Like if u want to spend the extra and get a boss one u do u but some things like eq just aren’t worth it and u could put that money towards a different pedal

gray sky
#

lemme send you what i just have on the list so far

#

Primary Targets:
BOSS BF-3 Flanger
BOSS CH-1 Super Chorus
BOSS CS-3 Compression Sustainer
BOSS DS-1 Distortion
BOSS GE-7 Equalizer
BOSS BD-2 Blues Driver

Consider:
BOSS NS-1X Noise Suppressor
BOSS DD-3 Digital Delay
BOSS RV-5 Reverb
BOSS FZ-5 Fuzz
BOSS TR-2 Tremolo
MXR M101 Phaser 90

#

but ngl i was thinking about replacing the compression with the delay and reverb

azure steeple
#

I would look at a different noise gate

#

Like donner hss one for 40 that works great

#

Idk if u play in different tunings like other standard tunings but if u do the digitech drop is a great pedal to have but can be pricy

gray sky
#

nah i dont need a digitech drop

#

The ones I need fs in my opinion are the flanger, super chorus, distortion, blues driver, delay

#

which used i could get fairly cheap

azure steeple
#

Look at other distortions to u might find one that fits ur style better like maybe that is the boss ds1 but maybe it isn’t that is one that can vary so much depending on taste

gray sky
#

fair, though I dont know if I need like an insane distortion rn

#

Maybe something to his that Megadeth and Metallica tone but thats about it

#

or Van Halen

azure steeple
#

I have one the replicates a jcm 80 but also does the Marshall plexi sound it does both great and is cheaper than a ds 1

#

That fit my taste better given I was looking for that classic jcm sound from ride the lightning

gray sky
#

whats the pedal?

azure steeple
#

NuX Plexi Cruch

#

U could also look at the Joyo uzi

gray sky
#

im definitely in need of the plexi/80 sound if im gonna have a smaller fender amp

#

for van halen, metallica, and really any solid metal/rock sound

azure steeple
#

The champion does have some Marshall esque sounds built in

gray sky
#

but that pedal you said does wonders?

azure steeple
#

They aren’t as good as the plexi crunch but they are decent

#

Yea I can demo it for u in a vc if u want or something

gray sky
#

so should I maybe start out with the boss pedals i want and search for cheaper alternatives for a few? like i probs dont need a boss compressor lol

#

compression is compression rigt

azure steeple
#

Yea exactly like a bd2 u wont exactly find better elsewhere but some pedals u might like distortions and compressors and that type of thing

gray sky
#

i wanna go boss for the flanger, chorus, delay, blues driver and eq

#

those are like, the ones you want boss for imo

azure steeple
#

Also the super chorus is based off of the Rolland jc 120 which if u like that sound is great

gray sky
#

i would sell my kidneys for a Roland JC120 Chorus

azure steeple
#

The eq u can find alternatives for the others I agree with

gray sky
#

true but i have heard its supposed to be one of the best

#

is amplitube a good way of testing some of the pedals?

azure steeple
#

Yea Rolland and boss are the same company so they put it in a pedal and that is the super chorus

#

Idk I don’t do any of the digital stuff like amplitude the best way to try them would be in a physical store or maybe through Yt vids but in store is definitely way better

gray sky
#

ofc but i live 2.5 hours away from the nearest guitar store lol

azure steeple
#

Like ik in a lot of the digital stuff they are generic but based off of stuff like for an amp u might get a British 800 or something instead of a jcm

gray sky
azure steeple
#

Pretty much everything digital is based off something real and some are even on brand

#

But they might also vary slightly

gray sky
#

fair but tbf so do real pedals

#

no two boss ds1s sound exactly the same im sure

#

do you know any good reverb, compression, noise gate, fuzz, tremolo pedals?

azure steeple
#

Donner makes a good noise gate for 40

#

Big muff is a good fuzz pedal but fuzz is like distortion it varies by taste

#

There are abonch of different big muffs tho

gray sky
azure steeple
#

Yea it’s only 40 new

gray sky
#

im tryna go used for everything so i can maximize what i end up getting

#

since my budget is like $1050 and the amp will be a least $400

azure steeple
#

I like the tc sky surfer as a reverb but there are also different types of reverbs and that can affect what pedal u get

#

I don’t use a reverb pedal bc I have that built into my amp which the fender champion also does so that one can be avoided for now if u get that amp

azure steeple
#

Honestly maybe get a 2nd eq if u want

#

I want to I just don’t have the money rn bc I’m about to get another guitar

#

If u are going to do pedals a board is also nice to have so keep that in mind

#

U don’t have to buy one u can build one urself but it is nice to have

gray sky
#

Do you think my choice of what I want to get in Boss is fine

azure steeple
#

Yea but personally I would get a different eq

#

I also like 10 band more than 7 band

#

Also something like a wah might be good to have

#

For that if u want one lol at cry baby or maybe vox

gray sky
azure steeple
#

Also a tuner pedal might be nice to have it can also act as a mute if u need one

gray sky
azure steeple
gray sky
#

should I get the champion 100 used?

azure steeple
gray sky
azure steeple
# gray sky should I get the champion 100 used?

If u want there is a champion 100 and a champion 2 100 the champion 2 line dropped afew months ago so just look at what u are getting look at the differences and decide if that’s what u want

#

All my experience is w the champion 100 the origional one

#

Both are good tho

#

One of the original champions is like 200$ used

#

Also it has a vox esque setting if u like those tones

gray sky
#

this says a new fender champion II 100 with footpedal is 400

azure steeple
#

Yea that is a new one

#

The champion 2

#

If u get a used original champion it is like 200

#

Idk prices if there are any for a used champion 2

#

The og champion also has a foot pedal

#
#

That’s the original champions 100

gray sky
#

would something like this be a great deal

azure steeple
#

Idk I haven’t seen any of the champion 2s in the used market idk what they would go for on average

#

Idk if this will persuade u towards the 2 or the one but the voicings are slightly different

#

This is champion 2 voicings

gray sky
#

cause then id have the ability to get like $750 worth of pedals

azure steeple
#

This is champion 1 voicings

gray sky
#

is 80s british like a marshall?

azure steeple
#

Yea so is the 70s

#

It isn’t quite the Marshall tone but it isn’t a bad tone

gray sky
#

dude that sounds sick

#

so i should get a used champion II and get $750 worth of used pedals?

#

or should i try and get a slightly better used amp?

azure steeple
#

On the champion 2 the modded British and British color are Marshall tones as well

#

Marshall esque

#

The plexi crunch will get u closer to true Marshall but it is still a pretty good tone through the amp

#

The 60s British is vox tones on the champion 1

gray sky
azure steeple
#

Maybe

#

Champion 2 on clean w a plexi crunch will sound pretty good champion 2 on 80s British w plexi crunch might be a lot

#

Now if u use it at a lower gain level it will probably sound pretty good

#

While on 80s British

gray sky
#

if i can get that amp used for like $300 should I spend the other $750 on pedals?

azure steeple
#

The plexi crunch was designed to take a clean amp and turn it into a Marshall if u add more to that it can get wonky but at the same time plexi crunch + my amps crunch channel and I have a pretty good kill em all tone

azure steeple
#

A good way to go about pedals is start with the amp

#

See what u need order afew

#

Then from there see what else u need

#

And slowly build the setup

gray sky
azure steeple
#

Bc u might end up w pedals u don’t need rn

gray sky
azure steeple
#

It takes more time that way but it allows u to dial in what u are going for more effectively

azure steeple
gray sky
#

that plexi sounds super nice

#

the blues driver plus my ibanez tube screamer should cover a lot of bases as well

azure steeple
#

Then from there distortion chorus and delay

gray sky
#

and a delay is essential for a lot of playing

azure steeple
#

Delay is built into the amp

#

What I am saying is see what the amp has and what it doesn’t and see what u need from there

#

I can tell u to start w a wah an eq a tuner and the blues driver bc the amp doesn’t have those

gray sky
#

are tuner pedals essential?

azure steeple
#

At any point in this when pedals start getting to noisy add the noise gate in

azure steeple
gray sky
#

i could get a used boss tu-2 for $25 lol

azure steeple
#

I mainly need my noise gate for the dual rectifier distortion I run

gray sky
#

i dont have the money to get all this stuff yet but im tryna figure out what i can reasonably get within my budget, and replace any boss pedals with better equivalents that may be cheaper

azure steeple
#

That’s what I am saying start with the amp an eq a bd a wha and a tuner

#

U don’t even need the tuner to start

gray sky
#

why do i need a wah though

gray sky
azure steeple
azure steeple
#

U don’t need one but it is really nice to have

gray sky
#

fair, i wanna get this stuff for gigging hopefully since I have amplitube for quiet playing

azure steeple
#

Champion has a headphone Jack on it so u could just use headphones with it

#

And save the money of the audio interface and stuff for digital if u don’t already have it

gray sky
#

I'd like to get that amp and hopefully 6-7 pedals, a pedal board, and patch cables

gray sky
#

considering i basically have a free $950

azure steeple
#

U don’t need expensive patch cables I have some Amazon basics ones and they work great and a cheap but a nice board usually comes with a carry bag for it

azure steeple
gray sky
#

i dont need a built in power supply cause that causes them to cost like $200

azure steeple
#

And size

#

Use this website to build ur end goal board layout then u can use that to determine size

#

I’d assume w the amount of pedals u have listed u will want a 24x15 or 27x15 board

gray sky
#

Ooh okay

#

should i buy one with future size in advance?

azure steeple
#

Yea I personally would

#

It will save u money in the long run w the inconvenience of taking up slightly more space rn

sterile wraith
#

i use this

#

much better imo

azure steeple
#

That also works

sterile wraith
gray sky
#

really?

sterile wraith
#

i spent around 550 on imne

#

yeah

#

and it does everything i want it to

gray sky
#

550?

sterile wraith
#

yup

#

this is mine

#

although i removed the ds1 copy

#

what i did was look for used pedals

#

used pedals are gold

#

that multistomp ms70cdr i got for around 90 bucks

azure steeple
# gray sky really?

I mean mine only cost like 500 it would only be 300 but I had to get a digitech drop

sterile wraith
#

Ill give u some stuff to get

#

for ur board

gray sky
#

oh do you mean like

#

overall

sterile wraith
#

get any sized board u want

#

and for

#

power supplies

#

i HIGHLY recmomend the mosky iso 10

#

its cheap and isolated

#

it has lasted me a very long time

#

i know ppl who have used it for a couple years

#

and its still kicking

#

either the mosky iso 10 or the vitoos iso 10

#

theyre basicaly the same

#

the patch cables were cheap too

#

theyre ammoon patch cables

#

no problems so far

#

they still work fine

#

good build quality

#

how much u wanna spend on pedals though

azure steeple
sterile wraith
#

tahts all up to u

azure steeple
sterile wraith
#

Alot of good budget brands are NUX and joyo

#

and mooer is pretty solid too

azure steeple
#

Barhenger also has some good stuff

sterile wraith
#

true

#

I highly recommend looking at used pedals

gray sky
gray sky
azure steeple
#

I was trying to tell him earlier not everything hss to be a boss pedal but he seems pretty locked in on boss pedals for some reason

sterile wraith
#

boss pedals are okay

#

theye expensive tho

#

the only boss pedal i have is an SD1

#

they dont really sound better than other pedals imo

gray sky
sterile wraith
#

those arent the shit imo

#

u can just use the multistomp

#

and get the flanger and the chorus

#

in one

gray sky
sterile wraith
#

for delay

#

joyo aquarius

#

ic

#

i mean if u can get used boss pedals go for it

#

but i find other pedal brands to be better than boss alot of the time

#

even the cheaper ones

gray sky
azure steeple
#

I could see the boss super chorus bc it is a Rolland jc chorus and also the bd but the delay eq and flanger there are other options

sterile wraith
#

u can get good chorus sounds now tho

#

that are on par w smth like the super chorus

#

on other pedals

#

and are cheaper

gray sky
azure steeple
#

True the super chorus is specifically the jc 120 sound tho so I could see that but u can get just as good for less

gray sky
azure steeple
#

Tc electronics has a similar sounding chorus + flanger pedal

gray sky
#

whats a good tuner, compressor, fuzz, tremolo?

azure steeple
#

Fuzz I like big muffs but once again fuzz is a person specific thing and there are abonch of big muffs for a tuner any tuner pedal u like will work

sterile wraith
#

korg pitchblack X mini

#

best tuner ever

#

if u want a good pedal that can do chorus, flanger, tremolo and a whole bunch of other stuff

#

get a zoom multistomp

#

its awesome

azure steeple
#

Harley Benton also has that one multi fx

sterile wraith
#

why

azure steeple
sterile wraith
#

multistomp does it almost exactly the same

#

and u save alot more money

gray sky
gray sky
sterile wraith
#

yeah multistomp has like 100 effects

sterile wraith
azure steeple
#

NuX MG-300 is another good multi fx

gray sky
sterile wraith
#

You can do that w the mulitstomp

#

it can sound like a boss pedal

azure steeple
#

U can do that with anything with knobs including ur guitar and multi fx

sterile wraith
#

yeah

gray sky
#

i dont want a multi fx pedals though

#

i wanna develop a solid board with different pedals rather than a single digital pedal

#

if i wanted to do that i could just use amplitube lol

sterile wraith
#

the multistomp is small and it can do everything a boss pedal can do at a less price

#

and u only use it for modulation

#

u can keep ur bd, tuner, reverb, delay

#

but for flanger, chorus and everything else

azure steeple
#

U could also just get alternatives to boss pedals for most of them

sterile wraith
#

multistomp is the way to go

sterile wraith
#

theyll sound exactly the same and cheaper

gray sky
#

okay so why even get anything when you can just spend $80 on digital software and play your computer into a pa system

sterile wraith
#

its not about that its just that instead of buying a chorus pedal and a flanger

#

which are pretty pricey

#

you can save space on ur board

#

and save money

#

by getting a multistomp

#

pedals are better than multi fx's in my opinion ebcause of the lack of menu diving and u can just adjust stuff easier

#

but u can get cheaper alternatives

#

to those pedals

#

and also the multistomp to save space

azure steeple
#

Hell u can spend 80$ and get something from tc electronics that is both chorus and flanger in 1 pedal but isn’t a multi stomp and is half the price of if u were to get both from boss

gray sky
gray sky
sterile wraith
#

but yk you could be spending less

#

save money

#

and get the exact same sound

gray sky
sterile wraith
#

if ur going for sound then u can go for an alternative to save money

#

but its all up to you

azure steeple
#

U don’t need the bf3 u can do with an alternative for that

#

That sounds the exact same

#

But is cheaper

gray sky
#

i dont need anything 😭

azure steeple
#

The chorus u can get the boss one if u want

gray sky
#

im gonna go cheap on certain pedals but others i do want boss specifically

#

So I could potentially get a Fender Champion II 100w, BOSS TU-2, GE-7, BD-2, BF-3, NS-2, CH-1, DD-3, MXR Phaser 90, and Plexi Crunch for about $1050

sterile wraith
#

what abt the pedalboard to put that on

gray sky
#

Eh like $50 some amazon one lol

#

This is mostly hypothetical as I won’t be able to get this stuff for a few weeks I think

sterile wraith
#

i recommend mosky iso 10 for power supply

#

or vitoos

gray sky
#

So should I knock off a pedal or two to make room for the power supply and pedal board money wise then?

sterile wraith
#

u usually put the power supply under the board

gray sky
#

No no I mean like

#

I’m tryna keep my total about $1050 tops

sterile wraith
#

for money yeah

#

id remove the NS2

#

or maybe change the tuner to smth else

gray sky
#

Could I replace it with a better noise gate that’s cheaper like the donner one he said?

sterile wraith
#

i recommend the Korg pitchblack x

gray sky
sterile wraith
#

ive never tried donner tho

sterile wraith
#

atleast for me

#

cuz i also use it to intonate my guitar

#

and adjust my stuff

#

also needs to be durable

gray sky
gray sky
sterile wraith
#

try to look for a korg pitchblack mini used

sterile wraith
#

like

#

adjust the saddles

#

etc

gray sky
#

Ah

sterile wraith
#

and on the korg pitchblack u can also change the HZ

gray sky
#

Can you not do that on the tu-2?

sterile wraith
#

naw

#

i dont thjink so

gray sky
#

Is reverb the best place to get used guitar pedals?

sterile wraith
gray sky
#

The marketplace around here sucks ASS

azure steeple
#

I’ve also seen some good stuff on eBay

sterile wraith
#

reverb is proly ur best bet then

gray sky
#

+?

sterile wraith
#

i accidentaly sent that

#

didnt mean to

gray sky
#

No worries

gray sky
#

@sterile wraith Doing a little digging and moving things around, Reverb: Mosky ISO 10, Plexi Crunch, TU-2, DD-3, CH-1, Phaser 90, BF-3, BD-2, GE-7 Guitar Center: Fender Champion II 100 Guitar Combo Amp Amazon: Ghost Fire SPL-04 Pedal Board, it should all cost about $1167 which would only be about $110 out of my pocket

#

i think that will be what I end up doing

#

when I can sell my extra guitar and case for around $950 hopefully

sterile wraith
#

I usr ghostfire aswell

gray sky
#

But i can probably find those later on when I need to gig lol

#

So I’m gonna keep that setup in mind for if/when I sell that guitar

azure steeple
#

A compressor isn’t needed especially w an eq but also noise gates are like 40$ new

gray sky
#

So I’m pretty set considering the champion II has a reverb

#

Fuck, all those pedals are basically a full fledged pedal board at that point aren’t they?

azure steeple
#

A pedal board can consist of anything over 2-3 pedals

gray sky
azure steeple
#

Yea

#

Although Most gigs u really only need reverb and sometimes a chorus or delay

#

Or if u play lead or want synth ish sounds a wah

gray sky
#

Getting metal, jazz, goth, rock, blues, etc yk?

#

Plexi Crunch for Metal

#

Delay, Blues Crunch for Jazz

#

Chorus, Delay, Flanger for Goth

#

My Ibanez Tube Screamer and Phaser for Rock

azure steeple
#

The plexi crunch does rock pretty well when u turn down the volume of ur guitar

#

Like it is volume sensitive just like an actual plexi

#

The volume of ur amp doesn’t get lower untill the volume is really low but it cleans up and becomes more of a rock sound when u roll off the volume on ur guitar

gray sky
#

Also what should I know about looper and fuzz pedals?

#

Fuzz seems like something i may need to test in person right?

azure steeple
