#

try playing the chords to the song you are asking about

#

try playing them one at a time, in time

#

if we briefly talk about "the elements of music".. we have melody, harmony and rhythm.

#

try working on conveying one chord from the harmony, RN

#

in a similar time feel

#

here, you are playing 'the right chord'.. the guitar is out of tune a bit

#

and you are not playing in time

#

try and focus on really any of the 3 elements of music, and get a few working together

loud sentinel
#

ah yes maybe the tuning was not really good
CGDAE im doing are in open chords is it still correct to continue with that?

ember wagon
#

its about music

#

melody

#

harmony

#

rhythm

loud sentinel
#

ok

ember wagon
#

RN, you are mostly conveying the rhtyhm, out of tune and out of time

#

i suggest

#

start more at the beginning

#

i understand you love this song. you will not learn to play this music the way you are working. you skipped over a lot of fundamentals to try and play this song you like. please consider learning to strum the guitar, in time.. then strum one chord in time. then move between 2 chords, in time.. then to play the chords of this song please consider my advice and play powerchords, RN, ok?! you will not get where you are trying to get grinding away at this song this way

loud sentinel
#

Strum one chord in time on random BPM or the same bpm of the song? is it important to learn on specific bpm or I need to work on various BPM to be able to play in rythm on every bpm

ember wagon
#

you dont have a concept of time

loud sentinel
#

yes

ember wagon
#

so

loud sentinel
#

i've learned few things but for me it doesnt make a sense

ember wagon
#

you dont need to form sentences with how to be in the same "BPM" etc

#

instead

#

start more at the beginning

#

strum

#

your guitar

#

with your hand

#

in time

#

what tempo?

#

any

#

just learn to do it in time

#

then

loud sentinel
#

ok

ember wagon
#

do that with one chord

#

in time

#

then, another chord, etc..

#

then between 2 chords

#

what tempo/BPM?

#

again

#

literally any

#

you skipped over learning to play in time

#

go back and learn that

ember wagon
loud sentinel
ember wagon
#

try this

#

close that

loud sentinel
#

im watching videos to get more informations

#

ok

ember wagon
#

@loud sentinel please do this

loud sentinel
#

yeah i will just strum one chord in time with a bpm in my ear

ember wagon
#

dont touch the guitar. please count and feel the beat ok? for the entire duration of the song

ember wagon
#

that isnt helping you

#

please stop

loud sentinel
#

im not supposed to play one chord in time ??

#

in time not equals a bpm??

#

please stop saying BPM!!

#

please press play here ^

#

count the beats

#

put the guitar down. dont touch the guitar

#

dont say "BPM"

#

dont set a metronome

#

press play ^^

#

and count " 1 2 3 4 " for the duration of this song

#

ok?!

ember wagon
ember wagon
#

please stop using the term BPM

#

please count ^

loud sentinel
#

im counting atm

#

im doing it one more time because i fucked up the count

#

I don't know if im in time when I count should I ear something that tell me im in time ?

#

like the bass for example ?

ember wagon
#

this is the lesson

#

learn to hear the beat

#

please listen to the music

#

the drums, etc..

#

kick, snare, kick, snare

loud sentinel
#

oh ok thanks

#

make more sense for me now

ember wagon
#

clap "the beat" saying nothing. for the entire track

#

@loud sentinel **only after you can clap and say "1 2 3 4" on the beats of this music, all the way thru, move on to this..

loud sentinel
#

ok im doing it atm ty

loud sentinel
#

I think i've done some progress

#

I was playing every chord one per one in time
And now im more fluid when I do CGDAE together Im still slow to play it in rythm but it will come im working on it

ember wagon
#

music

#

elements

#

melody

#

harmony

#

rhythm

#

you were kind of playing harmony

#

out of tune

#

and out of time

loud sentinel
#

yes before

#

but i've done lot of things during couple of hours

#

since our last discussion

#

im using the tap button on the mustang lt25 to tune my guitar, i was using a phone app before so it might be the problem

loud sentinel
#

A bit faster but not ready for 82 bpm I need more training for that I can play in rythm in various conditions now with that chords

ember wagon
#

you will fix this by going back and learning to strum. then learning to strum on one chord only.. then learning to move between only 2 chords.. you will not achieve the goal of playing that music the way you are practicing..

loud sentinel
#

i was doing strum on one chord before im not in rythm because im not too fast enough while changing between chords no?

#

struming on one chord, two chords, all chords are improved my speed, positionning also

ember wagon
#

" because im not too fast enough while changing between chords no?"

#

you have no concept of rhythm

#

thats why

#

please go back and learn how to play in time

#

on one chord

#

ok?

#

then between 2 chords

loud sentinel
#

but I've been doing it for hours since you told me

ember wagon
#

what you have done for weeks, is play this guitar part, out of time

#

you have trained, likely most all the time you have ever played, to play without regard for the element of music known as "rhythm"

#

its missing from your playing, and you wont get it by playing that guitar part wrong over and over

loud sentinel
#

I m fucking lost I think I will stop until I have the money to pay lesson

ember wagon
loud sentinel
#

1 chord every 2 beats, I didn't do that, I did 1 chord (the same one) 4 times thats maybe why its not good

#

I continue the video i was just saying

#

yes, in fact I fill in the moments of chords change because im slow

#

one positive thing is that I used to be unable to play the guitar and count the beats in my head or out loud now I can do it easily

#

ok thanks for your video I will apply the differents things you mentionned

ember wagon
#

"1 chord every 2 beats, I didn't do that," thats the problem

#

i have invited you to count along with that song

loud sentinel
#

Ok I will work on my right hand

ember wagon
#

instead

#

work on rhythm

#

melody

#

harmony

#

rhythm

#

you can think of these as the 3 basic elements of music

#

you have only trained harmony

loud sentinel
#

I will try to understand exactly what this words means because I think I don't understand cleary that

ember wagon
#

right?!

#

which is a problem

#

these are the basic elements of music

#

and understanding those, is important

loud sentinel
#

yes I will try to understand that with videos if its possible but in my language its very hard to find videos

#

I don't know why is that hard to find things Thats why I came here

loud sentinel
#

I've find some exercise complementary to the one you gave me to play with chords, I'm going to play string by string in upstrum and downstrum on a metronome

#

doing different combinations for at least 20mns per exercise. I already did a bit yesterday

ember wagon
#

ok

#

i advise this

#

look for ways to make music

#

in time

#

practice less

#

out of time

#

worry less about "the metronome"

#

try and find someone who plays music, on the guitar, in person, to help you simply learn to move your body, in time.. strumming some open chords

loud sentinel
ember wagon
#

you take steps

#

in time

#

in rhythm

#

you didnt learn that with a metronome

#

please read

#

im not saying never use a metronome

loud sentinel
#

ok So then I play on rythm

#

because we can't learn that its a birth gift or a life gift

ember wagon
#

im sharing how, all you have done for weeks if not months/years

#

is play

#

out of time

#

with a metronome clicking

loud sentinel
#

i just play without metronome when I do riff, chords

#

I play like that

ember wagon
#

please read

#

please learn to play in time

#

you have been practcing with a metrnome on

#

and that hasnt taught you to play in time

#

ok?!

#

the metronome is just clicking

#

and you ignore it

#

its not magical

loud sentinel
#

I can't understand so ok I will close my metronome and shit like that and just ignore rythm because I can't understand that

ember wagon
#

its you.. and you have to learn to move in time

#

like you do when you walk

ember wagon
#

having the metronome clicking isnt helping you

#

you have had that on for weeks, if not months or years

loud sentinel
#

I just dont understand one time you say something and seems to me that I understand and after I don't understand

ember wagon
#

and you play, with no regard for its tempo

loud sentinel
#

music is shit

ember wagon
#

you have only worked on harmony

#

not melody

#

or rhythm

loud sentinel
#

harmony = notes into chords that make harmony ?

ember wagon
#

find out

loud sentinel
#

yeah melody rythm nothing bro im bad I suck at guitar I don't understand anything 1y since I play guitar im more bad than ppl who learn from 2months come on

ember wagon
#

you dont suck at anything

#

you are just new and inexperienced

#

and thats fine

loud sentinel
#

but I don't understand what you're telling me about the rhythm, it's really driving me crazy.

ember wagon
#

right?!

#

please walk

loud sentinel
#

I want to understand but I don't

ember wagon
#

notice how your footsteps are Even

loud sentinel
#

yes but I never learned that so why don't I play in rhythm if rhythm is like walking ????

#

basically what you're saying is that I have to make equal right-hand movements, right?

ember wagon
loud sentinel
#

Should I play with my strap?

#

standing

#

its easier for things like that ?

#

or even to reproduce what you did in video

ember wagon
loud sentinel
#

So the metronome doesn't help me, if I understand correctly: it makes me dependent on something but doesn't teach me to be independent?

ember wagon
#

clap along with the entire track. with the beat

#

the full length of the song

#

then?!?

loud sentinel
#

I think I got it but im not sure 100% im just focusing on the sound and trying to focus on the song rythm with the bass and the drums

#

I was couting all the long

#

1234

#

with clapping on the table

ember wagon
#

please read above

#

and do

#

do it til you dont "think" you got it

#

but you actually have it

#

and can feel and count the beats

#

thats what you are missing

loud sentinel
#

how you know that are having it??

#

Ok I will do that until i don't have any doubt

ember wagon
#

again, along with the full length of the song.

#

i'll also plead, once, more, Please consider starting more at the beginning and work thru https://www.justinguitar.com/ ..there's a songs section.

loud sentinel
#

Ok thanks will work on that

loud sentinel
#

not easy to get the same rhythm as when I clap my hands or tap the table or count, on the guitar

#

but I think im progressing

#

I remember when i was not able to count in my head while playing guitar or doing something else

loud sentinel
#

still working on it 🤘

#

Dont know if I made any progress but I keep going

ember swallow
