I was using my boss katana head mk-ii but after being gone for a month its not being recognized, updated, installing it's driver, etc, so i figured i'd go the virtual route finally but i dont have a clue on how to set up these DAWs to where I could recreate my tone(s), and get my desktop audio to come through like before
If anyone has any sources I can use or can just bite the bullet and help me themselves let me knowww pls thx
#katana stopped working, help with REAPER/FL Studio?

turn off your head, open up device manager make sure the head is plugged in but still off, turn it on and see if it appears in the device manager. If not, its likely a problem with the firmware on the head itslef
it doesnt even show up in device manager
If all else has not worked, you can always try a factory reset.
yup tried that
i just ordered another usb b cable
off doordash
so maybe another hour or so and i'll try the new cable
all my usb ports work, tone studio redownloaded etc
but the katana driver wouldnt show up
usb wouldn't show a notification getting set up or anything etc
Unusual, might be the cable yeah
factory reset is so heartbreaking i had amazing tones mannnn
and i cant seem to get reaper or FL right
Yeahhh, I would've tried a new cable before factory reset, hence "if all else fails" haha
It's a last ditch effort
Hopefully you can rebuild them!
right </3
i think i know how i made the ones i usually use tbh
if the cable works though that means i can still fuck around on voicemeeter instead of
trying to get chains right and parametric eq
all that shit is 6th dimensional being technology to me
I'd say the best bet is keeping the signal chain on the Katana if you can help it, but how you divide the chain between different things is up to you
Everything you need is in there
na i mean uhh
like if i was just to use reaper or fl
putting whatever vst up in whatever order and etc
figuring out how to put the puzzle pieces together
on a totally virtual setup
Yeah, it's the same thing, might as well get 99% of it built on Katana
It can do that
i never messed with the chain on tone studio
Use Tone Studio for sure
i just left it as is and then twisted knobs and allat
i used tone studio for
delay reverb and pedal fx
the simple stuff
The only exception to this situation for a DAW I'd say, is if you're re-amping and processing the same DI
Can be useful
is re-amping the same as looping
But that's most ideal for VSTs like Archetypes
not looping wrong term
mb
yea i downloaded fortin nameless and
tse 50 some shit
pro q
In this case, you're just recording raw DI guitar to a track, and then processing it with a VST + any other effects in the channel's signal chain
i was gonna get izotope for the fuzz
So you can change the tone however you want, because it's the same recording
see i have no idea how signal chains work or anything idek what a DI is. direct input?
Yeah that's right
If you want to run through a DAW, may as well learn the ins and outs
But some people just use it for routing purposes only, that's valid too
i only used FL for the extra pizazz
Yeah, the extra pizzazz is in the purpose the DAW serves haha
my tone came from the mkii head and then i used voicemeeter to eq it
and then FL just to have it
made it a little crispier
and maximus on FL as my noise gate
for my mic
You can do all of that purely on the Katana, with Tone Studio
yeah i had the gate on katana and all that
That way your rig isn't dependent on Voicemeeter nor FL
It has a multi band EQ built in
voicemeeter was so good for my tone though mannnn
that multi band and the parametric eq on fl just suck for me
compared to how easily i made it sound how i wanted to using vm
needed improvement fs
I'm fairly confident you can pull it off with just the built-in EQ
but ykwim
for Tone Studio
yeaaa fs i just never looked into it
that was how i looked at it after the fact
like when it just didnt plug into my pc
so i was like ok let me just
find a new way entirely
to route my shit thru and figure out the desktop audio etc
Yeah it's a good temporary solution
get it all thru the mic etc and just have it totally virtual
Just mimic the same cuts on Tone Studio when you're back on USB
What you don't want to get in the habit of doing
EQ + effects on Voicemeeter, and also EQ + effects on FL
thing is i didnt learn or do anything bc i just suck at EQ
It's really up to you, but ideally you keep it all in one place if you wanna bring your rig around
you have a head for a reason, i'm assuming
ive just been spending the past 2 days trying to figure out how to get all my audio back thru my mic, different inputs etc
yea i had the head and a orange cab
sold the cab
just used the head for playing on here
tone studio >>>>>
i never even physically touch the amp i controlled everything on my pc for like 2 yrs straight
Let me know if the new cable works, we can go from there
new cable works
tones all gone tho </3
but i think i remade my thall tone
and im getting closer to my lead
but i had soooooo many its not even funnyyyy
Very niceee
You'll get the tones back i'm sure, you seem to know your way
