Hi all,
I play a ESP LTD M-1000 with fishman fluence moderns but I want to try out other pickups to see if I can get a better sound out of them. I play a lot of genres, from jazz to metal and need really good cleans as well as distortion. I'm thinking of going of an EMG 81TWX + EMG 89RX or Seymor Duncan alt metal blackouts or Blackouts HB. If any of you have tried these or have better suggestions, what would you reccomend?

EMG's are not really known for their clean sounds since they sound pretty compressed
if you want to go from jazz to metal i'd stick to the fishmans
or try out fishman fluence classics if you want paf voicing
sd dualitys are another choice ig

is it a bad compressed? are there any specific models that are less compressed
no emgs just have that feel due to how theyre made
also have i seen this post somewhere before
i like the sound of duncan retribution more than blackout
actually anything but blackout
i dont like mud-when-gain-knob-over-3-pickups
mmm i might try them at a store someday
any guitars come in stock with them?
odnt think so
extremely rare on oem guitars
if not flat out nonexistent
i stg why does every single guitar company and their mom only put duncan blackouts on their high end duncan pickup guitars
i see fishmans more than blackouts these days
yeah i’ve been looking and i haven’t seen any at any store in person or online
Don’t know abt you but I love the cleans of emgs, I think they also started out as being popular in jazz due to the compression and low noise
i have nothing against the sound of clean EMG's ... but as I said... they are not the first thought that come to mind when I think 'clean sound'
Definitely not the first but I still think abt em
Like even gilmour has signature emgs lol
but not the bog-standard 81 85 set
Anyways I don’t think you should change the fishmans for other stuff, at the end of the day your amp and cab are going to have way more of an impact on your tone
If the pickups have the output you’re looking for, and the feel and response that you enjoy you won’t really need something else
Fishmans are also really versatile depending on how they are wired
If I could I’d probably put them on all my guitars lol
Mainly because they can be split without losing volume and getting hiss
