https://youtu.be/HqLUzLOe_vE how can I get a guitar tone like this?

Check out the official guitar playthrough of "Lascivious Undivine" by Cryptopsy's guitarist Christian Donaldson. This track is off As Gomorrah Burns, which recently snagged the 2024 Juno Award for Best Metal Album.

Shoutout to Ibanez, EMG and Stringjoy for keeping us equipped to shred.

Huge thanks to Chris Kells for filming and editing this vi...

based off the vid first step is emgs

#

if you dont got those add a barely there compressor at start of sig chain

#

works kinda the same

jolly crescent
#

What about turning the gain up

clever solstice
#

dont

jolly crescent
#

Ok

clever solstice
#

for those tones less is more

#

3-5 gain on a high gain type amp is enough

#

that sounds like something close to a diezel or revv on ch3/4

#

wait r u running software or real amp

#

much easier on software

jolly crescent
#

I have a real amp but I use impulse responses

clever solstice
#

real amp into loadbox for IRs? interesting

jolly crescent
#

No space for a cab

clever solstice
#

so you have a head, that goes XLR out into what

jolly crescent
#

My interface

#

To my pc

#

And into reaper

clever solstice
#

and you have an IR loader in your reaper

#

?

jolly crescent
#

Yea

clever solstice
#

whats the amp

jolly crescent
#

Laney ironheart

clever solstice
#

thing is im kinda clueless on the cab and mic stuff for that

#

but try the basic v30 with sm57 IRs i guess

jolly crescent
#

Probably a mesa 412

#

Yeah

clever solstice
#

theres also a tones-oriented-like-that IR pack by AIRIS for free

#
#

i use that for similar direction tones

#

and since youre on reaper why not just go full software

#

NAM od+NAM (both free) with a default compressor/default parametric eq kinda enough

jolly crescent
#

Like the knobs are super sensitive

clever solstice
#

if anything i move the knobs 0.5 at most

jolly crescent
#

Alright

#

Thank you

clever solstice
#

this my NAM sig chain rn

#

the basic compressors and all

#

but all NAM eq knobs at default

#

and 2 param. eqs to actually do the shaping

jolly crescent
clever solstice
#

i prefer speaking in frequencies now because bass/mids/treble isnt that defined and varies by amp brand

jolly crescent
#

you right

clever solstice
#

but for the sharp tone its 1) right amp type 2) balanced mids and more treble

jolly crescent
#

what does balanced mids mean

clever solstice
#

here mids refer to 250-1k and treble being 1k-4k

clever solstice
jolly crescent
#

ohb ok

clever solstice
#

but translating this to amp is just "leave mids boost treble"

jolly crescent
#

thank you

#

🙏

clever solstice
#

#

also try individual frequencies boosting

#

like one specific frequency

#

i have a standalone 80hz boost to simulate the deep knob on diezel amps

#

works wonders sometimes

jolly crescent
#

what plugin do you use for the eq?

clever solstice
#

and fruity frequency splitter/fruity bass boost

#

there should be equivalent stuff in any DAW by default

dusty junco
#

Yeah for modern metal tone it’s pretty easy I’d say

#

You may want an overdrive in your signal chain

#

I like a little boost

#

Also try scooping the mids a tiny tiny bit

#

Like from 5 to 4 ish

#

But obviously EQ varies so take this with a pinch of salt
